The Wonderful Side Affect

The Israelis, from what I understand, are thinking of flooding the tunnels that Hamas have dug. It does sound like a good idea, though there do seem to be some bad results. It does seem that everything that is good, have their negative parts as well.

Nonetheless, I think they should do it. It very well may solve one of the problems the going green bunch keep bringing to mind…you know, the one where they predict the rising ocean levels.

I hear tell, there are miles and miles of tunnels down there. Indeed, after flooding all those tunnels, they might need to pump some of the water back into the sea. We certainly don’t want to lower the oceans too much.

The 64 Dollar Question

Over and over they ask Israel why won’t they do more to protect civilians?

For me, their inquiry is of the wrong leaders. Why don’t they ask the Humas to do more to protect the civilians. Maybe, perhaps, possibly, we could settle for doing less to put the lives of civilians in jeapardy. Has it ever occurred to the Israeli accusers to ask the cowardly Humas soldiers to stop hiding behind babies and old women.

Of course they’d not even consider it. They’d not like the results. It would put the truly violent people in the proper light. After all, one of the jobs of the media is to aid their friends, horrid as their actions are.

A Frequent Question These Days

The question that people seem to be asking in some way or shape is, do you believe that aliens exist.

Well, I’ll settle that right here and now. They do exist. You can see them by the thousands. They are living amongst us. I might say, they don’t even try to conceal themselves.

They come in various sizes. Some might try to run but most give up quickly. It is as if they want to be caught. They would go back from wince they came but they decided they like it here. It’s kinda like the droves of folks in the 1960s that visited California then they decided to stay.

I guess we’re just stuck with them. Though they arrived illegally, they seem to be here to stay. It seems so very few have any desire to obey the law.

And so it is, another one of those things that is so casual to the most obvious observer. I mean, just how many aliens does it take before their existence is confirmed.

Do you suppose they will decide to leave after the dems gain absolute control, as in California.

What If?

Just had an odd thought. Just what if Old Joe ends up in court facing charges of accepting bribes. Then to avoid the trial he seeks to claim he’s to senile to properly aid in his defense?

It would keep Old Joe out of prison, but it sure would give the dems a black eye. Then again, they’d not care, as long as it did no damage to their power structure. The dems are beyond being embarrassed.

They’ve Built Their Own House

Those who have eyes have likely noticed that the movie industry is hurting. Box office sales have been plummeting. That is a way of saying that they are losing money.

As I have said many times before, I am not the expert, but some things are casual to the most obvious observer. It is interesting to note that theaters continued to draw crowds during the worst of the depression, which seems to reduce the concept that it is economic.

Certainly TV has had a lot to do with it. At first, it could be totally ignored. The screens of televisions were small and strictly black and white. Also, only the theaters had the latest and best shows. Finally, the movie theater had a certain thing, a magic to them.

For this reason, people were willing to pay the 10 or 15 cents of the day. However, as time passed, the TVs grew larger, and then came color. Even so, the movie industry grew. However, they were looking for newer, different plots. They started pushing the envelope as to what they would show and say. Innuendos became less implied and more, outright plain.

Eventually, of course they reached the point where they said anything and showed everything. It was the advantage they still had over TV, which was still regulated by the FCC.

Then came cable and suddenly, anything that was on the big screen could be seen on the small screen. Now, if not before, for sure now, the movie industry had some real competition.

Still, in spite of it all, they were managing, though I suspect even then, it had begun its failure. While there was a day, a family could afford the occasional night at the theater, not so much anymore. The 50 cent tickets of my youth had risen to ten and fifteen dollars. When you’re taking a family of 6, many times the decision is made to wait a few months for the movie to go to cable or even broadcast TV.

This all brings me to the final two blows that just almost hit at the same time. First there is the loss of substance. I think I have counted 3 versions of the OK Corral; maybe 4 or 5 of the the Alamo. How many times has the Titanic been sunk. I know the Poseiden has gone down at least twice.

The other problem originated in a lab in China and litterally destroyed people, businesses and who knows knows what all. It very well might have sounded the death knell to the, so called, siver screen.

So it is that after nearly a century of shining the big spot lights on themselves, the industry, as it is, will likely go under.

Is it salvageable? I don’t know. I used to frequent the theater. I went to see Sound of Music 4 times at the Fox Wilshire. It was reported that there was one woman who saw the movie once a day for the 4 years of the exclusive run at the Fox Wilshire. She had the entire script commited to memory.

Nonetheless, the movie had tremendous success. People were willing to pay the price to see it, sometimes multiple times because it was a good movie, which was done very well. And, by the way, it had no profanity or nudity. Was it the best movie of all time. I don’t know. However, it certainly was one of the most successful.

It is solid proof that profanity and nudity is not nearly as successful as good quality and material.

It has been years now since I’ve gone to the theater. I have been waiting for a good movie. It would seem that Hollywood has been so busy taking bows after the horrid recently made stuff, that they seem to have forgotten that attractive leading acters is but one small part of a success.

The one thing I do find interesting is that for just about a century, they have made huge advances in equipment and special effects while the plots and dialog have been taking a nosedive.

Bottom line. People will not return to the theater until the theaters start providing something worth paying for. Recently, I have not seen anything worth the 5 dollars of yesteryear, let alone the current prices.

I Like Pizza

That in itself won’t surprise many. What might confuse a few is that one of my most favorite places to get pizza is Subway. About every 10th visit, I will order one of the personal size pizzas.

Certainly, the biggest advantage is that if there are 10 of you, each can have their pizza made to order, or of course, a Subway sandwich. The pizza will be burn your tongue hot. In my youth, I would have enjoyed two of them. These days I do well to finish one.

My wife hates onions and bell peppers. At Subway, I get to have both on my pizza while she need only tolerate the aroma.

Oh, did I mention. Hardly any wait. Far less than a Big Mac.

Incidentally, sometimes I enjoy a good tuna salad. It does more than look good.

My aapologies if I’ve made you hungry. Just figured you should know.

The Holes in The Logic

Many times, the argument has been made that the reason so many shootings take place in NY, NY is that many guns are sold in other states and brought in.

Firstly, there is the obvious one. If all imports were stopped from other states, they would be imported from other countries, as was the case of alcohol during prohibition. Might I reminind one and all, alcohol came from Canada, though it was also illegal in Canada.

Also, may I remind one and all, many made alcoholic beverages. It was easy. Guns too can be made in basements. I would suspect it is where some are made today.

Secondly, the sales and purchase is legal in most states. Why is it that NY, NY continues to have problems when states such as Texas don’t. By the way, the same question applies to Chicago.

Thirdly, when NY, NY makes guns illegal, who is it that goes out of state to buy the guns. Mostly, it’s just the bad guys. So it is…all the bad guys have guns and all the good guys have sling shots.

Well the good guys can all just call the police, who are being defunded.

Incidentally, how long will it be before NY, NY outlaws slingshots, which any kid can make in 20 or 30 minutes.

Arrival of a King

It is a common thing to have a celebratory greeting of a visiting head of state. If the leader from a friendly major country visits, we would, so to speak, roll out the red carpet. Generally, we would have a big band and, many from the press would be there. Certainly, there would be many dignitaries, maybe the president, himself.

As the visiting dignitary left the plane, people would greet him and shake his hand. There might be a military representation who would provide a ceremonial salute.

It happens frequently. On the other hand, when a president visits other countries, it is not without much pomp and circumstance. We have grown to expect it.

Yet, a little over 2000 years ago, a king arrived and hardly anyone noticed it. There were but an uncertain number of shepherds who left their sheep to greet the greatest king ever. They, and they alone spent a short time to visit Him and and His parents.

As a side note, the wisemen did not arrive with their gifts for likely a year or more later. The only dignitaries who met the king on arrival were a few unnamed shepherds.

However, we today, and will into the foreseeable future, celebrate His arrival worldwide, moreso than ever any head-of-state. Indeed, some even celebrate His arrival while denying Him. Nations celebrate His arrival who worship idols.

That…that is recognition that no one has or ever will receive. People sing of Him him and know Him not. They exchange gifts in His name while knowing not why.

One day, likely soon, Jesus will return. This time, it will not be just a small group of shepherds who will see Him. Indeed, He will be seen by all and recognized by all. I have no authority to say as much, but I suspect that that will include the blind.

I say this as an encouragement. If you don’t know the one we celebrate at Christmas, I suggest you take the time to genuinely find out who He is. It is a poor idea to ignore one who is so great.

Rules & Refs

It’s another football weekend. Teams will take to the field and play, mostly by the rules. When there are infractions the referees will usually step in and penalize the guilty team.

Nowadays, the officiaters have help. It just almost seems like there are cameras everywhere. When a play is in doubt, it can generally be reviewed from 2 or 3 different angles. I would call that a good thing. It keeps the game a little more fair, though occasionally someone does get by with something.

However, that just doesn’t happen much these days. There are many refs out there and the refs are getting better.

However, I think Old Joe’s been watching too many football games. He seems to think wars are like football. He seems to think the fighters will all compete by the rules. Whenever they don’t, he expects someone to toss a flag. Then, whenever there is a contested action, he figures it can be reviewed on the instant replay. This of course, while everyone just pauses and uses the time to catch their breath. And, oh yes, it will give the fan a chance to get a brew.

Then to, in war, there are no stopwatches. It isn’t over in a few hours. For some, it’s never over.

Better that the wars never start, like when Trump was in office. Better that the war is over fast. Less will be killed in a 2 week war than a two month war.

Old Joe just doesn’t get it. Because he permitted Iran and Russia to build up their fortunes, two wars broke out. People are dying because he insisted on driving the price of oil up. People are dying because Old Joe decided to give Iran a few billion.

I sure wish we could get a referee to throw one of those yellow things and pronounce penalties on Russian and Iran. However, I’m not getting my hopes up. I know the difference between football and war.
