Home Made Guns

Some have the allusion that it takes a big factory to build guns.  Yet, David Marshall Williams made a semi-automatic rifle while incarcerated in prison.  He built it in the prison machine shop.

Basically, it was the one used by hundreds of thousands of soldiers during WWII.  In some some ways, it was a better gun for war than those that were designed and built in the big factories.

I have no doubt that a good blacksmith with the proper tools can build rifles or sidearms with nothing more than a little of the right raw materials and a few good tools.

Some might want to consider that when they say we should make guns illegal.  At least the ones we have now have serial numbers and can be traced to some degree.  If people start making them in basements, we won’t know where they come from, or, for that matter, what country they come from.

GAS TAX??!!

I heard someone else suggest increasing the gas tax, this time federal… 25 cents a gallon.  Easy assumption.  The man does not have to eek out a living and drive fifty miles each way for work.  He certainly doesn’t have to drive a hundred miles to and from work each day as some do.

Then again, maybe I’m wrong.  Maybe he drives an electric car.  At present people driving electric cars don’t pay gas tax.  (I suspect that will be changed soon, though I don’t know how.)

On the other hand, he might use a subway, train or bus to go to work.  He’d not pay a penny for gas tax, leastwise not directly.

Regardless of his method of transportation, he likely doesn’t have to give up groceries to pay the taxes.  He likely doesn’t hurt to pay the bills as most of us do.

There is a solution for building and repairing highways.  Stop squandering the money they have.  Obama was authorized a trillion dollars for “shovel ready projects.”  I believe he should have to repay it.

I still don’t know where that money went.  Maybe it’s time for the government to pinch their pennies for a while.  Maybe it’s time they stop squandering it.  Then maybe they will be more careful with it.  (I don’t hold out much hope for that.)

If you agree with me, send this to someone else.  Send this to your representatives.  Yell it from the housetops.  I’m not sure, they might increase it anyway.  It is what the government does.  It is what they do.  They tax and they spend.  What else would they do.  What else can they do.  Oh, yes.  Make laws.  They do have a tendency to mess that up too.

I Learned One More Thing

In the last couple of weeks, I learned something very important.  A multi-billionaire is subject to being illegally spied on.  If the government was able to spy on candidate Trump, they can spy on any person for any reason.

Forget the 4th amendment.  If you want something kept private, maybe you need to bury it.  If you want to have a private conversation, forget using any kind of phone.  It would be best to go out in the middle of a cow pasture to carry on a private conversation.  Then you might want something that generates white noise.  If you must use email and you don’t want the FBI or NSA to read it, you will likely want to double encrypt it.

Indeed, it is starting to look like money can be made by people selling:

1. Sound proof rooms.

2. E-mail encoders.

3. Audio encryption devices for phones and so forth.

Maybe I missed a few suggestions.  Feel free to add a few.

By the way, I don’t have a whole lot to hide, but if I should decide to encrypt something, no one will ever figure it out.  It is actually a surprisingly simple thing to do.  Maybe I should start doing it just to confuse a few folks.  It would serve them right for abusing their positions.

D. C. Circus

The great circus, Barnum and Baily, has closed.  It’s okay.  We have another, the one in The Capital Building.  Unfortunately, it’s not just for entertainment.  It is for real.  One representative argues this.  The other argues that.  Before you know it, it takes over a year to pass some kind of tax bill, one worse than the one they are replacing.

There are some representatives and senators who have the idea that the higher the taxes are, the greater the revenues.  That simply does not hold true.  It assumes that the spending and working habits of the populous are unaffected by tax rates.  It doesn’t take a genius to understand the hole in that logic.

Moreover, their decisions are warped by people with large sums of money, lobbyists and lawyers who do not represent the national good.

So we sit here and watch the circus.  We would laugh, but it simply isn’t funny.

By the way, there was the promise to repeal Obama care.  It is now almost one year later.  Over half of my Social Security goes to pay the $940 a month for my wife.  I wonder if Sen. McCain would like to help me pay the bill.

My observation is that they really don’t have our interest in mind.  So they come up with all kinds of distractions.  McCain insists on following the senate rules.  Really?  (Proof positive, not all military heroes make good senators)

It Doesn’t Take a PhD

To get rid of Obama Care they need to vote to repeal it.  Should take one day, maybe two.  A simple provision should be made for those who have learned to depend on the law.  It would continue the law for two years.  Those that don’t want to depend on the law should be able to leave it any time.

That gives us two years to do it right.  One bill for pre-existing conditions; one vote in each house; up or down.  The second bill; one vote: include 26 year-olds on the policies.  The third bill….  …and so forth and so on.  It actually does not take someone with a doctor’s degree to figure it out.  I suspect even a high school graduate could do it.

They keep telling us it’s complicated.  Sorry.  I don’t believe that.  What I do believe is that it would be resolved tomorrow if the senators and representatives had to go through all we do.  (Note:  They should be required to do their own paperwork, no cheating by paying someone else.)

While they are piddling around, I am paying $940 a month for my wife.  Thankfully, I am on Medicare or it would be double that.

Oh yes.  By the way, I need to find another insurance company.  Humana is canceling my wife’s policy at the end of the year.  I guess the premiums are still too small.

What I think is that no one within the confines of the D.C. city limits cares one iota.   While they argue, I go broke.  What I think is that I am not alone.  I might have to get another job just to pay her insurance.  The problem is that I don’t think I can find one that will pay be enough.

Maybe it is about time to start sending letters to our congressmen.  I’m not sure it will do any good, but let’s just try it and see.

Equal Justice?

As I listened to the news lately, I heard that President Obama did some spying on some people that was illegally.  It prompted a question in my mind, one that I wonder if any others have considered.

If he, or any former president is convicted of a crime and is sentenced to prison, would that mean that the Secret Service agents would have to continue to guard him while he is within the prison walls?

As I pondered the thought, I realized that it would be impractical, if not impossible.  A prison cell is too small for an ex-president and four secret service men.  Moreover, they would not be able to take weapons into the prison as there is too much chance of another prisoner getting his hands on one.

I would guess that the most practical way would be a house arrest arrangement.  He would have to stay in his house with all phone calls monitored.  I would suggest that he Should have to eat the same food as the other prisoners, but I don’t think that would happen.  My suspicion is that he would eat far better than most of us.  He would probably also have maid and laundry service, maybe even a butler.  Mostly he would be able to live about like he does now, except he’d have to stay in the house.

Somehow, I don’t think that would be equal justice.  Oh well.  Who am I kidding.  No matter the crime, Obama would never be convicted of anything.  Even if someone charged him with anything, there is no way that they would be able to assemble a jury to convict him.

So the question will never be more than a mental exercise.  The question will never have any more than a theoretical answer.
