Water Spots

Over the years, working in the Marines and then in a few different civilian organizations, one thing I have learned is the importance to detail. Being a large picture person, I realize that I must constantly remind myself of the importance of dotting all the “i”s and crossing all “t”s with precision.

Maybe one of the best examples I’ve heard is the story of the couple that went to a classy restaurant where they were given nice flatware wrapped in high quality napkins. Once the couple took the flatware in hand, they noticed water spots on the flatware.

They each took a few seconds and the nice napkins to rub out the water spots and soon the spotless eating implements were set neatly in place. They then sat and enjoyed the dinnner. When done, they left without mentioning the water spots at all. Then, of course, they never returned.

As for me, the water spots would have not mattered. On the other hand, I have seen folks that would have asked for “clean” silver. Then others would have simply walked out before ordering.

Regardless of anything else, it is an example in 2 ways. First, as in a previous post, it speaks of competition. It seems, in this case, the lacking in one detail causes the loss of repeat customers. There are any of dozens of such details that can cause a restaurant owner, or any such businessman grief.

Worse, the managers might not be aware, which brings me to my second point, the un-voiced complaint. Every owner, every manager should seek complaints vigorously. Otherwise, how will he become aware thar something needs correction?

If the couple in the little story complained, the restaurant might have still lost the customers, but it might allow the correction before the loss of others.

Yet, I look this way and that way, and I find one business after the other where the owners seem to continue to try to remain oblivious to any problems in their business. In the long run such businesses will surely suffer. They may continue but not strong as they could. Mostly, they will fall behind the competition.

It would seem to some that encouraging complaints from a customer is contrary to success. However, how can a person hone his ability to compete if he doesn’t see where honing is truly necessary.

You might consider the following. There are customers that will notify the management of of a messy restroom and those who won’t. On the other hand, there are businesses that will clean the restroom when notified and there are others that basically say, “So what.” There are those who simply don’t care about customer complaints, even when they are meant to be helpful.

The question, “Do you really want to lose customers over water spots?”

A BRIEF HEART FELT GOODBYE

Suzy-Q was half lab & half Sharpe. Don’t know how you pronounce that but she was all love. She loved walks, car rides and tolerated the cats, usually. Not so much when they tried to get her treats. When young, she ran like the wind. I was recently informed that she had a huge tumor pressing against her liver and backbone. It caused great pain and made it very difficult to stand, let alone walk. So, at fourteen we said our final goodbye to her as well as Misty.

Misty was apparently a birddog that thought she was a border collie. She too, had a huge tumor, but hers was on her shoulder. It made it difficult for her to walk and it was bleeding where the skin split. She too was in pain but I almost insisted she remain with us a while, but she was suffering. Besides, the vet said the tumor could split wide open without warning.

Both deserved more walks, more car rides and less suffering. So, a short time ago, we said our final goodbye. And of course, we already find life a little more difficult without them.

We are both too old to adopt more friends. If we die, no one would remain to take care of them. So, now we are cat people. That’s not totally bad. Unfortunately, they will outlive us. Hopefully, they will find new homes when that happens.

I don’t normally write a lot about pets. I hope 1 every 6 or 7 months is permissible.

Touting Their Greatness

Didn’t watch the Oscars

Don’t figure I missed anything

Seemed that they were just touting their greatness

Don’t see so much greatness

Haven’t seen a movie in a decade

Near as I can tell, haven’t missed a thing

Suspect I won’t miss a thing this year either

They sure know how to make a movie

Their problem seems to be coming up with a decent idea

Even with the 2 minute commercials, I’d rather watch old Kojak reruns than anything being turned out by Hollywood for the silver screen these days.

Competition is a Wonderful Thing

Let’s go back to the days of yore. Let’s imagine 3 cobblers set up shop. Which one will have the most success. To some degree, the one that is the fastest. However, the cobbler who makes a thousand shoes will never succeed unless he can sell his shoes. Therefore, his shoes need to be of good quality and the proper sizes. No one will buy shoes that are too small or will fall apart in a week.

If there were just 1 cobbler, we’d be stuck with whatever he wanted to make. The footware would be ugly, ill fitting and they wouldn’t last. The instant a second cobbler opens up shop, and then a 3rd and fourth, the quality would go up and the cost would go down.

It’s the way competition works and it’s wonderful. For well over 200 years, it has turned the USA to the greatest nation ever. There is no other country where people are willing to risk everything to get in. Moreover, as badly as the illegal aliens are treated, they hide in fear of being sent home.

Yet we prevent fair competition in one of the most important parts of our society. Of course private schools have a hard time competing with public schools. The government is picking up the tab for public schools.

Yet, there are thousands of parents willing to make great sacrifices to put their children in private schools. The why is quite simple. Public schools lack quality. They simply lack good teachers, good curriculum or good results.

The libs brag about public schools but, take away public funding and they would instantly go away. I know this is true because the libs themselves have said as much. They have said if monies are diverted to private schools, the public schools would go away. They actually live in fear of it.

Well, maybe they should go away. It is the way of competition. Only the better schools would survive. Only the best teachers would continue to teach. It is the American way. It is what made America great. Why in the world should we settle for a less than a mediocre education system when we are paying for the best?

Settling for mediocre schools is worse than Settling for mediocre shoes. And yet we stand by and watch our public school funds being poured down the proverbial drain…without results.

Self-destructive

It would seem no one else need destroy our country. Apparently, our tendency is to destroy ourselves. After years and years of fighting to get the advertising of tobacco off TV and radio, we now allow the advertising of Marijuana products on TV on prime time.

This is, of course besides all the drugs and poison we permit across our border. This, of course besides the criminals and terrorists we permit daily in among us with little or no restrictions.

Just guess we want to destroy all that our forefathers built. Once we succeed, we will just be a brief story in history that the future children just might study in schools. Then again, future historians just might cover up the history so well that any thought of by the people will totally cease.

It would seem to be the goal of the dems.

The Work is Great (if you can get it)

I just became aware of one way that Joe made his fortune. He provided 12 lectures at a college for which he received 900 grand. There are but 3 questions that come to mind.

  1. what kind of lecture might possibly be worth that kind of money.
  2. can anyone produce the cliff notes on the lecture. Was it anything other than rambling jiberish.
  3. I would like to known if there is so much as one person who is willing to admit to attending the lecture.
  4. oh one more. Can anyone point out so much as one thing worthwhile they learned from his lecture, that is besides how dumb the man is.

It is but one example of lefthanded bribery, not only for Joe but for politicians in general, on both sides of the isle. You want to know who…look at those who earn beyond their salary.

Daily Exercise

Over the years I’ve come to the conclusion that a brisk daily walk of 2 to 3 miles is a very good form of exercise. The muscles in the legs are some of the largest in the body and exercising them helps in circulation. Not only does this help to distribute the nutrition but it also helps in the collection of waste.

Though I am not a doctor, I’ve confirmed my thoughts with a number of MDs. I only wish I found this out many years earlier. I believe I would have never reached 280 lbs. More importantly, I likely would have never had some of my other heath probems, such as diabetes.

However, walking 3 miles a day does require some time. At 4 miles an hour, we are talking 45 minutes. Some people like to listen to music or an audio book. I guess a person could, oddly use the time for writing; or more accurately, dictate books, papers or maybe reports. I know of folks that talk almost 500 words a minute. After a month or two, an author could almost dictate “War and Peace. ” Well, maybe 1/2 of it.

On the other hand, you just might use it for prayer time. It might give a new meaning to walking with God. Just maybe God will like it too. I can’t see it hurting anything. By the way, you just might learn to enjoy your time with God.

On the other hand, some just might question your sanity, especially should you explain.

As an aside, might I suggest you non believers try this, that is if you’re willing to chance it.

Who Do You Trust?

It’s an interesting question, one you should ask of yourself as well as others. I must admit the question was prompted by an old TV show where the question was the title. During the show the contestants were asked if if they trusted themselves or their spouse to answer a question.

However, we must admit that we make decisions of of trust, not only daily, but by the minute. We trust the others to follow the rules of the road. We trust those who work in stores restaurants, mechanics and many other merchants. Most of us take it for granted that when we turn that key in the ignition, the car will start. (Or we become angry) We flip the light switch in a room and, usually the room is lit.

I have noted that, according to trust, people can be divided into at least 3 categories. As in the national motto, some of us trust God. We are called Christians. Some trust themselves and not God. I call them libertarians… conservatives without morals. Then, there are the liberals. Their motto is, in government we trust. In general, they lie, cheat, and steal all for themselves and the advancements of government control. In many cases they don’t even know it. But if they have no trust in God or themselves, who do they trust.

They rely on government for medicine, welfare and their next meal. If they don’t get substance from God or their own hands, from whom will they get it? The almighty government will provide but only if the almighty government is almighty. On the other hand, Christians and libertarians don’t want want to rely so much on government. So they really prefer keeping government size down.

I have an idea. Let’s put all the liberals in 25 states…their choice. Then we stand back and watch to see how long it takes for them to destroy those states. When everyone has their trust in their government, it will take very little time for their government to fail. I suppose some states will last longer than others. Some may actually figure things out and stop putting ultimate control in the hands of fallible humans.

Where Are the Apologies?

They now admit the China virus started in the the labs. They now admit that masks provide little to no protection. It’s been established that schools that stayed open were better than schools that were closed. I am sure that they will eventually have to admit that hydroxychloroquine actually works as a preventive to the China virus. While I sit here coughing, I wish I could have acquired a few thousand tabs of it before it struck here in Mississippi. Maybe there are a few who lost loved ones who wish they could have gotten there share too.

Yet, where are the apologies. Where are the apologies to these who were shamed, even though everyone knows they were right. Where are the apologies to those who suffered. Where are the apologies to those who lost friends and relatives.

The dems will not apologize. They dare not admit to their wrong doings. They know it would mean election losses. To the dems, nothing is more important than the elections. Ultimately, it is about control.

That is why you will never hear any kind of an apology, that is unless mandated by a court. Now that is something I would like to see. I would really like to live long enough to see. Unfortunately, I don’t think the Lord will let me live that long.

By the way, time to put Fauci in prison. He helped develop the virus. Don’t expect any apology from him either.
