My Prophecy Has Come True

I am not a prophet but sometimes I can foretell the future. It doesn’t take a special ability from above, just a little observation and reasoning.

My prediction was a simple one. Self-driving cars will not be successful for decades, if not longer. My reasoning was and is very simple. I have no doubt that they will soon have Self-driving cars safer than those driven by humans.

Compared to humans, computers react, effectively instantly. Perhaps, more important, they are not distracted. The nice thing is that the computer controlled car would be able to follow much closer and still be safe.

The hitch has not one thing to do with the cars or computers. It’s the law and the legal system. I saw today that Tesla was sued by a Tesla owner. The driver tried to claim that Tesla was at fault for an accident, but Tesla was found not at fault.

Let’s look at the possibilities. As it turned out, Tesla was out the cost of providing a defense, even though they were not at fault. For one case, that’s not much. When the number of cars increases, then so will the costs of lawyers.

At some point Tesla, and others, will need to buy insurance to pay for settling the thousands of suits. It will have to happen. Every day, I see these Morgan and Morgan commercials. I suspect they are already exploring the possibility of settling the first million dollar law suit.

My guess is, after a few of those, guilty or not, those Self-driving vehicles will become to fade from view.

There are but two things that will allow their return. Either perfect computers and/or a revision of the laws. Regardless, I really believe the revision of our law is in order.

No one group of people has beneted from the tort laws than the lawyers. Considering that it is mostly lawyers that write the laws, I don’t expect any change in the next decade or two.

So, Self-driving cars will have to wait for perfect computers. When that happens, there will be many disappointed lawyers.

Still, there will be accidents. Then, lawyers will converge to get their share of contingency money.

Global Warming?

Not 1 trick-or-treater. That’s a first. Since we moved in in 1977, we have always had a few come by.

It reminded me of the old days. I was 5 the 1st year I remember. We were out till midnight and we collected our share of all kings of goodies. It did make me wonder why we didn’t have Halloween once a week, or at least one time each month. I certainly would not have complained at every other night.

When I moved out to Southern California, it was really neat. It was warm and some folks left their lights on till 2. I’d come home with a pillow case half full of all sorts of stuff.

Well, this year, it got cold, almost freezing. As near as I can tell, that was what stopped the crowds this year. Maybe there have been previous Halloweens that have been colder. I don’t know. However, this one sure stopped everything, cold, if you’ll excuse the pun.

However, it does seem to me that all the experts say we are all getting warmer. Well, just maybe they can explain that to all the trick-or-treaters.

Well, as for me, they would have had to tie me down when I was a kid. If I could walk to school in the snow, and I did, then I could go in search of candy in a near freeze.

Oh, and by the way, this will likely make all those who bought Reese’s peanut butter cups very happy. I mean, as the commercial says, it makes much more for us.

I’d Settle for One

Prompt for 3 wishes

This one is tough. That is to say, I know what I would like but I don’t think any genie, even in fantasy could grant my wish.

Maybe I should back up a line or two in my explanation. Let’s look at Salomon, the king who had the wisdom to ask for wisdom. I can’t really disagree with his request, but if I were asked by God what I want, I would not hesitate, I would like to be able to heal people.

It is a vein request to be sure in that I know it would never be granted. I really know better. However, I would give up every worldly possession to be able to bring healing to the child with cystic fibrosis. I saw two of my brothers die from cancer. I certainly wish I could have done something about that. Then there are those with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

There are two hitches to the request. First, and most important, God is not genie. I fear I might even be a little disrespectful in making the comparison. Secondly, I already asked, a bunch of times. I don’t think He is willing to grant this request.

However, the prompt was there. I figured I might as well be honest about it, in a round about way. I can kind of see why. In a matter of days, can you imagine the line that would form at my front door? I’d guess there would be a number of reporters there, besides those who wanted to be healed.

As a side note: Some might have noticed I had to insert the prompt into the post the last few times. In the past, it was automatically inserted. Just figured I’d explain if anyone was wondering.

Out of State Prospecting

Just got a circular today encouraging me to vote for Brandon Presley for governor of Mississippi. Disregarding the content, the circular demonstrated one of my pet peeves in the world of politics. The mail was postmarked Little Rock, Arkansas.

Now, my question is, just why is someone in Arkansas trying to tell me how to vote in Mississippi.

Granted, it just might be a quirk. I mean Presley might not even know about the mailer or the organization that mailed it. Then again, that sort of falls in the area of plausible deniability. Moreover, if asked directly, he might deny the mailer. However, I am sure he would not deny the message.

Strange how that works. He gets the benefits without the liability.

Finally, I have a difficult time believing any of the literature. The dems do have a habit of twisting the truth. If Presley is truly the honest upstanding candidate he claims to be, why oh why would he ever want to be associated with a party that lies, steals and permits so much killing?

As Difficult as It May Be To Believe

I turned the news on this morning. Strange as it seems, I do like to see what is going on around me in this world. Then, of all things, I was treated to 30 minutes about Matthew Perry, 10 minutes of weather and 10 minutes sports… that was slipped in between all the many commercials. And incidentally, somehow they did manage to have a few minutes of news.

As difficult as it may be to believe, Matthew Perry was not a head of state or even the head of a major business. I can’t think of one really important thing he did. He was an actor, a person who pretended to be someone else.

I never saw him before all the “news” about him. …sorry, not impressed. Be that as it may, I don’t think any actor deserves that much attention.

I suspect that it is but one reason our nation is having problems as we do. It would seem our media has decided to report just about anything but the news, especially when they feel they have something else more “important” to report on. It is keeping the public ignorant of current events.

I’m not sure which is worse…no news or twisted news. At this point, I am convinced it’s all we can expect.

Religious Liberty

When this country was founded, right in the first amendment, we find one of the cornerstones of our freedom, freedom of religion. Some might find this odd, but Christian laws were made and enforced on day one. Many states required a man to be Christian to hold major political office.

Over the years, decades even, this has been changed. Indeed, it is getting more and more difficult for a Christian person to hold any major office. Worse yet, there are those who call themselves Christian who aren’t. In a way, they seek both the religious and non-religious vote at the same time. I have seen men claim that they are Christian while standing for many things that are obviously aren’t.

Then too, one would expect a Christian to be at least reasonably honest. I guess that is why many men who are Christians left the dems. More and more they are expected to lie and toe the line of the democrats.

Old Joe claims to be Catholic. Right now, he is not in good standing with the Catholic Church. More than that, I have never heard the man really proclaim to be Christian. Indeed, it is truly possible to be Catholic and not Christian. At first this might seem like a radical idea, but stop and think of all that the Catholics have done and taught over the millenniums. To be sure, even their leaders killed, tortured, robbed and deceived in the name of Catholicism.

At this point, it would appear, even the Catholics want to disown him, or at least most of them. Of course Old Joe and most of his cohorts, certainly Obama, have all come down strongly for freedom of religion, as long as it isn’t Christian.

Do you suppose this might say something about them? Maybe, just a little. Just maybe they like it when people can practice their religion freely, as long as they don’t practice Christianity.

It Would Have 1 Advantage

How much would I pay to go to the moon?

I don’t know. However, near as I can tell, at least there would be little chance of catching the China virus every 5 or 6 months up there.

Wait a minute. Wouldn’t be able to stay there. In that case, no need to go. I will continue to do my coughing and hacking with my feet planted firmly planted on planet earth.

Better we send Fauci to the moon, one way ticket.

Brilliant Strategy

Hamas has adopted a Brilliant strategy. Immediately after a strike, beat feet back behind the women and children and take cover. Then of course, lie about it all. Horrible as it is, it works, especially when they have the help of the media.

On the other hand, it isn’t original. It was used it in Vietnam very successfully. It is why those returning from the Nam were called baby killers. In essence, it is why we were forced out, even though we effectively already won.

It’s kind of tough when a soldier must fight the enemy and the media too.

Another thing to remember, it is impossible to reason with a people whose religion demands killing. Hamas, because of their religion insist on killing Jews until there are no more. Then, that same religion will vault them into war with us.

Truck Driver

It is something I have considered seriously.

During my youth, electronics seemed to be the best field and especially computers. Twice I lost my job in electronics while I saw the truck driver across the street make far more money far more regularly.

Another thought I’ve had was something with trains. It wasn’t until I was older that I realized it, but I have always had a fascination with them. I guess, in a way, I was born little late. I loved the old steam engines. Still, the Diesels are neat too. Probably less work as well.

Hamburgers

What food would you say is your specialty?

That’s right. I cook them medium well and put them on a bun. Sometimes, instead, I just put them in a plate aside mashed potatoes and put gravy over both of them. (Generally, store bought. I can’t make gravy as hard as I’ve tried.)

Maybe it’s not fancy, but then, I never did say I have fancy taste. So far, I’ve had no complaints. Then again, I haven’t fixed them much for others, that is, besides as a cook in a restaurant.
