It’s Inconceivable

It is inconceivable that a person without a gun is going to stop a person with a gun. The person with the gun has the advantage. Those who are without arms are without defense and they are totally at the mercy of the one who is armed.

The armed person is free to shoot all he wants until he is confronted by another person who is armed. The sooner that happens, the fewer who will be hurt or killed. If they wait until police arrive, that likely will mean a few more injured, maybe another death or two.

Sounds like a logical reason to arm well trained teachers. Then again, dems don’t care about logic or lives. All they care about is power, to them guns represent a threat to their power.

Consider, a gun in the hands of a teacher or two is better than in the hand of a murderer.

Migration Frustration

Passwords are going to be the death of me yet. Two or three days ago, I bought an all-in-one Dell computer. I had to. My laptop was getting really slow and it seemed I was always having to update it. The computer is great. The migration was enough to make me want to pull out what hair I have left.

I guess, in a way, the all-in-one is similar to a laptop, just bigger and a great deal heavier. Well, I don’t guess anyone has put a battery in one, yet anyway.

Let me first say a little about the hardware. One slick thing is the camera. It slides down into the computer when not in use. Not only is it a little cleaner looking but the camera absolutely cannot be used when inside its little Hidie hole. It says a lot about security, and it begs the question, why didn’t someone think of that a whole lot sooner?

My laptop takes roughly 2 minutes after it’s turned on to do any real work. The new computer is ready to go in about 3 or 4 seconds. Try to convince me that wasn’t surprising the first time I turned it on. I use MS office 7.0. It pops right up there without any hesitation. It’s ready to go much quicker than I am. I don’t like the newer versions, or at least the one I used for about 10 minutes. Removed them immediately after. I suppose, after a while, I’ll try them again, but I’ll not be in any hurry.

The camera comes with a flash and takes very good pictures. The problem is that no one wants to see photos of me. I guess the one thing that surprised me most were the speakers. I have no idea how they did it but they really put some high-quality speakers in there. It’s not just that it sounds good, but it is easy to distinguish one instrument from another. Most speakers, unless they are very expensive, let the sounds from the clarinet combine with violin so that a band or orchestra has just one sound. With this system, each instrument could be easily distinguished from the other. And, by the way, I had to turn the volume down about half-way. Did not expect that.

Now, as for the migration. Just for the sake of helping anyone else fixing to go through the same thing, might I suggest one thing that will save everyone a lot of pain. Before starting the migration, make dead sure you know all your passwords. In fact, if I were to do it again, I would change them all to the same thing before starting. Normally, that is a bad idea, but it is only temporary, and it will save a lot of time. Once you have everything migrated and working, go back and change the passwords again. Indeed, it might be a good time to change passwords. They do suggest we change them regularly.

At any rate, after 3 days, I have most of the migration done. There is one more thing to set-up but after all the frustration, I might as well just say forget it.

On the other hand, that is sort of the problem, I mean, I just keep forgetting it, the passwords I mean.

A Change of Planning

Perhaps the one thing about my Nissan EV where I must face reality with is the planning. In theory, my car can go 210 miles without changing. This means I have a maximum round trip range of 105 miles. That is, I must be able to return from wherever I go.

Moreover we are talking idealism. The actual range is determined by a wide variety of things. Personally, I get a little uncomfortable going more than 60 miles from home. This gives me quite a margin.

I might feel comfortable going further if I have a good generator in my trunk. Even then, I should be willing to wait a while for the recharge. Alternately, I probably should carry a good long extension cord.

Looking back on it, I think any EV with a range of less than 300 miles is not going to work well as a primary transportation unless you’re retired like me.

Moreover, I hate to break it to the going green gang, but, until EVs are built with a true 350 range, the internal combustion auto is here to stay. No one is going to like to make a 2 day trip out of 300 mile trip.

Two Ways to Lower Gas Prices

Release oil from the reserves, which leaves less reserves.

or

Produce more oil, which leaves less reserves for emergencies, as it was originally intended.

Releasing the oil is the quick fix. Production of more oil is the long term solution. Old Joe decided to release a million barrels from reserves. At his age, why should he be concerned about anything long term.

A Little Bragging

Today they got on TV bragging that they decreased traffic fatalities this year by 30%.

I shouldn’t wonder. Their drivers have been heading south to play bumper cars…and north and east and west. I know. I generally come close to meeting my share on a regular basis.

Have You Heard

The current gov of CA doesn’t want convicted murderers to be put to death humanely.

However, he has no problems cutting and tearing an unborn baby into pieces, even though he is blameless and innocent.

Typical dem. He’s got it upside down and backward. And by the way, as a dem, he has no real concerns about anyone dying. No dem leader does. All they care about is control. They are in favor of abortion, not for women, but for control. It is not about right or wrong. It is about the votes, regardless of the death they allow or cause. If they could get more votes by bringing back the electric chair, then they would be all for it, but only for Republicans, of course.

Two Crazy Suggestions

Write names on paper or some other permanent record. If you don’t, I promise, you will forget the names and regret it.

When you take pictures make a permanent record of who the subject is.

Right now you are sure you’ll never forget, but you will. Memories fade faster than you think. This is especially true for military friends or even acquaintances.

I have a long list of names I don’t remember and I wish I did. I have photos, some photos of relatives I don’t know who they are of.

I suspect you will ignore me. I also suspect you will wish hadn’t.

As Seen on TV

We’ve all seen them. Some so-called screen writer spins the wheel and it comes up with the plot and he just plugs in the bits as pieces. I mean, all movies and TV episodes must have at least one chase scene. Sometimes, they are afoot, other times in cars. On the other hand, some are both. On rare occasions, it might be at sea.

There is always the innocent person trapped in the little town where the mayor, sheriff, deputy and judge are all related. The tricky part is coming up with a reason for holding the victim. Possibly, the screen writer isn’t very inventive so there is no reason.

Of course there is the kangaroo trial in the kangaroo court and he or she is found guilty and is having difficulty getting word to the outside world. There is no way to get the word to knight in shining armor for the rescue.

Now admit it. You’re reading the only the description of the story and already I have you on the edge of your seat. All I need do is add the proverbial music at the right time, like when the victim is attempting an escape, only to be foiled at the last the very last minute.

The main thing of course, it has to be a small city and a kangaroo court or the plot won’t work. I mean, who would believe a kangaroo court in the largest city in the country where the whole world can watch? Would anyone ever believe that? It would never happen, right?

And yet it has. Perhaps it is the largest most one-sided trial ever of record. Shortly the trial will be in the hands a jury selected from one of the most one sided populations of history. Can any justice system work under those conditions? Maybe, but I doubt it. I really hope I’m proved wrong.

If the jury comes back with an acquittal, it will prove to the world that we had the most innocent president in history. After years of being under the microscope, they have found nothing, which means there is nothing.

On the other hand, if he is found guilty, it will only prove that anyone can be proved guilty in a court that is so heavily biased.

Not a Fan of Microsoft

For sure, I do have a list of complaints with MS. I am sure they don’t care. I’m not their only customer. Yet, as far as I’m concerned, all their versions of Windows since XP have been downhill. Worse they have forced me off XP making virtually all my software instantly obsolete.

I didn’t much care for that.

More recently, they wanted me to try out another version of Outlook. I did and found it slow clumsy and it provided me nothing in return. The did add a few things, all useless to me.

So, logically I went back to the previous version. All was fine but for one thing. Every time I start the old Outlook, it kept trying to get me to try the new version. I saw no way of removing the annoyance so I removed outlook. I still get my email on my tablet just fine. Moreover, here lately, I’ve been using my tablet far more than my computer anyway.

Don’t much like MS trying to override me on the control of my computer. If they keep it up, I’ll toss the computer and will rely completely on the tablet.

As an aside, I wouldn’t be updating the software once a week- annoying and time consuming. Moreover, I will be able to drop the $50 internet and just use the tablet’s built-in modem.

Who knows? It is conceivable my idea will catch on and MS will be more willing to listen to their customers. Just, not likely in my lifetime.
