Das Kapital

Actually, nothing new. It was tried by the Pilgrims and they almost all starved because of it. It was tried in a little town in the Mid-west. The city grew for a short time; then, quickly became abandoned when they discovered some worked while the rest lived off the fruit of the work of the others.

It is the reason real communism, no matter what label it is given never has, and never will work. It is seen as the the solution of everything and it is the destruction of all it touches.

In the case of the Soviet Union, 10 million died and a nation was forced into slavery for decades. The vast populace were forced into labor and the few leaders lived like royalty. They ate the best food and lived in the most opulent environment. In a few words, what the Soviet Union cannot be called communism, though it is akin to the serf system of medieval Europe where the few benefit from the work of many.

Moreover, there was only freedom to those who did as the leaders insisted.

China followed suit. I can’t recall for sure the body count, it seems the me it was around fifty million. In Vietnam, it was just a million or so. It seems to me too many. However, you can check it. Still, is too many, far as I am concerned.

Every time Das Kopitar has been forced on a country, people die, and not just a few. What they teach is communism but what they force on one country after the other is plane and simple empires where just a few are totally in control.

Capitalism is a horrible form of economy. However, it is the best we have ever known since recorded history. Certainly, it has resulted in far less loss of life. Moreover, it doesn’t have to be enforced. It just sort of works all by itself.

The only ones to cause it problems are thieves and crooked politicians, sort of the same.

Matthew 24:6 and ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars

Many sermons have been preached on the passage including these words. Many times, the words have been quoted.

It’s not my intention to preach, just put forward an observation. As near as I can tell, things will unfold more rapidly from beginning to end.

As I look over recent history, I certainly see the wars and rumors of wars. Over the centuries, there have been a lot of them. A person could spend a lifetime doing nothing more than studying wars: what led up to them, the sequence of the war and results.

However, it does seem as if things have picked up some. If you look from 1900 on, there have been wars and rumors almost continually. Even during the time just before WWI threats were quickly building.

While there were no world wars for a while after the 1st war ended, there were skirmishes all over. In addition, no sooner did the first war end things started shaping up for the 2nd. In a little over a decade Hitler already started establishing his empire as did Mussolini. Hirohito was very close behind.

Though it was hoped peace would follow, Korea, Vietnam and revolution in China soon followed. Then the rumors of war came with the Iron curtain and the Bamboo curtain.

Then, suddenly, we marched into Afghanistan and Iraq, twice.

Israel has had it’s own wars. The seven day war, Yom Kippur war, a few skirmishes to the north and south.

And yes. How can a person forget nine-eleven. Maybe not a war but I think it does quality as a rumor of war.

I am sure I left some out.

As I said. Just an observation.

Purchased New 8000 btu window AC

So what? What’s the big deal. I am trying desperately to remember when I bought the last one. It was at least 4 years, maybe 5. The old one still works but needs a good cleaning. I’ll put it out at the curb and someone just might be grateful I did. Somebody will take, clean it up and they have a new AC.

This is not the first time I wrote on air conditioners. I guess the last time was when I put the last one in. That cost just a little more than this one.

The question may very well be, why didn’t I buy a central unit? Well I, at one time did. However, every year I paid a minimum of a thousand dollars to repair it every year.

So, I asked my question. What costs more? Fix my AC every year for for a grand or replace a window unit for a few hundred every 4 or 5 years for 350.

Now my math skills might not be the equivalent of Einstein’s but I elected to just buy window units and let those HVAC repair guys go hungry. And guess what? No installation costs. I put the thing in the window and plugged it in all by my lonesome while my wife watched.

Again, I am not brilliant, but I suspect one day, someone will get the idea of having 2 hoses hooked up to a home and hook the other ends of the hoses to something similar to a window unit AC. That way, most of the noise is outside and there need not be a box hanging from the window.

There is another upside. After 4 or 5 years, you decide to replace the outside unit, you buy one, pull the old one and put the new one in. No need lift the old one out and the new one in. Faster, simpler, easier. Who knows? It might even be less costly.

Well maybe that is the reason it will never happen. People love selling stuff the can charge lots of money for.

Afterthought… A central unit breaks, that’s another grand for the repair. I have never had a window unit break. If it does, I replace it for about 400. I prefer the window unit math.

Shelby County Clerk, Wanda Halbert Asks for Raise for County Clerk Personnel

Of course. For doing such a great job!

Actually, I should not be so hard on the personnel when the chief problem is the chief.

Incidentally, for those outside the mid-south area and don’t know, Halbert has the primary prerequisite. She’s a avid democrat. She might not know a thing about running a county clerk office, she may not have any desire to do even an adequate job. However, she did know how to campaign for the job and she clearly knows how to ask for wages.

Well, I guess she does also know how to how to hold onto a job. Anyone else would have been fired already.

Better Early Than Late?

On the news, I noticed they are finally starting to arrest some of the demonstrators. I wonder, if they had started much sooner, it might have had more affect. Maybe they don’t have enough jail cells now. Moreover, it’s going to cost a bundle to feed them all.

And, by the way, some of those characters might welcome the room & board. They might not have had anything to eat for a while.

Another Meeting by Mayor Paul

This time he is meeting with folks at and about Orange Mound. This time it might actually do some good. If it does or not, at least he’ll show he cares.

Regardless, it is possible someone in the meeting will say something intelligent. I wouldn’t count on that being the mayor. The real trick is, if some really good idea is presented, will the current mayor of Memphis be bright enough to recognize it?

Old Joe Speaks With Forked Tongue

Joe says he is for democracy while he also provides support for Palestinians. Palestinians actively fight against democracy while Israel is a working democracy.

Old Joe says the one thing while he supports those who fight against a democracy.

It is easy to see why. Old Joe figures he needs the Palestinian (anti democratic) vote.
