Can-openers

You might find this strange but there was a day a person could go to the store and buy a can-opener that could actually open cans. Seems like these days, they don’t. Some bend out of shape and some simply won’t cut; the cans that is.

Electric can openers work for a while, and then they don’t. Besides, why should I buy an electric can-opener when I can buy a hand powered one that should work? Oddly, the best manual can-opener I ever used were the ones that came with the C-rations. I tried to hold onto the things. They are worth their weight in gold, well, maybe silver. Alas, the last of the ones I had disappeared. I think someone stole them.

I don’t know how true it might be, but I once heard the US sent canned food to some starving country and neglected to include can-openers. I simply don’t know how true it is, but I do find it very believable. After all, it is the kind of way our government does things.

The thing is; if they sent any of our modern can-openers, it would be about the same. The people would still starve trying to get into the cans. Either way, that would have to be awful frustrating. Plenty of food to eat but no way to get to it. In a way, I can identify with them every time I try to open a can of green beans.

I tried ordering the C-ration openers on a website. They worked about as well as the modern mechanical ones. So now, unless the can comes with a pull tab, I generally have to take my chance with a knife. Believe it or not, I’ve gotten pretty good at it. To get the green beans out, all I need is a hole big enough to drain them from the can.

Incidentally. I would not suggest trying my method. It’s not just difficult. It’s downright risky. Then again, I guess it is a little dependent on how desperate you are for green beans, or sourcrout for that matter.

The real question is, are the cans getting more difficult to open or are the can-openers lower quality? I have just a suspicion it might be both. I sure wished I could find a real C-ration opener so I can test it on the modern cans. I suppose it would work the other way around. I could try a modern opener on an old can if someone has a couple of them lying around.

Then again, it might not be so important. My wife is all the time telling me I’m all the time thinking on things that don’t really matter. Still, I sure would like to be able to get green beans without a knife.

Do you think those company CEOs ever check those can-openers before putting them on the market?

WHERE IS RAY EPPS???

I have seen it dozens of times; a man waving people into the Capitol building on Jan 6 and encouraging them to enter. The man’s name has been determined to be Ray Epps. At this point, it seems no one knows a thing about him. He does not seem to be connected to the FBI or any other federal organization.

I would hope one of the first things the Republicans do when they take control of the House is to summon Ray Epps. I personally would like to know:

A. Who signs his paycheck

B. Who told him to encourage people to enter the Capitol

C. How it is he avoided being charged with a crime when people just in the area are languishing in jail without charges right now, nearly a year after the event.

Do you suppose that the dems have paid for the man to disappear onto the French Riviera for the rest of his life. On the other hand, someone might pull the Clinton method and have the man commit suicide. He might be told, “Commit suicide or lose all your relatives and friends.” Such things have been done before and I would not put the dems above such a thing. After all, to them, there is nothing more important than the next election and the power it will give them. It is quite possible that Ray Epps just might know too much for him to continue to live. I wonder if we are going to find him conveniently dead in some park or federal prison. And, of course, it will be declared suicide, absolutely.

Perhaps Nixon’s Greatest Mistake

I guess there are those who call out mistakes made by Richard Nixon. However, I suspect his biggest mistake was after the election in which Kennedy was declared the winner. He chose not to contest the votes in and near Chicago.

Most historians will quickly agree that had he contested the votes, he may very well have won the election. Yet he chose not to contest them because he was afraid of the national division it might cause. What he apparently overlooked was that it sent a signal to the democrats. He set the “no contest” pattern.

He basically implied that Republicans would not contest elections of future elections even when the dems cheat. Hence, every election since, the democrats have cheated, and might I say, very effectively? Since that election, there have been many dead voting. People in nursing homes voted, oddly entirely for dems, even when the voter had not even seen a ballot.

In every election since, the dems come up with new methods of putting their thumbs on the election scale. And by the way, whoa to anyone suggesting that there was any kind of voter fraud.

By the way, does not really matter. Laws were broken and people actually admit to it. The problem is that no one in the position to prosecute wants to. Anyone that wants to prosecute can’t. The dems basically control the Justice Department and many of the courts. Even more, the DC courts are critical and completely controlled by the dems. (Over 90% dems in the District of Columbia. No way to convict a dem. No way to defend a Republican.)

Few of us at the time knew, or could even imagine, the damage that was done by that one magnanimous decision made unselfishly by Richard Nixon. It just shows to go, one cannot play nice when it comes to the dems. They have no interest in doing things right. They have no interest in the good of the country or the Constitution. Their only interest is socialism and the power it will provide them.

As a sidenote, I would point out that socialism and the Constitution are mutually exclusive. They cannot co-exist. Hence, for the dems, to win, they must tear down the Constitution and the American way of life. Hence their efforts are to destroy what Americans have spent over two centuries building.

My aside: Fauci is retiring. Maybe we can arrange to put him in a prison cell for the next thousand years.

Perspective

As i switched from one channel to another, I landed briefly on a channel showing men in search of gold in the country of Australia. Partially through a narator they fussed because it rained. They said that they couldn’t search for gold while the dirt was wet.

I shook my head at the irony. Without the water brought by the rain, they’d be hard pressed to search for gold. It is with water that they separate the gold from the dirt.

Don’t get me wrong. Gold is used for more than looks. The fact that it resists corrosion makes it very useful in many industries.

However, let’s put it in proper perspective. If God removed all gold from this earth, it would cause problems, some which would be serious. On the other hand, if God were to withhold His rains for a month, it would start causing serious problems.

If the rains ceased for a year, people would die by the millions. If it stopped raining for a decade, the only life left on the planet would be a few doomsday preppers, maybe. And, by the way, they’d not have much to look forward to.

As a side note, there would be a big push on desalination plants. Few, if any would have any interest in that yellow metal. Water is what men would seek. It would not be to look at but to survive.

I know those gold hunters make their living finding gold; but I would hope they will remember to keep their perspectives.

Ad Fees

Every phone call made for advertising purposes should have a fee paid to the receiving person for use of their phone.

A. It would decrease the ad calls.

B. People would get their phones paid for by the advertisers. It’s only right if they insist on using our phones for advertising, like newspapers, like radio, like TV, and like billboards. Why should we have foot the cost of their ads?

For years we’ve been giving them free advertising. It’s about time they start paying as the rest. Not only is it the right thing to do, but it just might help to cut down on one of the biggest bothers since the door-to-door salesman.

My Little Wish

I have seen, perhaps dozens of movies based, shall I say loosely on the Bible. Some were by Hollywood producers, some by so-called Christian organizations.

The one thing I can honestly say about every one of them is that they are not accurate. It is so disappointing. It is so frustrating. I don’t know why but they never get it right.

Then, those who see the movies and don’t read the Bible believe the lies. Sometimes these lies stand in the way of salvation. Yet, those who make those movies pride themselves on what they and those who help them promote.

So it is that my one little wish is that someone, someday actually gets one of the movies right.

Until then, might I suggest you read the Bible. Until then, don’t put much faith on movies getting it right. Salvation is not something to trust to Hollywood. Indeed, the vast numbers of those in Hollywood pride themselves in their unbelief. Many of them mock the book on which the movies are based.

If You Have to Ask….

There is a saying, “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” I guess in the case of continuous glucose monitors it’s true.

I just saw one of the ads for the umpteenth time and, because I’m diabetic, I decided to check on their price. After 20 minutes of looking on the web, I’ve come to the conclusion that they would just as soon I don’t know the price.

They tell you the advantages and how well they work, not what they cost. Apparently, that’s a secret.

So. I guess I can’t afford it if I need to ask. No sense checking into it any more. Don’t guess I need it anyway.

It just makes me wonder, why the big secret.

It Started With Love

God made man on the sixth day, only after he built the perfect place for him to live. Then He gave it all to man as his dominion. Adam and Eve walked among all the animals totally without fear. To me, that was God’s first expression of love.

Even before God spoke it all into existance, He knew Adam would eat the fruit. Even more, he knew every sin that all men would ever commit. Then, even then God the Father decided to give his Son for us. Jesus the Son decided he would die on the cross for us. That, indeed was, as far as I know was his first act of love toward us. It was before the creation.

Then to, it was all inclusive. He did not carve out any exceptions. No one was excluded. No sin was excluded. He did not say he would exclude murderers, lawyers or even politicians. It means that salvation is available to the poorest and the richest, although the riches can make it difficult difficult to receive that salvation. It is available to the weak as well as the strong, though the pride of the strong might blind him to his need.

Though the salvation is just as available to geniuses as the mentally challenged, some of those geniuses are literally too smart for their own good.

Because of His love, He is merciful. Without the mercy, there would be no forgiveness. Without forgiveness, there would be no salvation. All of us would get exactly what we have coming to us. It’s called justice.

God absolutely requires justice. That means, for every sin, large or miniscule, someone must pay the price.

That is the reason for the cross. Jesus, because of his love, paid the price for all sin. By the way, he had no help. There is simply no way we could have helped, no matter our effort, no matter any power or fortune we might have.

To succeed, Jesus and Jesus alone has that power, that ability.

Finally, it’s His power, His authority. If we don’t believe that, then we lack faith. When anyone claims that he is providing his own salvation in part or in full, he is attempting displaying a lack of faith in Jesus.

It is the only condition of salvation: complete faith in Jesus. It is more than fair. He is the one who paid the price for our sins. It is certainly right that He and he alone receive all the credit and all the glory without exception. We ought not be allowed to steal any of it.

When we do accept His salvation, why shouldn’t we know we are saved. Why should we doubt his promise or his ability? If we are saved why can’t we declare it. It is not our ability we brag on but rather the salvation that Jesus has provided.

And, to be sure, He has provided that salvation because of his love and mercy toward us, toward me and nothing else. His salvation was paid for me. I know that because when he said whosoever in John 3:16, He did not make me an exception.

I think, actually I know, if you cannot say you’re saved, you just might want to place yourself in the hands of Jesus as your only savior. That way you’ll be included in the whosoever of John 3:16.
