Maybe I Look at Things a Little Different

When most looked at the verbal contest, they saw two men who were seeking the 2nd highest office in the land. What I saw were two leaders. Vance appeared to be man I would have no problem following him into way. Naturally, I am a little biased. I was in the Marines and he was a Marine officer. Even though Walz was a sergeant major, the man I saw did not appear to be a man I would want to follow anywhere.

Then too, Walz was a teacher. Is he really someone you would want teaching your kids? As for me, maybe it was a good thing he didn’t lead those men into war. Also, maybe it was a good thing he got out of teaching.

Moreover, I sensed he didn’t do much thinking during the debate. It was one platitude after the next. Even a parrot can memorize short phrases.

The Illusion

It was all an illusion. It was brought before a liberal Supreme Court and they twisted a few words around and got the result they wanted. However, there was never a right to abortion. Read it yourself. Without turning the words inside out, just try to get such a right out of it.

For decades, the liberals have had their way, but not based on the constitution or any of the amendments. Then, a few of the justices are replaced and they decide to read the real words without the distortion, and the so-called right goes away. The illusion created decades ago fades away. Then, instantly, that method of birth control no longer is convenient or, for that matter legal.

The one thing I noticed is that it changes more than the law. Always before, the abortionists argued that they had a constitutional right to kill, though they used the more palatable terminology. The term abortion becomes a medical procedure instead of killing or murder. I must admit that a medical procedure does sound better, though it doesn’t change what it is. I mean, borrowing does sound so much better than robbery, right.

Now, suddenly, they can’t argue that it is a constitutional right. That has been removed from them. If they are in favor of killing, they must admit that they are in favor of killing. Now, the abortionist mush argue in favor of abortion, not women’s rights. The abortion rights no longer exist.

And so it is, I am a little curious. If the abortionists is going to argue in favor of abortion, will they continue to try to argue the illusion of the right that never existed; or will they start trying to argue that it is righteous to kill defenseless babies?

Did Anyone Notice?

CBS broke the rules. The woman fact checked. Moreover, when Vance tried to point it out, CBS cut the mics.

I am one of those that believe in following the rules. This was a particularly bad incident being as the fact check was an error. The woman was factually wrong.

Just goes to show, can’t believe CBS can we?

I think Vance deserves an apology. Do you believe he will get one? Not likely. Not this year.

As an aside, the cost of living has gone up far more than the numbers say. Anyone who has to shop each week for groceries will tell you that without hesitation. I bring this up because the subject came up during the debates, both of them. And why is it that the news media is ignoring this difference?

I Must Admit Some Disappointment

I wrote a post that strongly suggested that Pete Rose should never be put in the Hall of Fame. Apparently, I am mostly alone. I have heard many suggest that, now that he is dead, we should go ahead and put him in now.

Of course, who am I to decide. It just is that, I am disappointed. Many, both conservative and liberal have taken the attitude that it really wasn’t that big of a deal. One thing I have noted is that, the more that folks are in favor of gambling, the more they are in favor of letting Rose in.

I have no say in the matter. I have no TV or radio program. Maybe I just have a few hundred who even know of my blog. However, I do have my ideas of what is right and wrong. I have written many times of the downsides of gambling. Indeed, I keep hearing the advertisements of how fun it is to gamble, though it isn’t but for a second.

A couple of decades ago, it was not that way. I was in the majority in condemning those who gamble and encourage to gamble. It was in that world in which Rose was gambling, not our current world, which loves the lotteries and scoffs and me. It was in that world in which he chose to do his gambling and set the bad example for our youth. Indeed, to some degree, the stories of his gambling might have even added to the desire to loosen the laws on gambling.

As I say, little old me, I have little to say about it. It is an observation. It is one where few agree with me. It leaves me with a statement and two questions. I am disappointed. Is this a good thing, really? Is this the world we want our children to be brought up in, or the one that condemned Pete Rose for blatantly breaking the rules and then refused to repent? I kind of like the way it was, but that’s me.

As an aside, we all make mistakes. Mostly, they are simple mistakes we ignore, other than to try not to make the same mistake again. On the other hand, sometimes we make mistakes that live with us the rest of our lives. In some cases, we make mistakes that outlive us. I suspect, despite all I say, Pete Rose will be in the Hall of Fame one day. Still, it won’t change the fact that Pete Rose made one of those permanent mistakes that will live far beyond his grave. No one will ever be able to say that he didn’t do that which was wrong and he set a bad example for our youth.

When and if he ever gets in the Hall of Fame, it will send the message that, given enough time, given enough ability, all will be forgiven.

Welding

I went to junior college for a semester, to study electronics. (long story) At any rate, I talked to a few people who were learning to weld. I became familiar with the logic behind it. Now, from time to time I find myself wanted to be able to weld to build some various things or to mend things that were broke.

I have seen people weld and I must say that I wish I could do that. On the other hand, people can really get hurt with that stuff. Maybe it is good that an accident prone person as me never leaned such a thing. Still, maybe it would be nice to know someone who can weld.

I Am Definitely Impressed

Iran fired, perhaps as many as 300 missiles at Israel. According to the last I heard, not so much as one person was hurt by a missile. That says a lot about that iron dome. Then again, the iron dome might have has some help from God. He can do that you know.

At any rate, now Iran is a little red-faced. Just how many missiles do they need to fire to get one through. I also think that Iran had better hunker down. I am sure that Israel will give good reason for it.

However, as good as the defense is, I do have some fear. In general they don’t shoot down missiles that will fall in harmless areas. What if one of those harmless missiles has a nuclear warhead? For this reason, if nothing else, the Israelis need to put a stop to those missiles. In other words, Israel would be completely justified in striking back very hard.

The Most Important Part

Last night CBS had a news story about fentanyl. It was pretty good, though it seemed to me to be one testimonial one after the other. They also seemed to summarize by saying the solution was education. I have a hard time believing that. We have been teaching about drugs since I was in school, 1950s, without any real success. The use of drugs are far worse now than ever.

The one part, the most important part, they left out is that the main supplier of the drugs is China through the Mexican cartels. Until we deal with China and the cartels, the problem will only get worse. It is what Pres. Trump was doing when the dems took over. China really cut back on their production, though they still did not completely stop.

If you look at the evidence, and only the evidence, a person would come to the conclusion that the dems like to have the drugs and the tragedy they cause. I am open to any evidence to the contrary. Where is the effort to stop China and the cartels as Trump did. I don’t see it. All I see is cooperation with the Chi-coms. I see no evidence of any effort to deal with the cartels.

Want to know what I would do. I would forewarn those south of the border. I’d tell them if they didn’t stop sending us drugs, then I would send 4 marine companies down there. I would tell them I would take no prisoners. They are killing our youth in what amounts to a declaration of war and war is what they would get. As a nation, we have the right to defend our borders and our people.

Do you think the cartels would take notice? Do you think they would stop? I don’t know. However, one way or the other I’d put a stop to it… and all the education would be taking place south of the border… and quickly.

Best to make sure to educate the right people.

As a side note, I would suspect if I were to run for president, I would not get backing from the cartels. I wonder if Kamala is getting any backing from south of the border or the Chi-coms. Do you suppose it is why Old Joe and Kamala want that border open? Only the Lord knows. He will deal with them all. He knows how.

A Truly Incredible Ball Player

I must admit, begrudgingly, that Pete Rose was one of the best ball players ever was. About the only part of baseball that he didn’t set records in was in pitching.

The problem was he played for Cincinnati. My team was the Dodgers. There was someone I had more than one “discussion” with, some rather heated. Sorry to say, he was usually right.

The fact is that the only reason he didn’t have more stolen bases was cause he had so many home runs.

Nonetheless, he, as many others, did have a weakness, gambling. Some quickly say it should be ignored and he should be permitted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Some who are reading this probably agree.

Perhaps one day it will happen. I hope not. The game has rules, both on and off the field and these rules have reasons. If the rules have no penalties, then why have the rules.

I shouldn’t have to explain the reason for this rule. It should be self-evident as to why the rule. Gambling by those in the game will ruin it for everyone. Indeed, it almost did a long time ago. I can’t remember the details but you are welcome to look it up.

So it is you make an exception for Rose. Who will be the next exception? After a while, the exception becomes the rule. Then no one will have a reason to follow the rule.

Then too, what if others get caught gambling? Do we toss him out or just slap his hand? If we toss him, does he have a cause to take it to court? It looks to me like he would have a valid argument, legal and ethical.

Sometimes, we make life long decisions as Rose did. More than that, it was a decision he was well aware that it might follow him to and beyond the grave. Despite this, after he was caught, he spent the rest of his life looking for his own personal exception. This makes me doubt his true repentance.

He was saying that he knew he did wrong, but because he was a really great player, he should have an exception.

On the other hand, because even his being an exceptional player, all other players, especially exceptional players will make sure to avoid gambling if they hope to make it into the Hall of Fame. Hopefully, it will do as the rule intended. It will keep baseball clean.

Hopefully, most will agree that this is good and important for baseball, as well as other sports.

As an aside, we all make mistakes that we must pay for. Sometimes for a while; sometimes for the rest of our lives; sometimes even longer, as with Rose. It should encourage us to do that which is right, as well as avoid what is wrong.

It’s the Lie That so Many Believe

One thing I do find incomprehensible, which the government and press would like us believe is that inflation is at a level A. Sorry, I know not what the official word is. I do, however, know what I do pay.

The numbers are simply miles apart. I know that. You know that. Yet close to half of the voters in the US have bought the government numbers, lock, stock and barrel. While we know how much more we buy, when we know how much more we give up day by day, so that we can pay for the essentials.

The fact is, the government is selective about what they sample when they announce the increase in the cost of living. When the inflation is 2 %, this selection matters little. On the other hand, when the inflation is 7 or 8 %, it can make a big difference as to what meats they decide to include in their sampling.

It is, as I have said many times before, their deceit always contains an element of truth. It makes it easier to believe when so many of facts are left out.

It does make me want to see their list of sampling. I would also like to see what is dropped off and what new things are included.

Even more, I would like to see a real honest estimate of inflation for the last ten years. I believe it would be very revealing.

I would say many of those holding government positions would be embarrassed, but you and I both know better. It’s impossible to embarrass people like that.

And so it is, most people in this country believe what they know to be deceit, allowing those responsible for the inflation partially off the hook. Indeed, many of those who know of their deceit will vote for them, knowing the other candidate who does not deceive is better for us.

New News, People Are dying From Fentanyl

It’s true! It’s now on network news.

Some who have been reading my posts, know this is old news, which I guess is an oxymoron. I have been writing on it for at least 9 years. Drug abuse in general is what got me into writing books. That was back in the early1990s.

However, back in the days before Trump announced his first run for president, the fentanyl really started coming on, about 90 thousand a year, mostly youth, deaths.

As near as I can tell, not many paid attention to me. Yet, everyone started demonstrating over the war in Vietnam, with the total loss of around 60 thousand lost there… In what, 4 or 5 years. Moreover, the death in Vietnam did have a purpose. Deaths by drugs are double tragic as they are pointless.

Trump made a gallant effort to decrease deaths by fentanyl and had some success. If memory serves me correctly, he got it down to about 30 thousand a year. It was still far too many, but at least it was going in the right direction.

Then Old Joe got in there. The deaths went right back up to 90 thousand. Now, last report, 125 thousand. I guess that’s what it takes to make network news…for a while. After a week or two, it will be back to just a few folks like me, and the parents complaining. Don’t expect the network news to stay after it.

After all, after just a week, it’s no longer news.

It would behoove us all to remember, just because they aren’t being reported, doesn’t mean people aren’t still dying from it.
