A Matter of Litter

I noticed the last few days a news story about junk in the Mississippi River. Some group is going around removing it and I certainly commend them for it.

The fact that the junk is there says a thing or two about Americans. When I first stepped out onto Sydney streets during my R&R there, I was amazed. They were clean. The parks were not just just litter free but also well landscaped.

It has been over fifty years since I was there so I don’t know if it’s the same there. However, it somewhat shamed me. Consider what it is like in San Francisco or NY, NY these days.

Most Americans are careful about the way they maintain the appearance of the interior of their car so they toss the paper cups out the window.

I guess, from time to time my car is a little trashy. I hold onto my trash until I can dispose of it properly. On the other hand, I frequently see folks lower the window of their Lincoln Town Car and toss their coffee cups out.

Sometimes, it makes me wish I was carrying a badge. Then as I think it over, I realize it would do little or no good. Nowadays, the police are not permitted to pursue for hijacking. Don’t think I would be permitted for illegally discarding a Starbucks coffee cup.

Looks like we’re doomed to put up with hijackers and litterers… streets and rivers. Also, reminds me of the trash thrown out by the news media.

Why the Impeachment Inquiry?

Actually, there are many reasons. Indeed if the Biden family is not guilty of anything, the inquiry will vindicate them. Believe it or not, if Old Joe is not guilty of anything, I am one of the first to say he should be regarded as innocent. It will be good to rid him of the dark cloud that has been lingering over his head for close to a decade.

Even if there is not enough evidence to get a guilty verdict from the Senate, it will still be good to present whatever evidence there is. It is better that one and all know what kind of man they might be voting for. You note in the case of Trump, they presented no evidence because they had none. They knew all he did since taking office and could find nothing wrong with any of it. Maybe Old Joe doesn’t want the inquiry because he is afraid of what it will reveal.

The truth is, push come to shove, there is no since actually voting for an impeachment unless the proof is very strong. With more dems in the Senate than Republicans, there is no hope of getting a conviction unless only a blind man can’t see the guilt.

Then again, if it is that bad, Old Joe will likely step down by popular demand within his party, before the impeachment trial.

I don’t really think the dems would like that, but then again that just might be why they don’t want the inquiry.

Bowing Out

Might be wrong but I don’t think so. I figure in just a matter of days, Old Joe is going to develop a problem, one that will keep him from running. It clearly appears to me that even the dems are starting to realize he’s not going to make it through election. He might not even make it to the election.

It does bring to mind a number of things that the dems would not like to see. One of many things could occur that just might spell disaster to the power structure.

First, President Trump just might beat all the accusations. As I mentioned before, the dems would have some explaining to do.

Second, Hunter just might get locked up. That would mean he will start singing like a canary. Not only would Joe go to prison but the entire family.

Third, a financial problem. This would be either a recession or another shot of inflation. This could be triggered by bank problems or maybe a big industry like the auto manufacturing. If the cars cost too much, people won’t buy them, not from Detroit anyway.

Forth, a tragic event caused by some terrorist(s) being allowed over the border. It could be multi-city.

Fifth, too many illegal immigrants in too many dem run cities. Already, NY, NY is on the brink of failure according to the mayor himself and people have already begun leaving. Those U-Hauls going in are empty. It’s the one leaving that are packed.

Finally, the folks just might get tired of an open border and lack of law enforcement.

It is not my desire that any of this should happen but I can read t-leaves. The worst part is that it will likely happen fast. It might also trigger other things. Putting that puppet known as Old Joe in front of the cameras to try to settle things won’t work. It will just make matters worse.

It is easy to see, there is already some panic showing in the dem leadership. If something breaks, no one will want to have nothing to do with anything.

Even if there are no problems, it is easy to see there are already problems and the dems are already seeking plans and methods.

If I Were President

It is, of course. a ridiculous idea. After all, I have already admitted to being a bad leader. Still there is the little word, ‘if.’ That little word that separates reality from what might be. As I sit down her and contemplate, I wonder just how many men have considered the question before. I have heard that a person’s 40th birthday is the worst. It is when you awake to the reality that you will never be president.

Those who have read my posts already know many of the things I would do: clean out the leadership of many of the bureaucracies in DC; certainly, I would downsize many of the departments. (Education, combine intelligence agencies, etc.); I’d make other agencies more responsible as well. I would hire a ten man teem to search for waste in the systems.

I’d make sure we had a nice big wall on the border from the Pacific to the gulf. Those who are already here illegally would know to go into hiding, because I’d make sure those who are not here legally would have to leave. I’d make sure those who were not citizens or here legally would not be able to find employment. Those caught hiring people here illegally would be fined, thrown in jail or both. The deportation process would be far more effective at keeping people from crossing the border than the fence. When people know they can’t stay, they won’t go though such an effort to come here.

I simply have not one idea how I could incarcerate Fauci, but I’d have five lawyers researching it. Moreover, I’d do what I could to encourage congress to pass laws against some of the stuff he did. We have enough disease. We do not need to invent any. More importantly, we do not need to pay our enemies to develop such things.

I would encourage a few amendments. Right at the top would be term limits. While idealistically, the voters should determine term limits, history has shown us that does not work. Just look at the age of some of those senators. Therefore, I would encourage age limits as well.

I am not so idealistic as to think I could get any such thing passed immediately. Too many old codgers in there that would vote against it. It would have to be grandfathered in. In other words, it would not apply to those already in the House or Senate. Not my preference, but it would be the only way to get it to pass.

I would insist that all bills passed by congress be shortened. Long bills have a tendency to have a lot of pork and they are difficult to understand. If they send me a 10,000 page book, I’d would simply veto it. When they pass a law, the people are expected to live by these laws. Only lawyers have the time to read 10,000 page books.

Certainly, I would do what I could to help the production of oil. When Joe slowed the oil production, he did almost as much damage as everything else he did. Low prices for fuel would help to solve a long list of problems. The cost of energy affects everything.

I would appoint someone to look into those arrested on Jan 6. Most, I would pardon. Those that caused damage would be commuted to a lesser sentence. I would make sure that that Epps character would be investigated. If appropriate, he’d be tried, convicted and tossed in prison for as long as possible. He’s a good example of someone who needs to be made an example.

There are many other things I would do, but what’s the point of covering them. I’m not 40 and I’ll never be president. However, as bad a leader as I am, there is not a doubt in my mind that I would do far better than Old Joe. And I’m but five years younger than he is.

Now. As for that presidential limo. I just wonder. Would it be possible to convert it to elect power. No need angering those going green folks unnecessarily.

I Have Questions

While the news is all full of stories about the recapture of the murderer, Danelo Cavalcante, I have questions that, I guess no one wants to answer.

My first question is, did he enter the US legally? On my own, I determined he is from Brazil. However, I suppose he might have come legally. Given the way things are at the border, the chances are high his arrival was illegal?

That, naturally brings up the supposition that the woman he killed would still be breathing.

My next question is how many dems are willing to lay this death at the feet of Old Joe? Had it not been for Joe’s changes in policy, the man might still be south of the border waiting for a hearing.

Third question. How much time, effort and money was spent convicting the man? Thousands? Tens of thousands? A lot? By the way, his defense was also likely paid for by the tax payers.

Another question, how many more times is this story repeated to some degree all over the country? How many more times will it take before the dems decide it’s time to seal the border. How many more deaths will it take to open their eyes?

And now the escape and search! How many law enforcement men have been pulled from other important duties? How much money was dispersed in the effort?

And then, by the way, the man was armed. Law enforcement officials might have been wounded or killed. Oh, and by the way, bystanders – children might have been hurt.

My last question…would anyone, anyone at all ask Old Joe if he feels any remorse for opening the floodgates? I doubt anyone will. It’s one of those rhetorical questions. You know, the ones where we already know the answer. Besides, he might be one of the few in this country who wouldn’t understand the question.

I guess I lied. I do have 1 more question, the rhetorical type. Are we ready for Old Joe to pack his things and go back to where he can’t do any more damage?

Car Thievery

Yesterday, I was looking around the web concerning crime. I found something that I thought I would pass along. Of over 80 cars stolen in Southaven, MS this year, nearly half were taken from hospital parking lots. I had to think that over for two reasons. I guess it makes since. After all, many people spend hours days or even weeks in the hospital without returning to their cars. It would seem the thief need not in a hurry.

Secondly, just what could be done to decrease the thievery, both collectively and individually. I have been giving it more than casual thought.

I know that Baptist Desoto has security personnel patrolling the lots. One might think it would discourage the thieves. However, they do drive well marked cars with flashing lights. I suppose a person could wait until the flashing lights are on the other side of the lot.

I guess as an individual, we can make sure to lock all doors and maybe leave that 250 pound friend you have and pay him a dollar or two to stand watch over the Mercedes you have. On the other hand, you should leave the Mercedes behind and take the old 49 Chevy. Wait a minute. 49 Chevys might be just the sort of thing an antique dealer might be looking for.

Hay! Here’s an idea! When we catch the thief, let’s make sure he stays in prison for a while, like 20 years. He might be causing problems in prison, but he won’t be stealing cars for a couple of decades. Who knows? If we keep that up for a while, we just might not have to lock our cars up anymore.

What Recourse?

It is a question I have mauled over in my mind a few times. What happens when a person is charged with a crime and he has to mortgage the house and the wife’s wedding to pay for the defense. Then after it is over, the jury says “Not guilty,” what recourse has the man got.

He’s still left with the mortgage and, of course, he likely no longer has a job. The district attorney might send you a nice impressive apology letter, I don’t know. Just maybe it can be used to apply for another job.

So, people, like President Trump can afford the costs of lawyers. If one of those runaway district attorneys came after me, I’d have to rely on one of those lawyers provided by the state. Then, of course, if that’s not enough, then that won’t be enough.

There is a lot of power in the hands of a DA. He can break a man, though he be innocent. He can walk in and say, “Sign on the dotted line or get yourself a good lawyer; cause this is going to cost you a bundle.”

In theory, that is the purpose of the grand jury but you and I know, that rarely works. Pre-trials can help a little, but even that requires a lawyer.

Perhaps, if they come and knock on my door and tell me I’m under arrest for something I didn’t do, I’d just plead not guilty and sit there and wait for them to prove that I am. That way, I may end up in prison, but at least they won’t make me spend my last dime on the impossible.

Actually, that’s not the point. The state pays the bills for the DA. When he loses a case, he’s not out a dollar. He doesn’t lose his house and boat. He shrugs his shoulders, smiles and says, sorry. I really thought you were guilty.

I don’t know the answer to that. Like I’ve said, I have mauled it over for a while now. Maybe we need a third option for a jury. If the person charged proves his innocence, then the jury ought to come up with a decision of innocent. If that happens, the state must pay all the lawyer bills, plus 10% for the inconvenience.

Moreover, if a man can go back out into society proved innocent, he just might be able to get another job.

I’m open to suggestions. It is the best idea I have. However, we really do need to make these DAs be a bit more careful the way they throw their power around.

Please don’t get me wrong. Most DAs bend over backward in an effort to keep from putting the wrong guy in prison. It’s kind of like what I heard all the way through high school. It’s always the 10% that ruins for all the others.

Precipice

Precipice : a very steep rock face or cliff, especially a tall one. As many English words, it was borrowed from the French. From the word, we have developed the saying, on the precipice, which might not actually have anything to do with the lay of the land. That is to say, we might use the phrase to indicate that we are near a massive change, should we continue on. We might also say, if we keep going that way, we just might fall off a cliff.

Some of us, when we are told that we are headed toward a dangerous precipice, we will take note. This is true regardless if it is a physical or a figurative danger. Some simply will not heed the danger. Some go on and when they go off the cliff, they wonder why didn’t someone tell me?

Well, right here, right now someone is here to tell you. If you keep going, it’s your fault.

There are thousands of counties in the US. Each county has a prosecuting attorney of some kind. Of course, each county has a court and the means to try people who disobey the law. Sometimes these prosecutors get things wrong. Sometimes, they prosecute the wrong people. Sometimes, they prosecute when there is no crime.

Hopefully, we have judges and juries that keep such prosecutors in check. Then again these prosecutors can become determined to lock up someone simply because he dosn’t like the guy. Maybe he doesn’t like the way he combs his hair or what kind of cap he wears. Sometimes it does become political. That is the precipice of which I am writing.

When a man is elected to office, be he Republican or democrat, there are thousands of prosecutors that are of the opposite party. And so, the Republican is in danger of being charged by the democrat and the democrat is in danger of being charged by the Republicans. Hence, there is danger whoever is sworn in.

It is likely the reason that the forefathers wrote the Constitution so that the only way a president can be removed from office is by impeachment. It is why they were careful as to how this can be done. It would appear the democrats have found an end around process. Now, they not only charge President Trump, but also everyone who has been around him. It is the Midas touch in reverse.

Then, of course, should Trump regain office, just maybe he is going to start charging democrats with crimes. I don’t think so, but he might. It is a dangerous precipice. If we continue in this direction, we just might see the downfall of the greatest nation that ever was. More over, it might come suddenly. Those doomsday preppers just might want to re-check their supplies.

Our court systems are going to be filled with people being charged with being democrats or Republicans. The criminals will be ecstatic. No one will be paying any attention to them. Well, actually, the communists will be even more thrilled. They will just walk into to the mess and take over everything.

Let’s Remember What is Really Important

  1. Man cannot live without air. It’s a fact. The air must be of the proper mixture. Too much or too little of any one gas in the mixture can be deadly within minutes. God knows that so, when He made earth, He provided us with air in abundance. You don’t have to go out and buy it, though it is possible. All we need do is breathe. I think it goes without saying that air is the most important earthly thing for us. As we humans are apt to do, we take it for granted.
  2. Water. Two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen. Chemists have found it an oddity in many ways. For instance, it is one of the few compounds that expands when it goes from a liquid to solid. If you don’t believe me, try putting a soda in the freezer for a couple of days. No, no. Don’t do that. It will make a mess and you’ll blame me. Nonetheless, it is why ice floats. and… if ice did not float, it would cause more problems than I can put in one post. Incidentally, water is important too. It is the second most valuable substance to man. A man can go just about 3 days without water. After that, he will fail to breathe. That is to say, he will no longer be able to take advantage of the most important substance, air.
  3. Food. Unlike air, food must be sought, raised or hunted. In some cases, it does grow on trees, but even then, nowadays, farmers grow it. As a side note, to get food, we must have air and water. I guess that makes the air and water doubly important. The time a person can survive without food varies. However, I think we can safely say most people will not survive without some food for more than a month. Fortunately, God has provided us with food too. It just is that sometimes we have more difficulty getting it. Oddly, most of us enjoy eating. That is, unlike water and air. We drink water and we breathe air. However, we don’t normally so much sit down around a table and talk about the days events as we breathe and drink water.
  4. Salt. Nowadays the docs try to caution us against eating too much salt but it is necessary. God knew that and he provided us with a lot of that too, though sometimes it does need to be found where it is. If nothing else, we could drink seawater, just make sure we don’t overdo it. As the doctors say, we do need to watch our intake. It is especially needed for those who work hard out in the sun.
  5. By the way, while speaking of the sun, we must not overlook that. It provides us with light, heat, energy (even in fossil fuel and wind mills) As somewhat of a minor function, it does tell us what time of the day it is and what part of the year. Also, without the sun, it just might be a little difficult finding water, that is, even ignoring the warmth thing. Every day Mr. Sun evaporates tons of water, which is dropped on various land masses. This provides streams, rivers and lakes. Just think how much water the sun needs to continuously evaporate just to keep the great lakes full. Yeah, the sun’s pretty important too.

I’m sure you know I can go on and on about the important things, sort of like a reminder. It is good to remember them and give thanks for them every now and then.

The point is, have you ever thought about how important gold is. I mean, if gold was really all that important to us, don’t you think God would have made it more abundant. To me, the value of gold is in the minds of man. Really, we could live without uncovering another ounce of gold for the next century or so, wouldn’t you think.

It does have real practical uses, but mostly it just sits around in formed in shiny bars, under peoples mattresses and hanging around the necks of folks like Mr. T. It’s nice to look at, but it is simply not that important. Yet, every day, people are on TV telling me I must go out and buy gold, in case of a financial disaster.

I guess, if it is held within reason, it is okay. However, the way I look at it, it just gives the other guy a reason to shoot me. I don’t need the gold. He doesn’t need the gold. Why should either of us get shot over it?

I really think it would be a good idea for all of us to remember what is really important. I will take that one step farther and suggest we remember WHO is important. You know. Family, friends and the really nice guy that was good enough to give you a job so you can buy those potatoes, tomatoes and the occasional steak.

On the other hand, those dems sure think they know what is important, control and they will do anything, lie, steal and kill to get it. Don’t try to tell me they won’t. They have.

Success

I have had no formal training as an evangelist. If I were fortunate enough to address an audience of a hundred and 3 of them made decisions to accept Jesus as their savior, I would consider it a success. If it were 5, I would be ecstatic.

I guess most preachers would hope for something greater than that; maybe 10 or 12. I mean, when the plan of salvation is presented, it is usually rejected. I really don’t have the foggiest idea why. It is really a good thing to accept Jesus as your savior. Yet, many reject him. I suspect, mostly the things of this world are more important to them than their eternal souls.

Well, some have better success than others. Billy Graham certainly had his success. He had a mostly simple straightforward way to present the plan of salvation and certainly God did his part. Paul, the one who wrote much of the New Testament presented the gospel to his thousands, and in a way, he is still helping to persuade people to accept the Lord today through the printed word.

A person might ask, who could possibly be more successful than that? Yet there is one, percentage-wise, who has us all beat. Moreover, he had a very simple sermon. “Forty more days and Nineveh will be overthrown.” Simple and straightforward as it was, it apparently had 100% effectiveness. Everyone who heard the words repented and worshiped God.

Wow! I wish I could have that kind of success. However, there were two more things that made the conversion different. First, Jonah did just about all he could to keep it all from happening. He hated the people of Nineveh and he did not want to see them saved. In other words, perhaps the most successful preacher in history wanted to be an outright failure. Secondly, when the people repented God relented and did not destroy the city. Now that angered Jonah and he pitched a fit. (my interpretation)

In essence, it appeared God used Jonah’s rebellion for success. After all, it was very likely that the people of that great city knew of Jonah and what all he went through to keep from going to the city. When they saw Jonah arrive, when they all saw the sad expression on Jonah’s face, the people likely decided that God did really did mean it and that if they didn’t repent something bad was going to happen.

Now, that was success. Oddly, it was his determination to fail that made it succeed. It does make me wonder. What would have happened if Jonah would have done as he was told immediately. Maybe his success would have been 80% or 70%. I don’t know. It’s a guess and likely not a good one. Maybe, had Jonah done as he was told, no one would have listened and the city would have been destroyed, which was the very thing Jonah wanted.

At any rate, the people of that great city backslid and went back to their previous ways. Then, God did as he said he would. The city was destroyed so badly that some doubted the story of Jonah. No one could find the city. Then, one day they did. They not only found proof of its existence but also of its destruction. I have no idea if Jonah lived to see it or not. At any rate, those people did have their second chance and they ignored it.

I just wonder, how much is God going take from the US before he destroys this great country? At this point, I’m not sure we are not that much better than Nineveh. How long will God allow us to ignore his messengers and destroy the US?

Just as He destroyed that great city, He can also destroy this great nation. He needs no one’s permission and He need not send any warnings. We have the examples of the Bible. If we ignore them, then we will likely ignore any other warnings.

Certainly, one of those things that He will not overlook is the killing of babies. Children are very special to Him. Calling it family planning does not make it look one iota better to Him
