Division Among Republicans

Sad to say, there is division among the Republicans.  As such, very little of what they all hold in common gets passed, epically with Old Joe in the presidency and the dems having a small margin in the Senate.

However, what I’d really like to zero in on are the Republicans in the house right now.  As near as I can tell, there are at least 3 major factions.  The majority of them are conservatives.  Right now, they hold the majority of the votes, which angers what Rush Limbaugh used to call the country club group.  These are what are called rinos, or republican in name only.  Regan was certainly one of the conservatives.  He went from being a conservative Democrat to a conservative Republican.  (no more conservatives among the dems)The first Bush had the opportunity to learn at Regan’s feet but he was not a very good student.  As soon as the going got tough, he abandoned what he learned and he abandoned those who voted for him, which is why he lost the next election.

The next factor is the libertarians.  I like to call them Republicans without morals, R.W.Ms.  While they have very conservative ideas concerning finances, likely more than most, they don’t seem to have any morals.  Many have no problems with legalizing drugs, homosexuality, and many other moral things.  You might have a difficult time finding a Christian amongst them.

And so it is that there are fights within the party, some very bitter.  The only suggestion I have is to take what we can.  Most Republicans are financial conservatives.  Let’s concentrate on that.  That way we can fortify ourselves on that.

Moreover, there are many things that even the libertarians can agree on.  Let’s make sure that parents are notified before abortions.  Let’s make sure all women have full informed consent before an abortion.  That alone will cut down the number of the abortions.  Moreover, it is the right thing to do.

Let’s make sure that every dollar is spent wisely.  I would suggest every dime but we have gone well beyond that.  When people do spend recklessly, they need to be relieved of their position and possibly prosecuted.

Let’s permit the executive branch to hold back spending if it is not needed.  Some do not know it, but the President is required by law to spend every dollar that is allocated, even if not needed.  There are not many successful businesses run like that.

We need a total makeover of federal law enforcement.  One place we can start is by de-allocating monies to the FBI and CIA, particularly in the higher ranks.  They need to be trimmed down and their salaries need to be reduced.  They have become top heavy.  (Top heavy is another term for unsuccessful.)  Though the rino group might have problems with that, most of the others will likely go along with that.

I am a pro-military person.  I was in the Marines and I believe in keeping the armed forces strong.  However, spending blindly only destroys the strength of the services.  I have seen the waste from the inside.  I have seen $25 dollar fuses that can be bought at the hardware store for 39 cents.

Being a marine, I do understand mil-spec requirements.  However, just because something meets mil-spec, that is not a reason to pay $24 more.  We can make our armed services stronger.  However, we cannot do it by throwing money at it.  All that does is make the Defense Department fat.

We need to put much more of the power in the hands of state and local governments.  Money is power and that is the way the federal government acquires power…by spending our money.  Many of the departments, especially education can be drastically reduced or even done away with.  However, that department has become like a leech.  It just hangs on and will not let go.  The country club group kind of likes it so we are sort of stuck with it.  Nonetheless, we can sort-of trim it out of existence.

One way we will look back on these days.  We might look back on it glad that we did something about it; or we might look back wishing we had.

One last note, the feds not only spends a lot of money loosely, but they also spend money in places they shouldn’t, as an example sex-ed for kindergartners and gender changes for 3rd graders. Surely all republicans and a even a few dems can agree on that.

A Second Thought

My original thought was that President Trump should try to have his trials moved. Let’s face it. NY, NY is not a friendly town for him anymore. He used to be popular there. Now, when he is tried there, the chances are pretty good that he would be convicted regardless of how weak the case is against him. I would prefer to have the trial moved up to northern New York where he would stand a better chance of winning.

Then of course, almost any republican would be convicted in DC. The city approaches 100 % democrat. Worse, most are very strong democrat.

However, consider this. What if he were tried in NY, NY and found not guilty. What if her were tried in DC and found not guilty. WOW! Would the dems be red faced then. I mean, it would mean he really was not guilty. It would mean the dems really don’t have any proof of any guilt.

It is sort of the way things went while he was still in office. The dems kept saying that they had proof positive. When it came down to time to show the proof, they had none. In spite of four years of some of the most intensive investigations, they had nothing. Even their accusations fell apart in the end.

I suspect, out of all the things President Trump did that the dems were really angry with, the appointments to the Supreme Court were the one thing that really angered them the most. He caused the fall of their great god of abortion. For that, they decided that he must fry. The decided that it was very important that he be made an example.

If they can’t prove him guilty of anything, then they will have failed miserably, especially if they fail with the home team advantage. They will have the judges. They will have the jury. The one thing they really lack is a case.

However, even if they do manage a conviction, it won’t hold up. You and I both know that. The Supreme Court does not like kangaroo courts. That is exactly what the trial in NY, NY will be as well as the one in DC. They know it. The only reason they try is that they are desperately desperate. Once they lose, they will be in a really awkward situation.

The Right Thing

I heard this from a preacher one day on the radio. I don’t know who it was. I wish I could remember but I only heard him the one time while I was driving. He said something so profound that I almost pulled into a parking lot to write it all down.

This basics of it is this. We think and think things over many times trying to figure out what the right thing is to do. Many of us go to God and ask him, what do you want me to do? Sometimes we consider a question for days, weeks or even months.

However, the truth is that we know the right thing to do from the beginning. Figuring it out is not that difficult. It’s doing it that’s the hard part.

Well, to be truthful, sometimes we do have to make decisions where we really don’t know what is better. We may not truly know what we want. We might not even be able to determine what God wants.

On the other hand, frequently, we know exactly what the right thing is. We simply don’t want to do it.

I think that this is never more true than in the subject of abortion. I mean, it is plain, “Though shalt not murder.” It sort of removes all doubt, doesn’t it. We can start speculating about this and that, but it all boils down to one thing, doesn’t it? Is abortion murder? And again, likely you already know what is right and what is wrong concerning it. It just is that sometimes that little baby is just not convenient. Sometimes, we can’t afford it. And, by the way, “I’m going to college. How can I take care of a kid and study for that big test?”

Naturally, it is brought up that I am a man and I can’t understand. Mind you, I am not telling you what is right. I am only reminding you of what every woman knows. Abortion is murder. It cannot be denied. How does one call murder the right thing?

In this county, for a very long time, the decision was the mother’s without exception. It was her right to chose. However, how are you going to answer the question properly. Will you one day stand before God and try to explain your actions. For that matter, will you be able to. You think you have that really neat way of justifying the killing of a child placed in your care by God.

You see, the right thing isn’t always the easy thing. It is not always the convenient thing.

As the man said, it’s not really determining the right thing. It’s doing it that is so downright difficult. Taking care of a child while studying for a test is not the easy way. Having a kid really messes up the social life. Then too, what man will want a woman who already has a child?

None of it is easy. There are things that help, but it is never easy.

And, by the way, I made many decisions that I didn’t want to make. I really preferred the easy way. I must admit, I didn’t always do the right thing. Then, after, I very frequently regretted doing the wrong thing to this day. It is something of a problem with getting old. Every day, every woken moment, something might come to mind that I messed up because I figured I’d take the way of convenience.

One day, if you should live long enough, you too will regret as you remember those times when you chose convenience over the right thing.

The Minimums

I didn’t really watch the debate last night. First, I don’t have cable so I couldn’t. Second, it didn’t seem I would learn anything new to me. However, I did see bits and pieces on the broadcast channels, mainly CBS.I noticed that there were some remarks about abortion. I don’t know why people are so deadest on allowing the killing of the unborn under any circumstances and, of course at taxpayers expense. Those who have been reading my posts know what I think. However, just for those who don’t know, I believe at least 4 requirements should be made, preferably at the federal level.

1. Every mother should be required to see a sonogram. They say it is a medical procedure. Well all medical procedures require informed consent. If the patient is not informed, how can she give her informed consent?

2. Doctors, nurses, and facilities should meet minimum standards to prevent complications. The pro-abortion people try to use the concept of hanger abortions to further their case. Well, let’s make sure that if it is done, it should be safe. As of now, using a hanger is legal in some states.

3. Proper followup should be required. The doctor performing the abortion should at least make a cursory examination to make sure there were no complications. Most doctors want to do followups even for simple stitches to check for proper healing and that there is no infection. Complications in abortions are far more common than with stitches.

4. For girls under 18, parent permission should be required. At the least, they should be informed. If things go sideways, the parents are going to pay for the extra medical care required, which can be very expensive. More important, they need to know to look for problems so that they can be treated right away…before they become serious, perhaps fatal.

As kind of a side note: if there are problems, the doctor should be every bit as liable as any other physician. It helps in two ways. The doctor will be more careful. Also, if the doctor caused a problem due to criminal negligence, he needs to be prosecuted.

Success

I have had no formal training as an evangelist. If I were fortunate enough to address an audience of a hundred and 3 of them made decisions to accept Jesus as their savior, I would consider it a success. If it were 5, I would be ecstatic.

I guess most preachers would hope for something greater than that; maybe 10 or 12. I mean, when the plan of salvation is presented, it is usually rejected. I really don’t have the foggiest idea why. It is really a good thing to accept Jesus as your savior. Yet, many reject him. I suspect, mostly the things of this world are more important to them than their eternal souls.

Well, some have better success than others. Billy Graham certainly had his success. He had a mostly simple straightforward way to present the plan of salvation and certainly God did his part. Paul, the one who wrote much of the New Testament presented the gospel to his thousands, and in a way, he is still helping to persuade people to accept the Lord today through the printed word.

A person might ask, who could possibly be more successful than that? Yet there is one, percentage-wise, who has us all beat. Moreover, he had a very simple sermon. “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” Simple and straightforward as it was, it apparently had 100% effectiveness. Everyone who heard the words repented and worshiped God.

Wow! I wish I could have that kind of success. However, there were two more things that made the conversion different. First, Jonah did just about all he could to keep it all from happening. He hated the people of Nineveh and he did not want to see them saved. In other words, perhaps the most successful preacher in history wanted to be an outright failure. Secondly, when the people repented God relented and did not destroy the city. Now that angered Jonah and he pitched a fit. (my interpretation)

In essence, it appeared God used Jonah’s rebellion for success. After all, it was very likely that the people of that great city knew of Jonah and what all he went through to keep from going to the city. When they saw Jonah arrive, when they all saw the sad expression on Jonah’s face, the people likely decided that God did really did mean it and that if they didn’t repent something bad was going to happen.

Now, that was success. Oddly, it was his determination to fail that made it succeed. It does make me wonder. What would have happened if Jonah would have done as he was told immediately. Maybe his success would have been 80% or 70%. I don’t know. It’s a guess and likely not a good one. Maybe, had Jonah done as he was told, no one would have listened and the city would have been destroyed, which was the very thing Jonah wanted.

At any rate, the people of that great city backslid and went back to their previous ways. Then, God did as he said he would. The city was destroyed so badly that some doubted the story of Jonah. No one could find the city. Then, one day they did. They not only found proof of its existence but also of its destruction. I have no idea if Jonah lived to see it or not. At any rate, those people did have their second chance and they ignored it.

I just wonder, how much is God going take from the US before he destroys this great country? At this point, I’m not sure we are not that much better than Nineveh. How long will God allow us to ignore his messengers and destroy the US?

Just as He destroyed that great city, He can also destroy this great nation. He needs no one’s permission and He need not send any warnings. We have the examples of the Bible. If we ignore them, then we will likely ignore any other warnings.

Certainly, one of those things that He will not overlook is the killing of babies. Children are very special to Him. Calling it family planning does not make it look one iota better to Him

There’s Another Way

Please, let me apologize in advance if I am miss quoting Gov Nikki Haley. I was listening to the radio and I thought I heard a quote by her about military paying for transportation for abortions. When it was suggested that the Senate hold up promotions she just may have said that there must be another way.

I don’t like that at all. It is worse than an incomplete sentence. It is certainly an incomplete thought. She says there is another way and drops it. First, there might not be another way. Secondly, it sounds like it is a very effective idea. Third, if she really does have another idea, even if not as good, let’s hear it. My ears are ready to hear her idea(s).

Fact is… she should not make such a statement and drop it. She should think ahead and make the suggestion instead of arbitrarily shooting down the one idea that just might work. At the very least, if tax payers are going to foot the bill, the pregnant woman should at least be required to look at an ultrasound before destroying a life. I wonder if Governor Haley has given that any thought.

Not All Things Are Static

Contrary to the concepts and beliefs of some folks, the world is far from static.  If something is changed here, then it will result in changes there and maybe there too.

The dems believe they can increase revenue by increasing taxes.  The fact is, it can actually have the reverse effect.  After all, who is going to work harder if their extra pay will go to Uncle Sam?  I’ve heard, though it was not confirmed, that Elvis Presley limited the movies he did each year because he was tired of so much of his income going to taxes.  Don’t know if it is true, but it seems believable.  On the other hand, he might not have wanted to do any more movies.  Then again, he might have run out of plots or leading ladies.

The truth is that the dems are well aware that raising taxes does not always increase revenue.  It’s just in their blood.  They take the podium and, by their nature, they just insist it has to be done usually for the children.  One thing we do know, large amounts of taxation does stifle production, especially internally.

If you doubt this, consider what might happen if taxation were 100%.  It would totally bring the economy to a grinding halt.  Nothing would get done.  Farmers wouldn’t farm, bakers wouldn’t bake and it would be impossible to hale a taxi.

Now, I’m going to apply the static concept to something else, perhaps a little more touchy.  If I heard it once, I heard it a thousand times.  Even conservatives say that exceptions should be made for rape or incest.  I don’t like the idea.  I find killing any innocent child unthinkable.  But it’s worse.

As I said, the world is not static.  The woman wants an abortion, no problem.  She says my uncle raped me.  Or she says she was raped but she has no idea who it was or it was the man down the street that she doesn’t like.

Immediately, this causes at least two problems.  Innocent people become accused, perhaps convicted.  Moreover, police and court resources are used where there was no crime.

I have heard the argument against this idea.  No woman would ever do anything like that.  Hogwash.  Even today, men are falsely accused of sexual assault and rape.  This is without the additional incentive of a woman ridding herself of an unwanted burden.

It would divert needed resources away from real rapes and assaults.  Worse, it would weaken the case of women who have actually been raped.  The question in court would always come up, “Are you accusing this man because he raped you or because you want an abortion?”

To be sure, there are also legal problems.  Just when and who decides there was a rape?  Does the woman immediately get the abortion or does she have to wait until the case is proven in court.  If she has to wait, the baby just might be carried to term before the trial is over.

Finally, it can devastate the already weakened families.  Men, fathers, uncles or even brothers will have to guard themselves from ever being alone with a young lady.  Do we really want to expose our family life to such things?  Is this what we really want?

Such things might only happen one out of a thousand times.  If you were the relative, if you were the friend of the family, would you ever want to be charged with such a thing, even if you managed to prove your innocence?

The fact is, when you make such laws, they need to be thought completely through.

Is rape and incest bad?  Of course it is.  Personally, I feel men convicted of such things ought to be hung by their toes till dead.  Just my own personal opinion.  But not all fixes are good.  Sometimes, they are worse than the problem.

Neutral Law Enforcement

During my thirties, my job took me to New York, just outside Syracuse. There’s a nice park there where I used to walk. It beat looking at the hotel room walls.

It was the right time of year and the evenings were almost always wonderful. There was a baseball diamond there and, of course, little leaguers playing baseball.

When I stopped and watched the game, they found out I was from Mississippi. They suddenly realized they found the perfect unbiased umpire. They immediately put me to work calling balls and strikes.

Apparently, they were impressed with my fairness, if not my accuracy. They kept calling me back and they never complained, not once. Now that, in itself, is something of which for me to brag.

The point is this, people love an honest neutral arbiter, whether it be an umpire, a judge in a courtroom, a prosecutor or even law enforcement officers. I guess that nowadays it’s too much for we Americans to expect. No more fair umpires in our government. No more fair observations from TV and radio reporters. There are no hopes of getting unbiased reporting from newspapers. Finally, and worst of all, the historians are twisting history. They say things happened I know didn’t happen. At my age, I actually remember stuff firsthand.

It makes me sad. However, I have hope. There is a righteous judge. All accounts will be settled. The most devious government officials will pay. I don’t need to do a thing. God’s judgment is true. God’s judgment is sure. No one will get away with anything. Those who don’t believe it are only deceiving themselves.

What amazes me is some actually think they know and understand it. Yet, definitely, they continue their march. I can’t think of anything more foolish.
