ABC 24 This Week

I watched the above show on channel 24, Memphis. The subject of discussion for the the first 15 minutes was the raising of property taxes suggested by the mayor.

First, let me say as I have before, I like the idea. Every time the Memphis city government does something stupid, the value of real estate in Desoto County increases. May I make this short reminder that Desoto County is growing leaps and bounds while Memphis population is shrinking. I might add that Memphis has been losing people to surrounding area almost immediately after the dems established firm control of the city forcing their liberal concepts upon the cityresidents.

Going back to the TV show, all three guests on the show agreed with the mayor. That says, no shouts something about the show. Considering the rebellion of the tax payers in Memphis, I would have to say that it was a very poor representation of the city population.

The Soviets had a word for that kind of journalism. Pravda, Ironically, it is the Russian word for truth. I think maybe the show spoke everything but the truth.

It is the misfortune of Memphis, the benefits for me and my neighbors, and all the surrounding communities.

The Solid South

When we moved into Mississippi we moved into the Solid South and we knew it. It was a time that politicians around here did not admit to being Republican. And, by the way, there were very few Republicans, if they admitted it or not.

Virtually, almost literally, all public officials were Democrats. I would like to take credit for the rapid change but I think it was more a matter of timing.

In a matter of just a few years, it seemed the Solid South went from solid Democrat to solid Republican. One thing I found odd about that is that the Democrats that were holding office became the Republicans holding office. The terms changed but the people remained the same.

It caused me concerns but I simply did not know what to make of it. The same people I was opposing became the politicians for which I was voting. I’m not sure how that happened, to this day.

So I am now voting for people who were really Republicans that were in disguise or I am now voting for Democrats who are now in disguise.

I think a lot of that was going on all over the country. It was an enormous upheaval. The end of it all is that we now have a bunch of Democrats who are pretending to be Republicans. They simply did not want to give up the power base they built so they donned the sheepskin and pretended to be what they aren’t.

So it is we have what appears to be a solid Republican south, but in truth, it just ain’t that solid. There are many red states with representatives voting with the blue states. That’s just not working out well at all.

Who Is Smart Enough?

The original idea behind the electoral college is that the vast populace of the country is not smart enough to directly vote for a president.

When I first learned this, I was in the 8th grade. Hooey, I thought. That makes not one bit of sense. My first thought was that we should do away with it and vote for the president direct.

I know better now. Only, the word smart is the wrong one. Better to use the term informed intelligence. Think about it. Who really knows the qualifications of those seeking the office. I used to think I do, but I don’t really.

We select the leader of our country by listening to a few speeches, reading a few newspapers and listening to a few news stories.

The speeches are written by people we never see. The news is written by biased reporters who frequently leave important points out. The same can be said about TV and radio but worse in that there is so little of it. The average half hour news program has less than 5 to 10 minutes of hard news. Maybe, it’s two or three minutes on the candidates.

Worse, most people don’t watch that little bit. It would appear many of the voters made their choice based on social media. Most of social media is full of false information.

Those who wrote the Constitution had it right. Most of us lack the knowledge. Many lack the desire to gain the knowledge. We are too busy living to be bothered by it. Yet, some of us, based on what little we know go to the polls and make one of the most important decisions we will make for 4 years. We will not only determine our own future, but also the future of of grandchildren. Invariably we will vote for people who will make decisions based on tomorrow’s news stories.

Better, we go back to the original electoral college. We vote for good honest people who can take the time to learn who the candidates are. They understand just what is really at stake. What they don’t know they take the time to learn.

Then the bunch of them meet for a week or two and decide on a president.

I have put this idea forward many times before and it seldom is received with agreement. Yet, when I ask the simple question, who is smart enough to select a president, I seldom receive an answer, leastways not a smart one.

[Let’s Add a Title] (Oops) Our Castles, Our Castles, Our Homes

Just finished watching the news, which was followed by an infomercial of hometitlelock.com. I would suspect that at any time of the day or night, I can find a station that is or soon will be advertising it or something similar.

I have no idea how much that advertising costs, but it has to be a bunch.

Do you know what that tells me? That tells me that protecting homes is a very profitable business. Otherwise, there is no way they could afford all that advertising.

So, I think we can safely say, thieves stealing homes are not the only ones who make their fortunes from the thievery. It would seem, the aforementioned corporation, the advertising companies as well as the radio and TV stations are likely making their bundles of wealth from it too.

We can stop all this, you know. We can change the laws and we can change the priorities of law enforcement. We need laws that make it much more difficult. That alone would cause a drop in stolen homes. However, if we zero in on and throw as many house stealers as we can and put the in prison, as well, the aforementioned corporation will no longer be able to afford all the advertising.

My personal opinion is, that is a good thing, though some will need to go looking for other means of earning money, maybe something of more purpose.

Just Finished Mowing the Front Yard

I know. You could care less. However, have you not heard the saying, Laziness is the mother of invention? I know. Not accurate. Same thing only different.

I look at these kids with these R/C cars running them up and down the street at breakneck speeds while the kid operating the $40 toy car stands in one place.

I look at it and I shake my head. Why can’t I do that with my lawn mower? I mean, all that is missing is the R/C, right. Then I can sit under my porch on an elevated seat in the shade. Without even working up a small sweat, I can watch as my modern day mower makes short work of shortening my grass.

My first consideration is my doctor. He wants to make sure I get some good exercise once a week. [Now that is almost an oxymoron. How can exercise be good?]

On the other hand, it might be a conspiracy of the lawyers. It’s something of a disorganized thing. The word might already be spread that the lawyers will all be ready to jump on that lawsuit after the first accident. It ought to be worth a few thousand, even if the manufacturer is not at fault. I mean, the manufacturer will need a well-paid lawyer to explain why the machine is not at fault whilst the other is paid big bucks to prove it is.

So, while laziness might encourage invention, it provides no competition to the discouragement of the legal system.

It does cause me a little curiosity of how much more advanced civilization would be without the legal anchor we must drag behind us.

Do you suppose I could mount my own R/C on a mower. Sitting on my porch in the shade with a Diet Coke while the mower gets the exercise my doctor insist I have would be good, right?

Now I ask you, who else do you know who can write a humorous, interesting post about mowing lawns? This while arguing that our society has too many laws and lawyers.

What Do You Want to Believe?

I am something of an observer. Over the past few years it has occurred to me, maybe most people believe what they want to believe, regardless.

In spite of any proof otherwise, they hold steadfast to that which suits him or her. I find it utterly amazing the hopeless things that folks will hang onto, simply because they want to.

It does help to understand why the theory of evolution caught on, even though not one person has ever come up with one fact to back it up, only speculations, suppositions and more theory.

I am convinced Darwin, himself, tried to prove that which he knew to be true wasn’t, even to the day he died. It was as if, if he could prove evolution, it would disprove God and the Bible.

He never proved evolution. It is still only a theory, but one presented everywhere as fact. I suspect as Darwin’s death grew near, he feared he was going to be facing real judgment from God.

Even so, he never had any idea how he had set the world upside down. And now, very much of the world believes his theory, not because of any proof but because it is what the world wants to believe.

For if evolution is true, then there is no God, there is no 10 Commandments, and mankind is just another animal. It becomes a world where the laws are all from man and murder is the same as killing any other animal.

Indeed, the scopes monkey trial was the next step in proving we all came from the apes. And they have tossed God out of our classrooms, not because of what is believed, but because of what they want to believe.

It does make evolution something to believe in. That is to say, because there is no proof, it’s not science but religion.

Carbine Williams

Look him up on the internet. David Marshall Williams, while incarcerated in a prison in North Carolina, designed, built and tested a rifle. He built it in the prison machine shop, while being carefully watched, of course. To be sure, he was a convicted killer.

It is very historic. The rifle went on to be one of our most used weapons in WWII, Korean War and at the beginning of Vietnam.

Now. Just what makes anyone think that outlawing ghost guns will have any affect whatsoever? Williams had very little training in guns. What would make anyone think that ghost guns can be stopped when there are thousands willing and able trained gunsmiths to make guns in their basements. Moreover, there are more than a few willing to pay a pretty penny to buy them too.

Also, with the open border, the gunsmith can make his guns somewhere outside American jurisdiction. Our laws will not be able to touch them in Cuba. Then they can just haul them over the border, individually or by the gross.

Here is one more point. Not one of them would have a serial number. Not one would be traceable.

I saw a sign once. “Littering prevented by law.” Sorry. Littering can be discouraged by law, but it can’t prevent it. I just saw the one sign. I guess most of us are more realistic.

Go ahead. Make your laws outlawing ghost guns. You won’t prevent them. It is too easy to build them and there will always be those wanting to buy them. Those who think they will put a stop to them are foolish.

By the way, I am not suggesting anything new. I am not that intelligent. I am sure many have thought of this long ago. They have been building guns for hundreds of years. In some cases, they were built by blacksmiths on a forge with not much more than a hammer. You’re not going to stop a trained machinist with a well equipped machine shop.

Root of Evil

What is it that can cause a person to steal from friends and relatives. What is it that can drive us to risk the well being of ourselves, our friends, our community and our nation.

Some have indeed abandoned oath of office and the good of constituents. It has caused judges and upstanding citizens disgrace and ruin.

I am sure, by now, most of you have figured it out. It is as Jesus said. The root of all evil is the love of money.

Indeed, when a man loves money more than than his brothers, then his brothers are not safe from him. When a president loves money more than his country, you get someone who looks a lot like Old Joe.

When a husband loves money more than his wife and family, he loses that which he has in casinos because of sicknessof greed. Moreover, he will steal so as to lose even more.

The love of money will drive a soldier or sailor to betray his country and the nation that loves money more than God will fall suddenly. For the one citizen will not trust the other.

Money causes man to do ugly things such as selling his fellow man into slavery and the woman into evil so as to increase his wealth. t will destroy the guilty man’s conscience so he knows no guilt.

In a strange ugly way, there are those evil men who seek money by distortion of God’s word, by promising wealth to those who will only have faith.

Lest We Forget

Every time I turn on the news, it seems the first words are something to the effect, First president to stand trial….

May I remind one and all, Clinton admitted to felonies while still in office. Quite possibly, the only reason he was not removed from office was a number of hard-headed dems who did not want to admit the truth.

Moreover, the FBI director effectively told the whole world that Mrs. Clinton committed crimes for which she should have been permanently placed behind bars. Then she was let go. She had 2 things going for her, her name and her political party.

Then there is the granddad of them all, literally. Old Joe is escaping prosecution cause he’s too senile to stand trial. This is on record from the special prosecutor, though he put it a little more politely.

I-880 Closed

Is it because of a wayward ship as the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Nope. By the way, Old Joe promised to do all possible to open that one. Haven’t heard anything from Old Joe about I-880.

When I heard about the closing of I-880, I sat and considered just why Old Joe doesn’t want to help his compadre, the gov of California.

Then I figured it out after some additional info. You see, it wasn’t a massive accident that closed The Golden Gate Bridge but a bunch of pro Palestinian demonstrators. It is not only okay for that, but something to be encouraged.

On the other hand, if they were a bunch of pro Trump demonstrators, the bridge would be clear in 5 minutes.

By the way, Trump demonstrators would not do such a thing. It is illegal. It is against the law. Besides, it is inconsiderate. The demonstrators don’t care. Old Joe doesn’t care. The dems don’t care.
