John Kasich: a Disappointment

If I may paraphrase an old Far side comic, it would appear that John Kasich is out standing in his field or so he would have us think.

It is a shame that he has turned out the way he is.  I used to have a great deal of respect for the man, until he ran for president.  Then he became very angry because candidate Trump beat him badly.

The truth of the matter is that Donald Trump beat him fair and square.  He said that he would build a fence on our southern border.  Kasich said he would do the same thing everyone else did, nothing.

The fact is that there were but two candidates that said anything at all about stemming the flow of illegal aliens across the border.  As it turned out, when all the rest fell by the wayside, there were but two left.  Both wanted to stop the flow of illegal aliens.  They were the only two who did.

The flat out truth is that the Republicans never presented a better candidate.  They, all of them, have nothing to blame but themselves.  Donald Trump saw what the people wanted.  He knew what needed to be done to improve things.  Then that was what he promised.  Then, unlike the others, he actually carried through with the promises, this ever though there were some in his own party who fought him.

What Kasich must realize is that when you don’t want the things the voters want, you stand a good chance of losing, and he did.  Not only did he lose but he lost badly.  Apparently, he didn’t get the message.

Now, instead of learning, he has become a belligerent never-Trumper.  As I said, he has become a disappointment.  He did look like a good Republican.  Now, he seems to be another one of those guys who tries to please everyone.  So he stands out in the field, at a crossroad like the scarecrow in “The Wizard of Oz” pretending that all roads lead to the great Oz.

Only the road is not made of gold bricks and none of them lead to the land of Oz.  He prefers the likes of Biden over President Trump and that says a lot about him, all bad.

The Obvious Question

I don’t understand it.  The question is obvious and, yet, no one asks it.

You ask a gun control fanatic what we should do if someone enters our home and threatens us and they reply, “Call the police.”  This they do in spite of two facts.  One, without a means to defend myself, I might not be able to call anyone.  Also, of course, it will likely take 4 to 6 minutes for them to get to my house.

When a man broke into my house, I was fortunate.  Firstly, the police only took three minutes…after the call.  (They happened to be a few blocks away) That’s close to five minutes from when he broke in.  Secondly, I had two dogs that scared the man off.  Oddly, when he saw my 60 pound pets, he was more scared of them than I was of his gun.

Now, the liberals have decided to de-fund the police.  Some idiots actually want to completely want to get rid of them completely.

So… and here’s the question we all ought to ask, if I have no gun, just who am I supposed to call when a couple of characters break in carrying 9 millimeter handguns?  You get rid of my gun, I can’t defend myself.  You get rid of the cops, the best I can do is to rely on my dogs.

The truth of the matter is, first they want to get rid of our guns.  Second, they want to take our freedom from us.  They do that the same way protection rackets do.  The promise to protect us if we give up our freedom.  The bad thing is… it just might work.

Blind, Sort of

My wife and I went to dinner with my son and his wife.  I took out my glasses, which were the expensive type.  The lenses were progressive.  The more I tilted my head back, the greater was the magnification.  Today, I’ve given up on them.  My eyes have degraded to the point they don’t help much.

At any rate, I took one look at the menu and got quite a fright.  I said aloud that there must be something wrong with my eyes.  I couldn’t read the menu.

My son laughed and said, “You’re missing one of your lenses.”

Okay.  That was a relief.  Sure enough, when I removed my glasses and inspected them, it was easy to see that one of the lenses was missing.  Fortunately, it had fallen out while the glasses were in my glasses case.  When I shook it a few times, the lens fell out.  With a little effort, I persuaded the lens to take its place and I was able to easily read the menu.

In the third chapter of John, Jesus said, “Unless a man be born again, he shall not see the Kingdom of God.”

Today, we don’t give the statement its proper respect.  We hear a person is a born again Christian and we pay it little attention.  However, we should realize the situation for Nicodemus, the man to whom Jesus was talking.  He had never heard the expression before and he was genuinely confused.

With the one statement, Jesus had managed to accomplish three things, that is besides the confusion.  First, he stated a fact, one that is just as true today as it was then.  It is just as true for us as it was for Nicodemus.  Unless a man is born of the Holy Spirit, he will not see the Kingdom of God.

Second, he got Nicodemus’s attention.  Sometimes, a little confusion is good.  It piques the curiosity and causes us to pay attention.  To be sure; Jesus had Nicodemus’s undivided attention.

Third, it challenged Nicodemus’s pride.  Pride is a bad thing.  God hates it especially because it can and frequently does get in the way of our salvation.  Because of pride, we don’t believe we need salvation.  Because of pride we think we can provide for our own salvation.  Because of pride, some people believe they have no need of God.  Jesus was dealing with the pride that separated Nicodemus from salvation, both here and in the following verses.

If I may, I would like to return to Jesus’s first accomplishment, the statement of fact.  With the one statement, Jesus excluded many from The Kingdom of God.  To be sure, most are far too proud to be born again.  Many don’t believe it is needed.  Far too many think of it as optional.  Some even think it is dumb.

Jesus said it is mandatory.  Like it or not, that is the way it is.  God makes the rules.  Jesus, the Son of God made it clear for one and all.  You have choice.  Accept his word and be born of the Spirit or don’t believe, which will result in an eternity Hell.  If you let your pride get in the way, it is not of God’s doings.  It is your own choice.

Finally, as a side note, I would like to relate one more observation.  I have had arguments with people who were not born again, that is people who did not accept Jesus as their Savior.  I could never understand why they could not understand something I could see so clearly.

…and then it hit me.  People who are not born again cannot see anything wrong with abortion because they cannot see the Kingdom of God.  They do not see the unborn child as a life.  As with my loss of a lens, they cannot see God’s Kingdom because God had not given them spiritual vision.  All they see is the worldly view.

Now, you ask, do I see the Kingdom of God?  Well, yes.  However, my spiritual vision is far from 20/20.  To me it is still blurry.  There are still many things in this world I don’t understand.  I can actually make you a list of them.  However, one day I will see them all clearly.  God will give me perfect spiritual vision and I will understand it all.

As for those who aren’t born again, they will understand it all too, but from a different perspective.  At that point, they will have a different attitude of pride.  Unfortunately, it will be too late.  If you have heard this all before, then you are already getting a second chance, or maybe a third.  You haven’t a reason to ask for another chance.  You’ve already had a dozen or so.

One more thing.  Unfortunately, we who are born again must live under laws that are made by people lacking spiritual vision.  It is, of course why millions of children have been slaughtered in the womb.  It is, of course, why none of us is able to get through to those making the laws.  To this, there are two solutions.  Vote Christians into office.  Bring others to Jesus.  Help them see the importance of being born again.  It is not just for them, but for all of us.  It is especially good for those who cannot speak for themselves.

All the Requirements

It would appear that Kamala Harris has all the requirements that Biden was looking for to be his running mate.  She is female, Black, and she is willing to toe the dummycrat line, even if she doesn’t believe in it.

It does bring up the question.  Has she decided to toe the line because it was what she believes or because she wants the job?  The again, maybe someone made her an offer… like the presidency after Biden’s first term.

On the other hand, why wait for him to complete the first term.  It seems to me as if I remember an amendment that allows a president to be removed from office if he is unfit.  Seems to me that they might have tried to use it on the current POTUS.

Considering Biden’s mind, it ought not be difficult to prove him unfit.  Then she can just shuffle into the White House, just as she originally intended.

Either way, she just might be thinking ahead.  Everyone knows it is easier for a current present to be reelected.  It would certainly give her a leg up in 2024.  Her primary would very likely go much smoother.

I don’t have any inside track on the matter.  Just, so to speak, thinking aloud.  Still, if Biden were to be elected, it might be nice to see how things unfold once he takes the oath of office.  Meanwhile, during the time between when he takes office and when she takes over, it would give a new meaning to a driver-less car.

Old Folks and Old Eyes

I am now 72.  To tell you the truth, I never figured I would make it this far.  Among other things, I had 4 bypasses during 1 procedure — over 10 years ago.  Those in the know realize that makes it about time for me have more problems.

However, what I am writing about here has nothing to do with my heart, but my eyes.  Until I was 40, I had very good eyes.  In fact, if I don’t need to focus my eyes on anything closer than three feet away, I still have good eyes.  Anything closer than 2 feet and I have some real problems.  Every time I need to read the instructions on how to microwave a dinner, I have to get a magnifying glass.  With the print size they use for instructions, my reading glasses aren’t strong enough.  I wonder if those people that make those things realize that.

At any rate, I sat down to my computer the other day, without my glasses.  Mostly I could read it.  Still there were parts of the screen where I needed to squint.  It irritated me because I left my reading glasses in the other room.  Worse, the one part of the screen I wanted to read, I couldn’t.

It forced me to leave the computer and walk to the other end of the house to get my reading glasses.  The thought gave me an idea.  I don’t know.  Maybe someone already thought of it.  It would be sort of nice if one portion of the screen could be displayed at 2 or 3 times normal size.  I’m not sure how it could all be worked out, but I think us old folks might really appreciate it.

In the meantime, I guess I will need to rely on the old methods.  I went out and bought a large magnifying and tied it to my screen.  That way, I won’t have to deal with another problem I have after getting old, a bad memory.  I already lost two magnifiers.

No Fence Needed?

For years, I’ve been writing about the need of a good tall fence on the southern border.  It would seem I have been proved wrong.  Biden has figured out a way of discouraging illegal immigrants far more effective than I could have ever dreamed.

I figure it this way.  If Biden were to be elected to president, after 4 years of him in office, they would all be headed south… and not all of them would illegal aliens.  I figure many American citizens would be right behind them.  Also, some would head to Canada, those who don’t much care for the Mexican climate.

All those Cubans who risked life and limb to get here would be hiring boats to take them back to their former home.  All those Hollywood stars who threatened to go to Canada if Trump were to become president….  They would move to Canada, or Europe, or maybe Australia, or maybe Timbuktu.  (That’s in Mali, Africa, just in case you don’t know)

Everything will work out well, except there will not be anyone left in the US other than the government.  All the tax payers, all the labor, all the teachers and all the engineers will have moved somewhere else.  The government will be able to do anything they want as long as it doesn’t require money.  They could, of course, just print it but no one will know how.

They can forget about going anywhere by plane.  The pilots will have no reason to remain in the USA.  Other than the government, there will not be anyone left who will have a reason to fly.  As mentioned before, the government will lack the funds to pay.

There will be no concern about damage to the environment with oil drilling.  There won’t be any drilling.  Then again, there will be no oil.  I hope those windmills don’t break.  No one will be there to fix them.

Once that happens, maybe they will do as the governor of New York is doing now – begging for everyone to come back.  Indeed, the governor’s actions just might be a little prophetic.  When the government and the taxes get too high, everyone leaves.

The Scenario

I rather like the term Scenario.  The first time I heard it was when I watched the TV show, The Greatest American Hero.  Maybe this is not the most accurate place to use the word but, as I said, I like it.

This is what I suspect will be the scenario.  It might not be planned this way.  I am pretty sure no one has written it down.  However, I suspect that the plan is forming in the minds of some very influential people.

Sometime, in the next month or two, a group of men, or women, will approach Bidden with a plan.  Somehow he will become disabled.  Maybe he will lose his voice or maybe he will admit to hoof and mouth disease.  At any rate, he will be convinced that it is time for him to withdraw from the presidential race.  Then, of course, conveniently, they will have someone step in from the sidelines to take over for him.

You might wonder where I get the idea.  I wonder how in the world they can let him continue.  One debate and Biden will be so confused he won’t know what state he is in, or what office he is running for.  (Wait a minute.  I guess that already happened.)

So, before the first debate, they will need to replace him.  My only question at this point is who will replace him?  Will it be Hillary?  Maybe it will be Bernie.  I’m not sure, but I think both of them are too old.  Just who do they have waiting to step in?

I suppose Obama’s wife might step in, but I don’t think she wants too.  Even so, they might try to talk her into it but for one thing.  She would never stand up to the scrutiny.  Not only would she have to answer for Obama’s lies but also for her own dumb ideas.  I am certain that they would lose the votes of almost all those working in school cafeterias.  Also, some of those students forced to eat that healthy food will be of voting age now.  Do you really think she will get their vote?

Regardless of who they decide to put in in Biden’s place, they do have some obstacles to deal with.  First, they might have some problems getting Biden to cooperate.  He might throw a fit.  He might demand a fortune or two.  Then again, he just might dig in and refuse.  If he does that, then what will they do?

However they manage to talk him out of it, they will have to talk the democrats into it.  Besides, Bernie will likely pitch a fit.  He will decide it’s his turn.  Besides, he came in second.  He ought to get the nod.

I suppose, to some degree, there will be others who believe they should be the ones to rise to throne.  Some might have a small reason or two.

The thing is.  The problem is.  They just don’t have anyone waiting in the wings that can beat President Trump and they know it.

Maybe instead of calling this The Scenario, I should have called it The Conundrum.

The Inoculations

In these days when we speak of getting a vaccine for the China virus, I am reminded of a time when we had the opportunity to see one of Rev. Billy Graham’s crusades hear in Memphis.  It was during that crusade that my older son gave his life to Christ at 8 years old.

It was at the Liberty Bowl and it was pretty full, despite the threat of bad weather.  Actually, it worked out for the best.  Because of the threat of bad weather, they decided to move it all inside to the nearby sports arena.  Then, the bad weather cleared and it was very pleasant.

So, Rev Graham spoke to a full sports arena.  Then, when done, he came over to the Liberty Bowl.  It was sort of a two for one.  I cannot speak of what the results were in the sports arena, but there were thousands that went forward to the platform they placed out on that football field.

When my son told me he wanted to go, I thought it was just because everyone else was.  After a short talk, I accompanied him down to the field and there, on that day, he was born again.  … and all I thought we were going to do was to see a great man speak.

Now what does that have to do with vaccines?  That night, Rev. Graham compared a vaccine with false religions.  When a person is given a vaccine, he becomes immune to the real thing.  When a person starts believing in a false religion, it will, to some degree, make him immune to the real thing.

In the case of vaccines, of course, that is a good thing.  In the case of false religion, it is a bad thing.  To be sure, it is far easier to lead a person to Christ when he knows nothing about religion.

Hence, one of the Devil’s favorite tricks is to get a person to believe in the false religion – the lie – knowing that it will make it more difficult to get him to believe truth.  That was, more or less what his message was that night.  I guess I can properly add that, once a person believes the truth, it also makes him immune to the lies.

My point is this.  If you have a religion you believe in, you might want to make sure it is the truth.  If it is not the truth, you need to find the truth and soon.

Now the question is, how do you know if you believe in a false religion.  There are three ways.

  1.  Make sure that what you believe can be validated by God’s Word, the Bible.  Many religions will show you the Bible and then set it on the shelf while they teach you from another book.  Moreover, some religions teach from one passage of the Bible and ignore the rest.  If someone tells you something, ask him to show it to you in the Bible.
  2. Fruit inspection.  Matthew 7:16 says that by their fruits you shall know them.  If the religion produces bad fruit, then the religion must be bad.  If the person speaking to you is corrupt, then, very likely what he is teaching is also likely corrupt.
  3. Finally, a person who teaches the truth will point to Jesus Christ, certainly not to himself.  Be suspicious of people who have large followings who don’t teach Christ and the cross.  It is what Paul taught.  It was what Peter taught the day of Pentecost (Acts, the second chapter).  Also, be suspicious when he teaches any of the following:
    a.  baptism or the Lord’s supper is mandatory for salvation.  May I remind you, the thief on the cross had no part in either.  Yet, by Jesus’ own words, we know that he went to heaven.  How much more assurance can a man have this side of death.
    b.  The infallibility of the leader(s).  Not one of us is perfect, not even the Pope.  Moreover, Jesus is the only person who took human form and is worthy of worship.  He is worthy because He is God.
    c.  Beware of those who put a lot of importance on ritual.  Jesus gave us two ordinances, the Lord’s supper and baptism.  They are followed in obedience, not as a requirement.  Yet we are warned to take part in them solemnly.  Baptism is a picture of our death and resurrection after we are saved.  The Lords supper is a picture of Christ dying and giving his life for our salvation.  There are no other rituals for Christians.
    d.  The requirement to give, in some cases, everything to an organizaton is not a biblical command.  Those who gave in the early church gave willingly, not by demand.
    e.  Think twice, or maybe three or four times when a religion teaches that theirs is the only true church.  Jesus is the only way.  He said as much.  However, in Revelation, he had something to say to seven churches, not one.
    f.  Finally, run from any religion that practices polygamy, self-destruction, or killing.

Believe it or not, God did give us a certain amount of common sense.  Real Christianity is common sense.  We sinned, so we earned death.  Jesus died for us so we don’t have to die.  It is a matter of choice.

If you never read another word in the Bible, read John 3:16-18

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

You might notice that Jesus was speaking to Nicodemus (a pharisee), but his words are far more inclusive.  Instead of using the word, “you” he use the word “whosoever.”  That even includes you.  It even means me.

All other religions are based on actions.  Christianity is based on faith… faith in Jesus as the Son of God.  You cannot earn salvation.  You cannot even help to earn your salvation.  That would require actions.  What Jesus said in the above verses had nothing to do with anything but faith.

Who is Controlling our Schools

I suspect most people would say that the school board and superintendent are the primary people who set policy and what is taught in our schools.  If you agree with that, think again.

There are two unions that control the schools.  No one gets hired or fired without their permission.  Nothing gets taught unless it meets their criteria.

…and of course, who controls the unions.  I’ll give you two guesses and the first one doesn’t count.  I will give you a hint.  They very likely contribute to one and only one political party… not the republicans.
