Where Are the Dimples?

I know that might sound like an odd question. Then again, I hope it grabs the attention of a few people. Nonetheless, it is a valid question. On an episode of Myth-busters, they went through a great deal of effort to prove a car is more efficient when the body has dimples all over it… like a golf ball.

There wasn’t much difference, but there was a measurable difference. I thought by now some engineer would pick up the idea and make cars with dimples. I know some research would be needed. The ideal size and quantity of dimples would need to be determined. Moreover, it might work better if the dimples were oval instead of round.

Then again, why stick to cars. Can you imagine how much fuel could be save with trucks. I figured some “going green” outfit would have noticed it and made a fortune off the idea already. For that matter, why aren’t the Myth-buster guys working on it. I mean there is a big world out there that really needs to be dimpled, like the sides of buildings to keep the wind resistance down as the wind goes blowing by them.

Someone in the yacht building industry should grab hold of the idea. Not only might it make the yachts more efficient but also faster. Speaking of making yachts faster, why doesn’t one or more of the America’s Cup teams take up the idea. One or two knots would make an enormous difference, or at least I would think so. Then again, it might be one of those visionary things. Does anyone want to be seen sailing a dimpled yacht.

I figure there must be a reason no one has done it. Am I the only one that saw the episode. Then again, maybe engineers don’t watch such things. I don’t know.

By the way, here’s one. A dimpled airplane. If it would save a barrel or two of fuel on each flight, that would really make the green people happy.

What about those Frisbees, you know, those flying disks? Maybe an old man like me might be able to throw one 5 or 6 feet farther. More than that, they just might fly straighter. Who knows until they try it?

By the way, I hear porpoises and seals develop wrinkles in there skin at high speed, which streamlines them. Maybe we need to discard the dimples and develop wrinkles instead. I mean, if we really need to save the fuel, if we really need to cut down on pollution don’t we need to check every possibility.

Can you imagine an Air Force One with wrinkles? Really? Maybe.

Rising Sea Levels

Some like to blame rising sea levels on global warming. The fact is, there are at least 6 reasons the sea is rising that have nothing to do with global warming. Consider there are roughly 3 tons of dust that comes to this planet from space daily. That is over 1000 tons a year. If it is evenly distributed, that is almost 800 tons that goes into the oceans yearly. You add to that the tons of silt that the river wash down from the land, that is a lot. Every particle displaces just a little water.

Considering the size of the oceans, that is not much, but I would suspect it is more than caused by global warming.

We Need a Pipeline

We need a pipeline, one that goes from the Mississippi River to the Colorado River. Any time the water level is too high on the Mississippi, we could pump a bunch of water to the Colorado. They almost always need it.

Perhaps we could compromise. The Missouri river much closer, so the pipeline could be shorter.

To be sure, we would need some big pumps and some good filtering. We would not want to introduce animals to the Colorado that would mess up the ecosystem. However, it would be possible. Moreover, the environmentalist would not be able to fuss about it. Water is not a pollutant and it just might save the Colorado ecosystem and maybe a few farmers. Actually, it might even help us at the supermarket too.

Oh. And by the way, it just might put some of those people back to work… you know, the ones Biden put out of work the first day he took office.

Once again, the questions of the day: Why isn’t Fauci fired? Why isn’t he in an orange jump suit. I hope someone thought to make sure he surrendered his passport. We don’t need him going anywhere right now.

Correction on that. If he wants to go to China or Russia, we need to get him a one way ticket and make sure he gets on the plane. He would feel right at home in China as he has many friends there.

Reasons Not to Work

It would appear we have a large supply of potential employees as well as a large number of job openings. I have heard a number of possible reasons for this: people getting paid for doing nothing seems to be right at the top of the list. However, there are two other possibilities that no one has talked about, leastwise to the best of my knowledge. The one that most readily comes to me are the masks. I am 73 and I find it very difficult to breathe in those things. After an hour or so I just have to take mine off regardless of any law.

I had considered taking on a part-time job to help with my Social Security income, but I know of nowhere that would hire me unless I wear a mask. Because of the requirement, I would suspect there are many that simply will not work because of the respiratory stress it causes. Maybe, now with the shots, this problem will go away. Still, I suspect there are places that will still require the masks.

Although I do not know of anyone who has the second reason, I suspect there are many. There are many these days that cut lawns for money, or simply provide landscaping services. If they are providing these services under the table, so to speak, they could have two sources of income. By the way, do not belittle landscaping as a method of income. Some people make a lot of money at it. If the truth be told, some or all of the money made doing this might not get reported to Uncle Sam. After all, many of those doing the work are not here legally.

And so, by not going back to the legitimate job, some just might be drawing from the government and making a dollar or two on the side. Am I wrong? I can’t prove my suggestion. Then again, I doubt there is anyone that can prove me wrong either.

Let’s face it, government regulations and laws do have a tendency to create underground economies, legal or not. The hitch in this for American citizens is that much of this trade is being taken from them by illegal aliens willing to work for less money.

So it would appear that those who continue to pay them to do nothing are also the same ones making it difficult for them to make a dollar or two under the table. Who’d guess. The democrats making it hard for the poor to make a dollar or three on the side, illegal though it might be.

Cruise Ships

From time to time, I’ve looked at a few of those cruise ship things where they tout how nice it would be to go on a cruise ship. I also looked at a few of the river cruise videos. I think I sort of like the river cruises a little better but I do have something of a problem with them all, especially the river cruises.

It seems that no matter what the cruise or where they go, there is wine involved, at least twice a day. I mean, why would I need to board a ship to drink wine. Besides, it would be much less expensive if I just sat at home and drank it.

Actually, I don’t drink wine, or any alcoholic beverage. Also, whenever I can, I discourage others to do so. Therefore, my question is purely hypothetical. (I guess that is the word for it) The thing is, even if I did drink wine, it does add a substantial cost to getting drunk. I mean most of those cruises are a grand for each passenger.

It seems to me as if the people that put these shows on TV can’t think of anything else to do on the cruises. They go here and they go through some ancient city followed by a glass or two of wine. Then they go over there, where they sample the local wine. Then of course, it is over to this wonderful place where everyone enjoys a toast with this wine.

I don’t get it. Isn’t the purpose of these cruises to see the sights and get to know the people.

Even if I did enjoy wine, I don’t think I would want to go on any of these cruises. I mean, it would be nice to see the Eiffel Tower and the pyramids of Egypt. However, the question I have is, “Do they have any regular food?” I mean I like hamburgers, french fries and Diet Coke. Maybe I would need to notify the cruise line that I’m not too keen on the fancy stuff. Every now and again, I like a baked potato with a medium well steak, usually sirloin. And oh yes, I like my fish actually cooked, without the eyes looking back at me.

I guess that is why I will never get rich. I would never survive in the environment. I’m not one who likes fancy stuff. If I ever became a billionaire and bought a 150 foot yacht, It would have no bar or Jacuzzi. Also, I think I would want to make sure the chef would know how to make hamburgers and hot dogs.

I would guess any guests that I would have along wouldn’t like it so much, but it is my boat, my imagination. If they want raw fish, they need to use their imagination to get their boat and their chef. Then again, why would a person need a chef to cook raw fish. On the other hand, I suppose they could freeload with the billionaire they know.

To be sure, if you are one of those go green types, you might not want to go on those cruises. Even the imagination ones burn diesel like you wouldn’t believe.

Cooking With Gas or Electric?

Just saw an article on cooking with gas, and its downsides. The author, very likely a person with a college or two, tried to convince me that it is better to cook with electricity. He had a reason or four. On the other hand, I have cooked with electric and I have cooked with gas and, though I have no college I would much rather cook with gas.

  1. It cost less
  2. It is faster
  3. It is instant. Electric may need a few adjustments to decide on a correct setting being as heating elements take time to heat or cool.
  4. It is more environmentally friendly. While electric does not generate exhausts, generating the electricity does.
  5. It is more reliable. I have lived in my current residence for about 40 years. I have never lost my gas supply. In general, I have lost electric at least once a year. In two instances I lost it for 3 days or more. While it may not get as cold as it does up north, it does get below freezing, as it is now.
  6. While the newer electric stoves do have a few nice features, I prefer to have something that will work when I turn it on. I guess people that have more money than me prefer the induction ranges, mine works. I haven’t replaced it for about 30 years.

So as for me, you can take your electric stoves and stuff them. And, by the way, I have also replaced my electric hot water heater and clothes dryer with gas. Both work better and drastically decreased my over all utility prices.

As a side note, our electric grid is always on the brink of being overloaded. It is the nature of the beast. Their logic is simple. Never build any more than needed. You save money that way.

Temperatures Plunging

It’s 9 degrees today in Chicago. I know because I heard it on the news.

When I checked the temperature here near Memphis, I saw it was 9 degrees. Only it didn’t make the news.

I suspect that Chicago has seen temperatures that cold and colder. Where’s the news?

I have lived here for 40 years. I don’t recall it getting colder than 10 degrees ever before, yet no one has mentioned us on national news. I guess we don’t rate. I think there are some that don’t even consider us part of the country.

I have a solution

In the middle of the southern California desert there is a lake. I have seen it. If you take a little time, you can find it on the Google maps. It is a short distance from Indio. It used to be a big tourist place. People used to go there and swim and ski.

Not so much anymore. You see it has two problems. First it is getting smaller. Second, as suggested by its name, it is full of salt water. As the water evaporates, the the Salton Sea becomes more salty. Currently, the water is about 30% saltier than the ocean, which makes it quite toxic.

Currently, they tell me the ocean level is rising. I wrote a post on this, I guess about a year ago. I’m not going back through that, but very little of it has to do with global warming. Mostly, the Salton Sea is below sea level. Water could be filtered and then permitted from the ocean into the lake. In order to increase the level of the lake back to the desired level, it would take millions, perhaps billions of gallons of water.

There. You see, it would be a win, win, win for all. The recreation area would be restored. The water would be less salty and the ocean would would go down a little. Who knows? Maybe we could actually increase the level a little above the original level. Moreover, maybe there are other places we could find to store all that access ocean water. Maybe we could allow a little into the dead sea.

If we really got rambunctious, we might even dig a few holes specifically for the water. Can you imagine a lake in the middle of Saudi Arabia. It would permit swimming and boating in an otherwise arid area. And, of course, it would drastically increase the value of the land. They could build hotels, apartments and even homes along the shore.

Who knows, if we build enough of these lakes around, we might help the temperature go down. The vaporization from the lakes would help cool things down. It might even cause a little rain around the lakes. This in turn would decrease the so-called global warming.

Then, of course, we can’t do any of these things. The dems would not like it. They would lose one of they big clubs with which to destroy the republicans.

So, no matter how good the idea, forget it. It won’t happen. Not if the global warmest crowd has anything to say about it.

Ratcheting Down

There is a tool that will be found in almost every mechanic’s tool box called a ratchet.  It is an especially useful tool in that it can save a lot of time.  It can be set to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts in such a way that the operator can twist it both ways and it only goes one way.  Hence, it can tighten or loosen things without continually being repositioned.

Of course, I likely don’t need to tell you this.  Most people are already well aware of it.  The point is that when it is set for tightening, they cannot be used for loosening and vice-versa.

The thing is that socialism is like a ratchet that is set for tightening.  It is only used for tightening control over a populace, not for loosening.

If history teaches us one thing it teaches us that communism is very reluctant to loosen its hold on a people.  It was not until the Soviet Union went bankrupt that it folded.  And, by the way, the same maniacal outfit is still in control of Russia, only under another name.  Fortunately, they were forced to let go of all their satellite countries.

China, to this day is ruled by people who call themselves communists, though they are actually selfish tyrants who rule with an iron fist.  If it were true communism, everyone would have equal food, shelter and clothing.  In China, as they say, some are more equal than others.

I don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t see anything on the distant horizon for anything improving.  It only gets worse year after year and they are trying to force their form of government on all.  If they can, they will force their ways on the US.  They are doing what they can right now.  Their goal is one world government.

If they succeed, it will be like the ratchet.  It will be one way.  No one, no earthly power will ever change it.  The communist ratchet only works one way. Once it ratchets down, it never ratchets back up.

Energy (Oil)

For a nation to be strong, it all starts with oil, coal and natural gas. We need steel, we need aluminum and we need food, but it all starts with energy. We need the energy to make steel. We need energy by the megawatt to make aluminum. We need energy to extract it all from the earth and we need energy to make the raw products, which we turn into cars, tractors, trucks and a list far too long for me to mention.

You remove the energy from us and our country will go back into the stone ages so fast it would make your head spin.

By the way, we need the oil in three ways for farming. We need it for the fertilizer, for the pesticides and for the operation of farm equipment. If the tractors remain silent, we won’t eat. Those of us who are able, might grow a little in our backyards but not nearly enough. Besides, the plants need water. Actually, so do we. Without fuel, the water pumps won’t work. We might haul it up from the lakes and rivers, but we would have to do that by real horse power the type that eats hay.

But that’s not the half of it. There will be no way to remove the trash and garbage, especially from heavily populated urban areas. Disease would run rampant in weeks, if not sooner.

and, guess what. The dummycrats want us to wean ourselves off oil in a couple of decades. They want us to rid ourselves of it all. It is dumb. Guess what? Our farms not only feed our people here in the US but we feed people all over the world. If the democrats have their way, the folks in other countries will starve too. They will wonder why the largest producers of food in the world aren’t sending them any food. We will have to tell them. Sorry. The dummycrats don’t want us to produce carbon dioxide.

Maybe those dummycrats would like to explain to the children of our nation why we have no more potatoes. Those Black lives who matter. They will die without food.

But they don’t care. They don’t care about any lives, least of all Black lives. Their whole purpose is control. They want to win those elections and they will tell us anything to that goal. The truth is, Obama killed thousands by withdrawing the troops from Iraq early. Ask him if he lost one night of sleep over it. The governor of New York directly caused the death of 11,000 people as a result of the virus. Ask him if he cares.

I don’t know. I lack the research ability, but I would guess at least 1100 of those people who died in those nursing homes were Black, African-Americans. It bothers me more than I can tell and I had nothing to do with it. Had I known and were able, I would have done all I could to prevent it. I don’t think it bothers him one little bit. I sense not one little bit of remorse.

By the way, the government of New York will not let people use fracking to produce oil inside New York. You can easily tell where their interest lie.

As I said, it all starts with energy. Without it, the US becomes another third world country. It is exactly what the dummycrats want. Then they can rule and they can fly around in their planes and drive around in their limos while the rest of us make do.

Unless this is what you want, vote republican and tell your friends to do the same. If you don’t, then after the election, it will be too late. No one will be able to do anything then. and then you will experience first hand what I am saying.

What type of energy will people use then. They will have to burn wood just to stay warm. Do you have any idea how much CO2 and smog wood causes? At least we won’t need to concern ourselves with forest fires. There will be no forests. People will burn the wood to stay warm, those who can. The rest will simply freeze.

Smog in the Los Angeles valley didn’t start with cars but the burning of wood long before white man arrived on the scene.
