Portable Oxygen Concentrators

I’m sure many will disagree, but I’m thankful for the invention of those little things, even though they don’t directly affect my existence.

Allowing patients to carry oxygen bottles was a significant advancement. Now, concentrators have made bottles seem outdated.

The concentrators are smaller, lighter, and safer, making them a convenient option. Without them, some people might be constrained to their home.

It will be nice to have something like that for heart patients. Alternatively, maybe they will come up with something that will make both unnecessary.

What do I Like to Cook

Oddly, I have some expertise on this one. I actually cooked for a living for a short time. Well, I couldn’t call myself a chef. However, in my brief history at the grill, I did cook a bunch of hamburgers. It was very enjoyable, which might surprise a few. Sometimes I wasn’t so perfect, though. One night a young man came running up and yelled that there was no meat on the his hamburger. It might be where Wendy’s came up with their slogan, “Where’s the meat?”

Well the guy was understanding and even had a good laugh about it. Don’t ask how I pulled that bonehead mistake. As they like to say nowadays, it’s complicated.

A question does come to mind though. Does the prompt only mean what I like to cook or what I like to eat after it’s cooked. I’ll try to answer both.

With just the four of us in the family, it was a little wasteful to buy a big bird, though we did a few years. Oddly, though neither my wife or I ever cooked a turkey before, it must have turned out good. The boys and their friends picked the bones clean in the next two days. Incidentally, on the days following Thanksgiving, they did have friends.

Nonetheless, we found a new way to cook turkey for the four of us. We found one pound turkey roasts in the frozen food section. Far easier to cook. Better tasting. Juicier. Just the right size for the four of us and it came with good gravy.

My wife’s grandma sure learned to like them. She kept 4 or 5 of them in the her big freezer all the time.

Nowadays, it’s just the two of us. No reason to even cook the roast. We just find a restaurant. Easier, faster. And no cleanup after.

Oh yes. That reminds me. When I cooked for a living, I loved it. It’s the cleanup I don’t like. And so it is to this day. It is the primary reason we normally eat out. No pots or pans to clean.

How-some-ever, turkey is still about my favorite meat. It just is, most restaurants only serve it on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

A Way to Hurry Things a Bit

Deportation can go faster. Here is how. Pass a law and make the announcement. Those that are caught and deported will be permanently disallowed to return or ever receive a visa or citizenship. When caught, we should get a record of fingerprints and DNA to make sure they will not be able to use an alias.

It would not cause all illegal aliens to self deport, but I would suspect it would cause about half to return home. The rest would be constantly be constantly looking over their shoulder. It would also encourage those remaining in the US to learn flawless English. That wouldn’t be all bad. And, by the way, they would be more careful to obey the law.

Also, it would be a good idea to pass a law making English the official language so that all official documents be in English. The Americans should not have to spend a fortune so that illegal aliens will feel at home here.

Can You Lose Eternal Life?

It is a question that has been argued down through the centuries. Some say this. Some say that. As for me, I believe it can be answered with one simple question and again reinforced with a second.

If you are in danger of losing your eternal life, then was it ever truly eternal life? If you lose eternal life, can you again regain it? If so, how many times can this be repeated?

In my book, eternal life is eternal, by definition. Those who don’t have eternal life, never had it.

Eternal life is a gift given to us by God. By definition, gifts are not earned but can only be received. If you work for a gift, then what you get, cannot be a gift but a reward.

More important, earning eternal life is not in our power. To say that it is, is an attempt to negate the need for the gift. With his death and resurrection, he has paid for our eternal life. How can anyone add to that? Why would anyone turn down such a valuable gift.

Yet, people try to earn salvation. Every day, people turn their backs on the gift. So instead of the gift of eternal life, they receive the punishment of eternal death.

As I Predicted

As I said, a reporter had the audacity to use the term illegal alien and she was quickly and firmly corrected, “undocumented migrant.”

I barely finished the prediction before it came true.

Now the questions, will anyone else dare cross that line and what awaits yet the woman who made the transgression this time? Will she simply get a warning or will she be pounding the pavement, looking for another position. I am sure she has at least received the warning, do that again and you will be a server in a little restaurant in a little town the rest of your life.

Problems & Solutions

Occasionally, my wife would come to me with a problem. She didn’t like it so much when I would answer, “That’s a problem. I already have more than enough problems. What I need is solutions.”

Invariably, it is the way with most leaders, regardless military or civilian. I did get a kick out of a line in a TV show given to an actor portraying a US president. It was something to the affect, The problems I see are all very difficult. All the easier ones are resolved before they reach my desk.

I should have thought of it on my own but I didn’t. The concept is so simple. Yet I’d guess few of us think about it. We have no reason to.

Well, here’s another thought. I doubt you will find a leader complaining of too many solutions. Generally, if you will, the problem is too many problems. Moreover, they frequently come in bunches.

You just get confronted with one when you learn of two more. Worse, no one has brought any solutions.

So, consider you are a captain in the Marines. You have command of a rifle company, which is under heavy fire. You are in the midst of three critical decisions that must be made quickly. Then, you are confronted with another high priority problem. Someone refuses to use the proper pronoun for another member of the company.

I do admit that it is a little far fetched example. However, the way things are going, it is getting more probable by the month.

My point is, commanding officers already have an abundance of problems. Let’s not hand them even more. Trump has it right by not permitting the multi gender culture to creep into our military.

The most important thing is to keep the most important thing, the most important thing. In the Marines, that’s winning wars very quickly and with minimal casualties. Pronouns don’t even register on that importance indicator. Not even a little.

Migrants?

it’s not law, but it’s the next thing to it. Obviously, the broadcasters that use anything but the the term migrant for the illegal aliens will get a severe wrist slap.

My guess is that no one pulled the term out of thin air. I am sure they tested dozens of terms before study groups. I am just as sure they were not looking for an accurate word to describe them.

Personally, I will stay with illegal alien. By far, it is the most accurate. They are aliens by definition and they arrived here illegally.

Incidentally, if we Americans were to go into another country illegally, they would use their term for illegal alien to refer to us and I’d not blame them.

They did not migrate here. When they took that step across the border, they intentionally broke the law. That makes it illegal, regardless of anything else.

So, maybe we should call them illegal foreigners? At the very least, illegal migraters.

Perhaps Fifty Percent Chance of Being One Hundred Percent Wrong

On Martin Luther King day I watched a show that looked at the the assassination of MLK. I have made remarks about the assassination before. I felt quite alone until this special.

Thing is, two seconds after they had a guilty plea they stopped the investigation. Likely, they even stopped looking before the plea. They didn’t even take the five minutes to test the rifle. I suspect, let me rephrase that. I highly suggest that they didn’t want to face the possibility they were wrong. They had their suspect and they had no desire to uncover any fact that might contradict it.

Now, according to the special, there are others suspicious they got it wrong, including a highly respected judge very familiar with the case. Indeed, it seemed to be moving towards a retrial when Ray died.

So, the truth of the matter is, the real killer might be walking the streets today. As near as I can figure, the chances are about fifty percent that he is. He might even have been drawing a government check at the time. I don’t know. A five minute test might have saved a lot of doubt. Worse, he might have killed others.

On the other hand, the test might have added some confusion. Perhaps that’s why they didn’t test it.

Regardless, it is time to make it illegal to use the death penalty as a threat. As far as I am concerned, it makes it so they have a fifty percent chance of being one hundred percent wrong. When a life sentence is involved, that is not good enough.

Moreover, it encourages the prosecution to be lazy. Even more, I hate to say it, but it might even be a good argument against the death penalty. You take the threat of the death penalty away, and the prosecution will have to work harder and it will cost the state much more.

However, isn’t that the way it’s supposed to work? Aren’t we supposed to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt instead of hold a figurative gun to their heads.

Fauci Might Not be Safe Yet

One might think that now that Fauci has been pardoned, he is safe from prosecution. That just might not be true. The pardon has no affect outside the US.

You take, for instance Italy that was hit particularly hard. Those in Italy might be anxious to get that mass murderer in a courtroom.

If he is wise Fauci might think 2 or 4 times about where he decides to go on vacation. There might be a place or two that took his “experimenting” very seriously. They might even suggest that he visit for a while. They might even promise him a greeting committee.

A Spin on Going Green

While in the Marines, I was stationed in Japan for a while. It was the first place I saw an on demand water heater. I still think the one I had there was better than the one I have now. I don’t know, but I have suspicions it has to do with laws and lawyers. If wrong, please enlighten me.

Another thing I was exposed to was a compact washing machine. I loved it. It had two chambers. One side was the usual agitator. The other side was for spin.

Considering I was without dryer, this was really nifty. After 30 minutes of spinning, the clothes were almost dry. A couple of hours on the line and they were fine. In a pinch, an iron would do fine.

As I said, it was a compact washer, but it was far better than the one I have now. It was faster. It got the clothes cleaner and, as I said, it dried better.

I have been keeping my eye open for one here in the states. I even thought about having someone from my old unit buy one and send it to me.

The thing that puzzles me, why hasn’t some going green outfit decide to import them. Not only do the little things use less power, but, with that spinner, it would not take as much energy to dry the clothes.

Well, of course, they might not sell so well. Their appearance isn’t impressive. Then, too, it does take a few seconds to move the clothes from the agitator to the spinner. However, every time you do it, you can pat yourself on the back for saving all that energy.

Actually, I have a relatively new conventional washer that I am very disappointed with. It likes to walk during the spin cycle. If I could buy one of the little compact washers, I’d buy it in a minute. As for the one I have…. I would gladly give it back to the manufacturer, Whirlpool.
