At What Point?

There must be a point, that is to say a line, or in other words, some threshold over which the Arabic peoples might cross where they should be recognized by free people, by free countries and by people who simply have a brain in their heads as terrorists, as killers, or in other words, very bad.

And yes. I just said all that in one sentence. Can you imagine what I might say in two? Incidentally, for some reason, it would seem that they can do as they wish to any extreme and the Hamas would still be the victims in minds of some, that is, assuming they have one.

Right and Wrong

Daily writing prompt
What principles define how you live?

Though I frequently fail, I try to do what is wright and avoid doing that which is wrong. It is almost always that the easier, more desirable is wrong. If I realize I have done something wrong, I try to admit it, first to myself and then to others.

On the other hand, our president seems to have it backward. After doing what he knows is wrong, he refuses to admit, certainly not to himself.

The Alternative

As I drive my Nissan electric car, I do find it enjoyable. The other day, I had turned off the radio and for got about it. I had gone several miles before I realized it. Other than the slight whisper of air coming from the vents, there was no sound at all.

Well, I guess there was a little. You don’t normally notice such things in most cars, but, believe it or not, tires do make noise, especially at higher speeds. There is also the wisp of air going by. I never really paid attention to that sort of thing before.

I did turn my sound system on. I do have an AM/FM radio and a USB drive hooked up. Those folks at Sirius keep trying to get me to subscribe, but they are more of a bother than the noise made by my precious car.

The thing is, before I turned the sound system back on, I drove several miles and listened to the quiet. I guess I could say was listening to the silence, but someone already came up with that idea. The thing is a person really does not know the benefit of silence until they don’t hear it.

However, there is an alternative to the use of any kind of battery to produce electricity. It’s called a fuel cell. Unlike my current electric car, cars that run on fuel cells need not be charged. The have a tank in which you store hydrogen. Some versions also have oxygen tanks. The fuel cells are extremely efficient and they don’t make any noise either.

When I first heard of the idea fuel cells, I was very concerned about the hydrogen. Let’s face it. I don’t think there is anything in this world more volatile than hydrogen. And when it burns, it burns hot and fast. You might even say it explodes.

It would mean that there safety factors would have to be designed into the car. The tank would have to be strong and double lined. If the car was involved in an accident, you would not want it to catch fire. Indeed, perhaps, a reason they have not already gone to fuel cells is the possible hazards.

My first thought was, what if you have a leak. Actually, it would be a problem to the pocket book, but not safety. Hydrogen is the very lightest element. It would float away so fast it would likely not catch fire.

I must admit, the accident problem is a real one. As remote as the chances might be, should the tank somehow get set aflame, it would cause danger for, perhaps hundreds of feet around.

However, these batteries we are using now are pretty dangerous too. Some even suggest charging them some distance from your house. If a car with the lithium batteries were to be involved in an accident, the flames just might be almost as bad as the hydrogen.

I’m not an expert. However, now and then I hear about stuff. A few months ago, a cargo ship caught fire. The ship was carrying electric cars, and from what I understand, the flames were sudden and large. If a car was at fault, it was just sitting there. It was not even in an accident.

By the way, there are two more big benefits with fuel cells and hydrogen. First, the exhaust is water so pure you just might be able to drink it. If I remember right, it just simply drips from a pipe and onto the road. Also, it is plentiful. Though mostly it is combined with oxygen, it is the most available element on this earth. We would not have to go digging big holes in the ground to get it. Moreover, no one nation or person could have any monopoly on it.

Now let me see. What did I do with that deed to that old hydrogen mine have.

Just so We Get This Straight

I’d like to ask this one question, just to clarify things.

Just how many Israelis attacked Hamas? Oh, that would be zero.

I would like to inquire just how started this war?

May I as how many babies did the Israelis kill prior to the attack? I’m not real sure, but I think that would be zero. The Jews certainly did not cut off the heads of any babies, nor did they intentionally burn any.

Do you suppose someone can tell me, just how many rockets were sent toward Israel before Israel retaliated with just one. My best guess…right around 100, likely a few more.

No one, but no one is responsible for the loss of one life over there in the Middle East other than Hamas. It is as Netanyahu said. “If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons, there would be no more Israel.”

The truth is that it’s not peace that the Hamas want. It’s the Hebrew land…all of it. As the Jews send in troops and weapons into the Gaza strip, it would be wise to remember this.

In very little time there will be those trying to talk Israel into a cease fire. I don’t recall anyone saying any such thing to the Hamas. Does the outrage stop the instant the Jews have killed as many Hamas as the number of Jews killed by Hamas? Is that the way it works?

The death will only stop when Hamas realizes that they will pay a much larger price for their terrorizing than that which they cause on the Jews. I am not sure it will stop then.

Until the world, especially the UN, gets that straight, peace will be nothing more than a five letter word.

Practice Makes Perfect

From my early youth, I have heard the expression. Yet, today I can attest to one and all that it is not completely true. How many times do you suppose an infielder, since his days in Little League practiced the throw to first base. Then, even in the pros, he throws one so high the first base man can’t reach it. Maybe practice makes a person good at something, but even then, only if it is practiced properly. Invariably, one thing many have trouble with is to unlearn the bad habits, both in baseball and in life, which they learn in their youth. And, by the way, the bad habits are well practiced.

One of the things we learned in the Marines on the rifle range was to practice, practice, practice. However, every second, they had a PMI standing over me correcting me the instant I started to practice something wrong.

I used the rifle range example for two reasons. A bad practice can mean missing the target, but a bad safety habit can lead to wounds or even death. It might seem a simple thing, but the first thing I was taught was to keep my rifle pointed downrange. That way, even if I should make the mistake of not following some other safety rule, no one will get hurt.

It is a practice that I hold to this day over all these years, even though it was years since I left the Marines. If I never point a weapon where it might hurt someone, then it won’t hurt anyone should it go off. Well, it mostly works. I can tell of examples where it didn’t. That is why they have other safety rules, like don’t play fast draw with a gun, loaded or not.

Actually, I have gotten way off of my intended subject. It was a subject that was brought to mind today as I saw a woman, likely a little older than me, coughing like crazy. I watched to make sure she recovered. In a while she was okay and back to normal.

However, it did remind me. The woman had likely swallowed and choked. We all do it. I do, and I have had an awful lot of practice. I have been swallowing for 73 years and it seems I get it wrong more frequently now than when I was 40.

It is something we don’t think about much, but we all swallow no telling how many times a day. Certainly we swallow our food. However, from time to time we swallow just because we feel a need to. We have all practiced it so much that we do it without thinking. Then, when we mess up and do it wrong, we are reminded that we need to do it right. Maybe, from time to time, we need to remind ourselves to, not only practice, but practice it right, especially while eating.

Now that I am done with this, I need to go out and practice some more… the battle with the weeds.

The World’s 2nd Most Important Invention

Of course we all know what the world’s most important invention is, the wheel. There is simply nothing that is used so much everyday in so many ways. It’s a shame there were no patent offices back then.

Oh yes, the second most important. We all know that. I use mine so frequently every day, I simply can’t keep track. Of course, it is the mute button. Not one advertiser can get their childish ads past my mute button, that is, assuming another invention holds up – the battery.

And I never leave my eazy chair.

Yard Work

Daily writing prompt
What have you been putting off doing? Why?

I was keeping up with it till this stupid virus. I got it, got over it and got it again. Took me a long time to build up my strength again. Truth be told, I am still not completely recovered. I don’t know if I ever will.

I managed to keep up with the front, more or less, but the weeds got almost 6 feet high in back. I work on it about an hour a day, as the heat permits. At 73, I just can’t stand up to the heat as I did.

Oddly my electric trimmer does most of the work but I do all the sweating. After an hour, I retreat inside and it takes well over an hour to recover. I huff and puff and drink the ice water.

About one more week, I will have the weeds under control, but there will be no grass till spring. Too late this year. Now, mostly dirt.

It’s the problem with weeds. They don’t care about reasons or excuses. You give them a chance…

Who is at Fault?

Almost one week ago, Hamas started an attack on Israel. Since that time, every life lost was the fault of Hamas or their terrorists friends. Regardless of who pulled trigger, all the blood is on their hands.

And by the way, I would say Old Joe put in his 2 cents but it is actually 6 billion dollars, which he provided by way of Iran. And now he and his are quickly busy trying to deny it. However, he can’t. We all saw him do it. Even most of the media admits it.

To be sure his hands are in the innocent blood all the way to his elbows. Worse, he doesn’t care. His only concern is that he was caught.

Odd, as in Strange

I just became aware that North Korea is supplying weapons to Russia. I consider this very odd, considering it was not that long ago that the Soviets were the big supplier, not just to North Korea, but all over the world.

I don’t absolutely know it’s true. I mean, I am having to rely on our media on this. & of course, I am very much aware the news from our media is every bit as reliable as was Pravda, the former Soviet news agency.

Still, if true, it would be an indicator that Pravda would never want to admit. It would show just how much of a failure communism was & is everytime it’s tried.

It begs the question, if it failed so horribly there, why pursue communism elsewhere? This especially when freedom based capitalism has been such a success.
