A Curiosity

There is a question of small significance based on the Bible and prophecy. Just why is it that the US is not mentioned in the Bible. It does seem to many that the Bible has left out half the world. Some might even suggest it is one of the more important parts.

Many have asked the question. Some have suggested answers. Personally, I don’t know. I do consider it something of a curiosity, though I would never let such a thing cause any doubts in the accuracy of God’s word.

As near as I can figure, what happens in terms of prophecy in the western hemisphere, is of little significance. Currently, that seems highly unlikely.

However, it would not take but a few days for that to change.

  1. A natural disaster. California, the Mid-south and many other places in Mexico and South America have serious fault lines. Just lately I found out there are faults under New York too, though not currently active. From time to time, I have been reminded that Yellowstone sets a top a huge volcano capable of destroying most of this country and send ashes worldwide. Such a thing just might help fulfill prophecies. I don’t know. As I say. I just observe.
  2. It might be war or a few terrorists. China, Iran and a few other countries would like American history to end. The Dems, on the other hand, seem to be inviting terrorists over an open border. A few well placed nuclear weapons would destroy our nation. Just look what 3 well placed planes did. Many take our national security for granted. They like the advantages of living here but they are not willing to help pay for it.
  3. Finally, there is the possibility of destruction from within. Those who say the Republicans are destroying democracy are tearing our Constitution asunder. Without the 10 amendments to protect us, the US will crumble.

Maybe none of this will happen. I don’t know. If any of it does, I hope I don’t live to see it. On the other hand, the more I observe, the more I believe it will be the third. With the dems such as they are, the Lord will not need to send natural disasters or even an enemy to destroy the nation he sees going very much astray. We will do a really great job of destroying ourselves.

Common Sense for Bullies

All the way through junior high, I was fairly tall, though I was on the skinny side. Mostly, the bullies left me alone. However, in the eighth grade, there was one guy much bigger than me. He was not only taller but much heavier too. I preferred avoiding fights, but he didn’t.

So, one day, against my better judgement, we faced off. Even though he had both the height and weight advantage, he decided he needed a rock to face me. After it was all over, I did have a bruise over my eye. A small wound compared to what he left with. Oddly, he never bothered me after that.

Unfortunately, after reaching high school, most everyone caught up with me in height and, of course, I was still skinny. That was when I learned a little of tact. Still, there were those who wanted to prove he was the better fighter.

Since those days, I spent a little time in the Marines and bulked up a little. I have hardly been confronted by bullies since then. There was one that wanted to fight me one night. Though he was much bigger, he was about to make a mistake. He was, well, should we say, inebriated. You might say, one good rule for any bully would be to avoid fights while under the influence. In this case, his girlfriend talked him out of it.

Thinking back over it, Jesus actually has some sound advice for bullies as well. Even though I am sure he never quite meant it that way, a bully should still pay heed to it.

“Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand?” Luke 14:31Berean Study Bible.

Of course Jesus was speaking of kings and going to war. Still, it does seem to be a good idea for bullies to avoid trying to start fights with people who are bigger than them. Moreover, they might also stay away from those who have spent nine years in the Marines. Just a suggestion. Had that man tried to fight with me, he might have hurt me, but if I hit him once, they would have carried him away in a stretcher. He was bigger. I would have had to use whatever I knew to stop him.

However, if I may, let me get back to what Jesus was talking about, warring between nations. As the implication is, even warring nations prefer to find weaker nations, as did Hitler at the beginning of his endeavors. His error was when he started going after the more powerful ones. Or as the Japanese admiral said after attacking Perl Harbor, “I’m afraid we have waken a sleeping giant.”

My conclusion from all the above is, if you don’t like war, keep yourself strong and powerful. The others may not like you but neither will they fight you. This of course means keeping any enemy from from infiltrating our borders. One enemy inside our borders can do far more damage than ten outside. Even worse, we might not be able to tell who sent him.

At this point there are many who would like to attack us and they can all take advantage of the open border Joe has provided them. The enemy needn’t fight his way in. All he need do is walk in.

The Bully

The leaders of Iran are nothing more than two-bit bullies.  They are throwing their weight around, such as it is.  There are two ways to deal with bullies.  Ideally, you ignore them.  Sometimes that is not an option.  When they kill people, especially when they threaten to kill people in mass, then it is time to use the second method, or at least make the threat.

Iran has threatened to eliminate Israel.  Soon, if permitted, they will gain the ability to do that.  It means preventing that, no matter what it takes.  Moreover, we need to make sure they realize our intentions.  That means, in the long run, we need to make sure they don’t get a nuclear bomb or the means to deliver it.

In the short term, we need to watch them carefully.  The instant they start flexing what little muscle they have, we need to retaliate and quickly.  We need to make them pay for their stupidity.

That does not mean that we send in troops.  Most likely, there would be no need.  Simply a few well placed conventional bombs would be all that would be needed.  Depending on what they do or threaten to do, ten to thirty bombs would be all that would be needed to send them a message.

It wouldn’t be the purpose to win a war.  It is simply important that we remind them that we have the means and the determination to deal with them.  That doesn’t mean that they suddenly behave themselves.  It is just important that they know each time they strike,  we will counterstrike significantly harder.

Sometimes, it is the only way a bully will learn.  You see, most bullies have are hard of hearing.  Sometimes, it takes three or four lessons, but, eventually, they will learn.  It is better than sending in troops.  It will let them know that we can strike by pressing a few buttons.  Oddly, it is better for them too.  If we have to send troops in, their losses will be far more.

This has another benefit.  In the unlikely event that we would have to send in troops, our army would probably would not encounter much resistance.  Also, if we need to send in troops, they should have one objective, the oil fields.  Without their oil, what little threat they have would be suddenly removed.

The most important part, we need to “bluff” them and then stand ready to fully back the bluff.  There would be another advantage of this method.  Bullies, worldwide, will know that we mean what we say.  It will drastically decrease the need to send our troops anywhere again.
