Two Lives

Two young men. Maybe two young women. One has been killed by a bullet; the other by a drug sold by a drug dealer. Which one is more dead? Which death causes more grief. Which brother or sister will be missed the more.

Many call selling drugs a non-violent crime. I ask, what’s the difference between the bullet and the pill?

I get it. Guns are terrifying. While I was not one that ran through the rice paddies of S. Vietnam, I did carry an M16 with me everywhere I went for nearly a year. I did have to wear a flak jacket and helmet. I carried four magazines with twenty rounds each ready to use. I was aware that a bullet could have come out of the dark and end my life at just almost any time with no warning whatsoever. I did know some who took bullets while serving.

However, drugs, today cause far more death and sorrow daily in this country than all the guns. Truth be known, much of the death caused by guns is also caused by drug abuse. Those dealers must protect their territories.

Yet, Old Joe just never talks about drug abuse or the folks who sell the poison. Maybe it would be because he’d have to admit failure on the border, which by the way, is intentional. However, let just one person kill or harm another by gun, and immediately, he is in front of a camera and mic explaining how we must rid our country of those evil guns. Not a word about incarcerating those who use them.

An Experiment for the Brave Atheist

As I was sitting at Golden Corral this afternoon, getting ready to eat, a thought occurred to me. Maybe I just thought of it. Perhaps the thought was supernaturally planted in my mind. I don’t know. The thought was an experiment for atheist. I say atheist because, well, it just might work. I don’t know.

I say for the brave atheist because it just might work. The atheist just might come to the realization that God really does exist. Then, he will be forced into a decision he, or she would really prefer to ignore. It will take something of a little courage to take on my experiment.

However, if the atheist is right in his belief, then he has lost nothing. If he is firm in his belief and he is right, he can go on living as he has. On the other hand, if something happens that makes him doubt his religion in that there is no God; If, suddenly, he realizes that he has been wrong; then he must change his beliefs. He can still deny God, but he will have to accept that God really does exist. He will never again be an atheist.

The experiment is simple and takes just a few minutes a day. For one month, whenever you sit down to a meal, let’s say three times a day, you say this little prayer before eating, “Thank you, God for this food that you have provided. Please bless it to the nourishment of my body. Forgive me of my sins. In Jesus name; amen.”

I know it is ritualistic and God would rather the prayer be from your heart. However, it is something of a start. If you feel led to add to it, that’s fine with me. Just, please be respectful in any case.

Your comments are welcomed and encouraged. Perhaps some of my readers would like to see them too. As long as the comments are respectful and without profanity, I will allow them.

Oh. Just one more thing. Maybe you atheists are not the only ones who need to try this experiment. Maybe a few Christians need to try it, too. God does like it when we honestly express our appreciation for that which he has done for us. To be sure, I am guilty. For years, I took Him and what He did for me for granted. I’m doing a little better these days. Still, an hour or two after I had a nice big meal, I occasionally realize I did not voice my appreciation. I guess He knows I’m human. Still, if it’s important, I’ll remember it… and it is important to me.

A Little-Known Fact

The phone company notified me that they will be giving money to the LGBTQ+ youth bunch. Moreover, they are encouraging me to do the same. Obviously, they don’t know me.

I am under contract restrictions so I will stay with the same company for a while, then no more. They didn’t see fit to ask me. They simply did it. I would suspect it is part of the new encouragement by Old Joe to get corporations to be friendly to social, environmental, and governmental ideas instead of just making money. I am sure the phone company is thinking they will come out ahead because of the better way they will be treated by Old Joe’s administration. However, their thinking is very short sighted and likely pretty dumb. You see; I suspect I am not the only one who does not believe in giving money to such things. I suspect that I will not be the only one jumping to another provider.

You see, they might be making Joe happy, but some of us don’t like things such as what the dems are pushing these days and calling sex ed. Moreover, Joe will not be around much longer. Even should he be re-elected, the man is getting old. As the Bible says, it is appointed to man once to die. (Hebrews 9:27) I certainly suspect his time is right around the corner. As it is said, he is living on borrowed time. And may I remind those from the phone outfit, they need to think of their mortality too. The same Bible passage also says that after that, the judgment.

Well, I’m sure the phone company will never miss those of us who leave because they decided to mix politics with business. Seems to me, the one guy said best. Republicans do buy tennis shoes too. I suppose that some phone company officials think republicans don’t use cell phones.

There Is a Difference

If I may….

There is a difference between Former President Trump and Joe Biden

Since before his election, the House, the media, the Clintons, and the Justice Department have been trying to hang some crime on Trump, some of which are not even crimes.  Collusion is not a crime.  For well over seven years, they have all given it their best shot.  While they have gotten indictments and two impeachments, they have not one conviction, not even in the media.  Moreover, it has been determined that many of the accusations were groundless, even illegal.  Technically, they should have never seen the light of day. Technically, those who brought them should serve time for their crimes.

On the other hand, Hunter Biden now stands guilty of three crimes.  He admitted to them after about two, maybe two and half years of investigation.  The media, the Justice Department and Congress have done all they can to keep it from happening.  It is an indicator.  First, the man is guilty.  Second, he is likely far more guilty of far more than he is admitting to.  After all, deals are usually made by the defense to avoid greater punishment.  Third, I wonder just how much power does the man have over his father.  After all, he does know where the bodies are buried.  He could be saying, “If I go to prison, so will you.”

Forth, and likely the worst of it all.  Just, how much was Joe personally involved in protecting his son?  What has he done to keep his son’s name out of the media, out of courts and him out of prison?

Finally, just how much collusion was he involved with in with Hunter’s dirty dealings.

As a simple aside, where did he gain his fortune on a senator’s pay?

Trump acquired his fortune in private life.  Biden acquired his as a public servant.  You figure it out.  There is a difference.

Incidentally, they never acquired any real proof of Trump colluding with anyone, though there was one particular congressman that claimed he did have some. Do you suppose the congressman lied, maybe a little. Maybe a lot. Maybe frequently. I am sure he would have presented the proof if he had it. Yet, after the investigation was done, he remains silent. He has presented not one element of proof. How quickly some forget.

As an afterthought, many states have gotten wise with driving under the influence laws. People no longer get breaks because they were driving drunk. They pay the same penalties as if they were driving sober as well as penalties for DUI. Hunter Biden claims he was under the influence. Should not make any difference in court. He chose to take the drugs and he chose to commit the crimes. He should not get any breaks. It is ridiculous to get a break for doing something illegal because he was doing something illegal, like drug abuse. With his plea, he is not even getting punished for his drug abuse, though he admitted to it.

Considering a Risky Decision

Got my car insurance bill a few days ago. I looked at it and filed the mental note to pay it before it elapses. Then, i considered it again.

Generally, I drive one place each day, maybe two. Don’t really need to but I do. Then, I considered; do I really need a car. I mean we really pay an awfully lot for the convenience of wheels.

The other day, drove into Firestone, spent the whole day there and drove out over a grand lighter. Mind, I’m not complaining about Firestone. They did very well for a reasonable price. The thing is that I need at least 1500 more to fix axles, air conditioning and who knows how many more problems lurking out of sight.

It’s just getting awfully expensive to keep up a car when I now drive about 10, maybe 15 miles a day.

Oh yes. Let’s not forget the price of fuel. Thanks to Joe, we all feel a bit lighter as we drive away from the gas pumps. Let me clarify that. Financially lighter. I must admit the fuel is heavier, but not much.

Indeed, maybe, I should take the hint from OLD Joe and start bicycling everywhere I go. I figure I might save 2 or 3 thousand a year. Considering we are living totally on Social Security, that is a lot. Fact is – that’s a bunch for most all of us. To be sure, it’s even more for those who have far more than me. After all, they must buy their Lincolns, Cadillacs, and or, their BMWs. They pay more for their vehicles, more for their insurance and, likely more for their maintenance.

Going to a bicycle as my transport is not a decision taken lightly. I mean, bicycles are more dangerous. We don’t normally wear helmets in cars, not yet anyway. However, we and our children are firmly cautioned against going to the local convenience store without something to protect our noggin.

Therefore, I must assume that it would be quite dangerous to abandon my 4 wheels for 2.

So. Before I decide, I’m sure you realize, I have very much to consider. Money is not everything. Safety is a factor as well. Someone in one of those big cars just might hit me. I’m afraid the helmet would provide little protection.

Faith?

The story I am about to write is true. It has been told untold numbers of times. It is one of my favorites.

It seems there was a man, Peter who was locked up in prison. He was chained to two guards to make sure he’d not escape. In the church where Peter preached were many who prayed for Peter, that he might be rescued.

At night, an angel visited Peter. The guards were sleeping, and the angel told Peter to follow him. Then, immediately, the chains fell open and walking, Peter followed the angel.

Then, once Peter was free, he went to the house of one of the church members, whose name was Mary. He knocked on the door of the gate and a woman, Rhoda answered it. When she recognized Peter’s voice, instead of letting him in, went to announce the arrival of Peter.

They told Rhoda, “Your are beside yourself.” For those unaware, that is sort like saying she was mistaking. It’s sort of like saying your nuts. In other words, they didn’t believe her,

But Rhoda insisted. Those in the house said, “It is Peter’s angel,” assuming him to be dead.

Peter, of course, was somewhat wondering that no one opened the door. So he continued to knock.

Now here is the really neat part, the part I really like. When they opened the door and saw Peter standing there, they were astonished.

Now, to be honest, I did skip a few parts. To read the whole story as it was written, read Act 12 :1 to 16 or perhaps as much as 18.

I guess I have read the story a few dozen times and I still wonder, after all the praying, why were they astonished? Why did they not expect Peter to show up. Maybe they should have even had some kind of a welcome home party ready.

They prayed to God, expecting an answer. They got their answer and yet, according to the Bible, they were astonished.

I guess we can’t really hold the new Christians too much at fault. After all, it was just a short time earlier when they became Christians. Moreover, God, when he decides to, can amaze even the most devout follower.

Moreover, I guess it is kind of an object lesson. When we pray earnestly, maybe we should expect an answer, regardless of how unlikely. And, by the way, regardless of the power of the king (government) they really can’t keep us chained up should God decide to let us go.

Shelby County Schools

Understand Shelby County schools is looking for a superintendent. Been looking for one for about a year now. One thing is certain, the new one won’t be very good. It’s kind of the history of it all. They haven’t had a good super for the last 30 years that I have lived here.

Used to be the Memphis City schools. The city realized they couldn’t run a school system, so they dissolved city schools, which resulted in the same folks how ran the city schools are now running the county schools. Naturally, they run the county schools just as badly as the ran the city schools.

It’s no wonder that most cities in Shelby County that could, formed their own school systems. By the way, the little cities seem to be doing very well while the county is FAILING miserably. It seems that they can’t even teach their students to read and write.

It’s not just my opinion. It’s history. It is borne out in test score after test score. It is also borne out in in the exodus of people from Shelby County schools. They seem to be confirming my opinion with their feet; or in this case, I guess their citizenship. Many come here south of the state line. Many have moved north, which invariably means a longer commute to work. Some go to Arkansas, which means crossing one of two bridges each morning on the way to work. It is, perhaps a reason we need a third bridge. I’d guess not so many move east of the county. I suspect it is better to move to one of the cities in eastern Shelby County.

Sure hope I’m wrong this time. Somehow, I just don’t think it will happen. They’ve been practicing the wrong methods so long they just don’t know any other way.

Incidentally, I do have an idea or two, but I don’t think they want to pay any attention to me. Certainly, right at the top, put the priority in requiring teachers to teach… the important things. They really don’t need to get involved in all the garbage being passed down from DC. Also, if their students are don’t learn, fire them. Obviously, they aren’t doing their job. Why should they be paid for doing nothing?

Helmets

Seems every time I turn around, they are coming up with new safety requirements. For some time, I wondered why we are not yet required to wear helmets while riding in cars. Without a doubt, they would help safety. Not only would they save lives, but they would cut down on concussions and eye injuries.

The hitch of course is that it would be necessary to keep a few helmets handy, perhaps in the trunk. You would want to make sure you had helmets for all your passengers, as if they would want to wear them.

For years, my question was, just why haven’t they started having requirements for them. Then it came to me. Wish I could say I thought of it, but I heard it on the radio. Made perfect sense. I mean there are some things that take priority even over safety.

As of yet, they have not come up with a helmet that will not mess up a woman’s hairdo. Until they do, the helmet will remain an option for cars, one rarely used.

Communism Is Not the Answer

If communism is not the answer, what’s the question? It does not matter what the problem is; communism won’t fix it. It will only make it worse. In general, when a nation goes to communism, the problem gets worse. A few rich people, which I call controllers will seek to control everything that is done, everything that is said and thought. It is not a guess. History is full of one example after the other. Even the Soviet Union collapsed with all the iron fist leaders. Just look at what Cuba has become under Castro. May I remind you, he was a dictator, a controller. His greatest desire was to control, and he did. People are running from Venezuela as fast as they can, another country run by a controller that claims that it is communism. The government in Venezuela is not communism but a dictatorship.

Even those that preach to you that communism will fix everything know better. They have no intention of setting up a true communist government. They know it won’t work. However, they also know that idealists really love the idea. Hence, it gives the controller an opportunity, a chance to rule. Then, conceivably after they rule a country, they can go on to rule another. Eventually, as with all controllers, the idea is to rule the world. It is as old as the Babylonians, the Greeks, the Romans. They just use different methods. They dangle the reward in front of the people while all the time taking their freedoms from them. Not too many have managed to regain their freedom once it has been taken. Though the Soviets have lost control, Putin still rules. He is the controller, and every person does as he says or else. He made sure that freedom in his country would not continue to rule.

Nothing new. Not an answer. Just another problem.
