Color Me The Reluctant Republican

My father was a Republican so, for years, so was I. The problem was, over the years, my ideas changed and are changing. Therefore, I have adopted a different attitude has changed. I do not ever support the Republican party anymore. I always support individuals, but only those that generally agree with me.

If any Republican wants to know how to get me support

  1. Build the wall. In the past I have seen a Republican party weak on illegal immigration. I may hold my nose and vote for the weak Republican but I will not provide any support and I discourage others to do the same.
  2. support police and law enforcement
  3. overspending.
  4. of course, I do get suspicious when representatives and or senators become millionaires.
  5. I will not support nor will I vote for anyone who supports pro choice legislation. I would prefer pro life, but at this point, I will settle for not pro choice.

In addition, I have been disappointed with Bush Sr and Jr. I am convinced that neither Gulf War was necessary. A few of the right words would have kept Hussain in his own backyard.

From what I understand Bush Sr never did or said anything to discourage Hussain, though he had a 3 day warning. Moreover, after Bush Jr did go in, it should have been a total occupation.

In both cases, we should have charged them for our cost. There is no reason that the American people should have to pay for Hussain’s stupid hunger for power.

Never Thought About It

I guess, as long as I get to dream, which cost nothing, what I really would like; what I would really prefer is a staff of two and room for the 3 of us.

I need people with whom I can consult. There are the simple things, to be sure. Are things spelled right? Have I used the right punctuation? Sometimes I leave things out. On some occasions, I use far more words than I need.

However, sometimes I spend hours in research. I guess I should write more about what I know. It just is, sometimes my characters, all by themselves, decide to take off for India. Now, in view of the fact that some of my readers are from India, I really don’t like to admit it but I know very little of the country. Well, I have seen a few old movies.

Then too, I would like a good fact checker. I hate it when, in my blogging, I get facts wrong. Right now, I am my own fact checker and sometimes I get it wrong.

The dreams, of course, cost nothing. However, a staff of 2 would cost real money, which I don’t have.

1961 Oldsmobile Starfire

I don’t know how to say it, but it just looked to me the way a car should look. over the years, cars as well as the starfire went through changes. To me, they were not improvements. They got smaller, more expensive, but not as good.

The Starfire had a distinctive look. When you see one, it is instantly recognized. No other car ever looked similar before or since. Now similarities seem to goals.

Yeah. What a shame. Oddly, it is what we let our government do to us. Cars used to represent the owner. Cars now seem to all be designed by a small group of people to represent the government’s idea of the ideal transport. Individuality is being qushed, and not only with cars.

My car was was designed and built by Nissan. Yet, since I bought it, I found it has many resemblances to other cars, designed and built by other manufacturers, in the US & in Europe. I don’t understand that.

I guess, if the trend continues, all cars will look the same with a different logo on it.

Which begs the question, just who is copying whom.

Judging Character

The question is am I a good judge of character?

Maybe I can answer it this way. I suspect I have been wrong more often than right.

Still, it won’t take me long to get it right. You can always tell about folks when they get angry. That is when they drop all their pretenses.

Think about how often do you reveal who you are through loss of temper.

If you want to know my true colors, just mention Obama care or Planned Parenthood.

At the Dinner Table

Those who have read my posts know I do get flippant. I guess this is another one but let’s please look at it a little deeper.

When I was in boot camp, we all looked forward to mealtime. It was not just a time where we could eat, it was also a time when we could relax. Other than when we slept it was virtually the only time we could take it easy for about 15 minutes.

Far more than that, us humans are social. We never like eating alone. When we look across the table, we prefer to have someone looking back. I would suspect, besides my own experience, most everyone will agree with me, even those psychologists.

Most of us also agree it is good for a family to sit around the table at least once a day, preferably twice. It strengthens bonds and provides a feeling of belonging.

I’m old. It won’t be long I will be with the master, the creater of the universe. I will be able to dine with Him. I think that will then be my favorite place of all.

Bread & Milk

Or is it milk & bread. they don’t last long so we always have to go back for more weather we use them or not. As for the rest, I guess pet food. The animals eat much more betterer than me and my wife. Sometimes I buy lettuce and tomatoes. Not that much. it is just the 2 of us and she doesn’t like it. I generally end up tossing half of it. It is sort of the reason we eat out so much. I hate wasting food.

Now that we have discussed my diatary habits, maybe I can speak of something more important, more interesting. For instance, whose going to win the Super Bowl. Or perhaps, do you think the Browns will actually make it this year to…where is that game going to be played this year? Do you plan to watch it, especially if it is a rematch of last years.

Not to trivialize the pros, but we still have several college games to be decided. It looks like Memphis will again be in the Liberty Bowl. Speaking of Liberty Bowl, I saw the one in which Bo Jackson played. He was very amazing, unfortunately. I was routing for Arkansas.

My point is, I would hope others are more interested in things other than what I eat, I hope.

My 1st Day as a Marine

We drove down from Los Angeles to MCRD, San Diego. I could tell the driver had seen it before. He brought the bus to a stop, opened the doors and swung his legs around so as he could lean back and watch it all. I often wondered if I could talk with the man. No one should ever enjoy watching something like that.

Then, the drill instructor stepped on and began the speech he likely gave dozens of times. Basically, we were told to get off the bus as fast as we could. Then, we were to run over and put our feet on yellow painted footprints.

The drill instructor was never satisfied with how fast we left the bus, but he made sure we did it 6 times. Then we entered a barber shop where they simply ran the clippers over our heads.

First chance I had to see myself in the mirror, I didn’t recognize myself. I thought silently, “Just what did I ger myself into.”

The next 12 weeks, I found out.

As my aside, it is something that would be beneficial to most of us, though very few would want to. It certainly did me a lot of good for me. Over the years, I have done things I never would have thought possible. l am sure others have too.

Attention to Detail

I have known a few. As a big picture person, I have a tendency to overlook details. It both helps and hurts in my writing. It helps me develop good plots and then I leave out words or even phrases.

Look at Mickey Spillane. He wrote his first book in nineteen hours. Then he sent it, as is, to a publisher. How many folks can do that sort of thing on a typewriter?

When I was in the Marines, I met a few men who very, very rarely made mistakes. It’s not that they corrected them. They didn’t make them in the first place.

I think, if I were put in a position of great responsibility, I would like to surround myself with folks like that. They just might make me look very good.
