Just a Bowl of Stew

Generally, I don’t ask my readers to read something else before reading my post, but in this case, it might help your understanding of what I am writing. Gen. 25:29-34 is the story of Esau and how he sold his birthright for a bowl of stew. I must admit, though I thought I understood this passage, I came up far short. I mean, it was just a bowl of stew and it was just a birthright.

To understand, a person needs to understand what a birthright is. I must admit that I do not fully understand it. This much, I do know. It was passed on from father to son, usually to the older one. In this case, Esau is the oldest. Yet God said that it would go to the younger one, Jacob. In this account, Esau relinquishes his birthright, thinking he is on the brink of dying. Even so, I don’t think his mother would have let him die of starvation. However, you know how it is. When a person just has to have something, he just has to have it.

Then, the birthright passed not Esau, but Jacob. This brings up the question. What is the big deal? What is so important about this birthright? I don’t know. I have heard preachers speak on it and I am sure they know more than I do. However, I have come to the conclusion it doesn’t matter. I mean it did to Esau and Jacob, but not to us. The thing that is most so important about it is that it was most important, no matter what it was or is.

So it was that Esau gave up something very important. Maybe not on that day, week or year. However, in the long run, because he gave up that birthright for the stew, he did casually give up something important to him and his descendants. You see, if he had received the birthright, he could have passed it to his son and his son and on and on.

Let’s put the story aside for a while. We as humans frequently make short term and long term decisions. I have heard, and it is probably true that John Rockefeller gave 1/10 of what he made to the church and 1/10 he set aside in savings, though he couldn’t really afford it. Many suggest this is likely why he became a millionaire. I don’t know. However, when everyone else was spending every penny they made; or even going in to debt, Rockefeller kept building savings, which he was later able to invest.

I guess one could say that he made the choice to turn down the bowl of stew for the long term benefit. I wish I could say I did the same, however, anyone that knows me knows I am not a millionaire. I am basically living off Social Security.

Does everyone that saves 10% and gives 10% become a millionaire? I doubt it. I would guess most do very well. On the other side, it is pretty difficult for someone who does not save his money to become rich. It is common sense.

Back to the bowl of stew. Well, let’s look at a decision I made. I went out and bought a 40 thousand dollar car. I was driving a 12 year-old car that was beginning to have serious problems. Buying another car, perhaps a year or two years old, would have been the far better thing to do. However, when I got behind the wheel of that Nissan, that bowl of stew looked mighty appetizing.

Shame on me. I made a bad decision. I should not have done it. I looked only at the short term and went into debt. I wish I could say that was the only bad decision I made. I made many others that had nothing to do with finance or money and I suffered for it. For sure I should have ignored that bowl of stew, but I didn’t and it was not long that I realized it was entirely the wrong thing.

You see, I can tell people what is the wise and good to ignore that wonderful smelling stew. However, it would seem no one pays any attention to me, as I did not pay attention to those before me who warned me.

You see, it’s not so much what a birthright is, but that it is important. And we should not take it so lightly. Now, in case you want to know, I have paid 800 a month for the last year and I will pay 800 a month for the next six years.

Remember, before you leap, take a good look. It might help even if you won’t listen to us old fogies in other ways.

Did You Ever Notice There is Always a Chase

I don’t know if you ever noticed it, but I did. The police shows always have a chase scene. Even when the police completely surround the bad guy, he always makes a break for it and the chase scene runs for 2 or 3 minutes.

It does make me wonder. Just how many times do the police really end up in a foot race. They can’t shoot them because the law won’t permit them to shoot just anyone on the run. Indeed, many of those that they chase might not even be guilty.

I decided on an idea to give the police an advantage over the ones they are chasing. A motorized electric skate board or scooter. The things can go up to 30 mph, maybe more for short spurts. This is likely nearly twice the speed of the culprit. Not only is there a better chance of catching them, but, once they see they have the advantage, they’ll just give it up.

That would work out better for the policeman, as well as the one trying to get away. I mean, after all, they will not have to run so long to realize that he’s not going to get away.

On the other hand, let’s not tell the crooks. We don’t want them getting any ideas.

School Shootings

When the people do turn their backs on God, then the shooting do become a fact of life.

When life becomes cheap, then murder becomes the norm.

When homes become the place where children are taught that humans are simply more advanced forms of animals, it is what will always happen.

Never believe the dems after a shooting like this. They lie and their only interest is to take advantage of it.

Never believe the dems, period. They lie. To them, it is the right thing to do.

It is an expensive lesson we have learned, to turn our backs on God. We have learned it, right? If we haven’t learned it, we will suffer more dead. If we have not learned it, we will suffer the death of more children. If we have not learned it, the death of the unborn will only continue. Indeed, it will get worse. It is the inevitable result of cheapening of life.

I do not know. I had no access to the info. However, I would suspect that none of those who killed in mass shootings, school or not were true believing Christians. Some, we know were not. We know some were Muslims. We know some were not believing Christians. I wish when there are shootings like this, someone would make a recording of whether or not the shooter were true Christian.

For that matter, it makes me wonder how many abortionists are Christians. Maybe I can get someone to help me perform some research on it.

Now some might say that Old Joe was Catholic and he is in favor of abortions. I reply, just because he is Catholic, that does not mean he is Christian. To me, he has proved he is not Christian. He lies. takes bribes and ruins the lives of real Christians. I know. I actually saw him do it.

Kamala is not Christian. In truth, I doubt she ever claimed to be. I never heard her say anything to the affect. Kamala & Old Joe, regardless of their beliefs, have turned their backs on God and have bowed and worshiped at the book of communism. They have bought the idea of evolution, which gives no special preference to humans.

The deaths of these kids and the teachers in this school all started with the teaching of Marx and Darwin. The deaths will not stop until we turn from their teachings and to God. Those that follow Jesus love life, not death. For Jesus loves life. It is the devil who loves death and killing. It is Satan that loves the lie and deceit.

Relevancy and the Darkside

I refuse to use her name. Now I refuse to use her father’s name. They are both worse than rinos. They have decided to join the dark side. She was a bright and rising star. For her own special purposes, she came out against Trump, and now her father. She was a so-called conservative repetitive. Then she decided to openly go after Trump with her new dem friends. Now she is now longer a representative and she is no longer relevant.

One thing they both overlook, when they joined the dark side, they have become irrelevant. They will not be recognized by the right or the left. No, they will soon be insignificant. Soon, as with me, no one will speak their name.

Me Thinks It Would Confuse the Woman

A thought occurred to me. When someone uses a gun to kill in a school, Kamala instantly blames the guns. When an illegal alien kills people, she ignores it… that is, she says nothing.

Now, just what might happen if a 14-year-old kills four people in a school with using a knife?

It could happen. In fact I am reluctant to bring it up because of what might happen if the wrong person reads this.

So. Does she blame the knife or does she simply ignore it because A. it’s not a gun and B. it’s an illegal alien. I don’t know. I wouldn’t hazard a guess. It just is… I am trying to point out her bias.

Depends On the Weather

I really want to walk 2 miles a day; however, when it is hot, I just can’t handle it. Cold is uncomfortable, but with two coats and two pairs of trousers, I can deal with it. Nonetheless, I get all the exercise nowadays working on my backyard. During the pandemic I came down with the virus and did nothing for a while. The backyard had bushes that grew to four to five feet. I’m still working on them. This of course while hauling a fallen tree little by little and all the other little stuff.

At 76, I work 15 to 20 minutes and then come back into my easy chair, drink cold water and cool off next to my 8000 btu air conditioner. That generally takes about half an hour.

One of these days, I will get back to just walking.

It’s Not Easy

If there is one thing I learned about people is that they love to complain, especially when they have nothing to complain about. I guess I first started becoming aware to it when I read about the Hebrews complaining about the manna.

As I read, I thought, such foolishness. All the food you want. All you need do is pick it up and eat it. You don’t even have to cook it. Then of course the Hebrews complained. They were getting bored with it. They wanted more of a variety in their diet. Besides, they wanted meat, don’t you see.

My thought was that I would have never been so foolish. However, time has given me wisdom. Looking back on my life, I realize I am a first class complainer too. I really do complain. I am never as grateful as I ought to be. God has given me much that I know of and very much I am not aware of.

I guess the marines taught me a lot about being thankless. No. I’m not speaking of the organization. I’m talking about the jar heads themselves. It seems there wasn’t a day that went by that I heard complaining in the ranks. I have even heard that it means morale is good. If no one is muttering, it means that the morale is low. I cannot confirm or deny that. None the less, if it is true that I was always in outfits with good morale and lots of complaining.

I am sure you are wondering just why I bring this up. As I was flipping through the channels, some woman (I am sure an expert on something, I know not what) was complaining it is not easy to buy a house.

I had to stay on the channel for a while. I couldn’t believe my ears.

I am always open to comments. However, especially in this case. Does anyone know any reason why homes should be easy to buy. Maybe I have this all wrong. Perhaps I am supposed to just sit somewhere and someone will come along and give me a nice 3 bedroom home. Is that the way it’s suppose to work?

I mean, I always thought it was something we were suppose to work for. No one handed my house to me. I guess I did it wrong. Well, let’s face it, maybe the illegal aliens have it right. Maybe I should go down into Mexico and swim across the Rio Grande and turn myself over to a border agent. Maybe that would be the right and correct way to do it. I paid nearly $30,000 for Obama care. The illegal aliens step across the border and they don’t pay a cent for hospitalization or insurance. They get five star room and board and free free transportation.

I guess I did it all wrong. I paid for food and shelter for all four of us and I paid for college for two. By the time it was done, I had a whopper of a set of credit card bills to pay.

But then, in truth, I did have it easy. I didn’t have to clear a forested area and build a log cabin. I just went into debt. We didn’t have to build our own house made from mud and straw. All I did was put my signature on a sheet of paper.

Then, of course, there are those who do acquire real estate easily. They show those commercials on TV all day and night. The crooks get a quick deed and take your house right out from under you. Apparently, the only way to stop it is to catch them in the act. I guess it can happen to anyone. Someone just almost got away with stealing the Graceland mansion. Just where are the law makers to stop that sort of thing? Really!

Some woman almost got away with it. She just almost got a really big and famous house the easy way.

Please send me the comments, hundreds, thousands of them to tell me where I went wrong.

Well look at me. I am complaining aren’t I? Complaining about complaining.

Can’t Say for Sure

Those of you who have followed me even a little know I have given up TV other than for news. I still have it on for my wife. Still, I am going through advertising anger. Some of these so called news programs nowadays are 60% advertising… advertising their own news programs. Worse, they are getting monotonous showing the same lame ads repeatedly. It’s their station. They can run their stations the way they want to. I just see no future in it, for either of us.

I have stumbled across some videos lately on the internet that have really surprised me. Such as, I have found full productions of “The Pirates of Penzance.” I have since watched two of them. I would guess there are many other such programs for us who like such things. It will just take a little searching. I enjoyed it far more than the programing the networks are trying to force on us these days.

I have also found other, shorter videos. There is one where a woman man used PVC pipes and plastic wrap to make a pretty good boat. Then she got an oar and rowed away. I saw a couple of men dig out a small house out of the ground in a couple of days. I saw a man build a small RC powered by air compressed in two 2 liter bottles.

Maybe most would not be entertained by such things, but I do find it fascinating to see what people can do with little more than a little imagination.

I have also found alternate sources for news. I know that it is not reliable. How-some-ever, neither is the news that comes from the newspapers, TV or radio. Moreover, most of what they put on the TV these days, isn’t news. Well, maybe it is for movie buffs. Maybe it is for those who don’t believe the sun will rise if they don’t find out what sports team won or lost. They must find out who hit home runs or scored TDs

I do have little more than a passing interest in such things. However, I do have a firm belief that none of it is truly as important as the real news. You know, who does what. Who says what. What laws might be passed and why. When I see the news on TV, it makes me realize just why so few people actually know what is happening in this world today. There was a time when people hungered for news. Maybe not so much anymore.

As near as I can tell, most of those programs that call themselves news, is, maybe 5 minutes news in a half hour program. As near as I can tell, the biggest favor I can do for them is to stop watching them. Maybe, when they discover folks aren’t watching, they just might change their ways. However, I have learned to hold out little hope. Their purpose is to make money for their corporation, not bring me the news.

Some time during the night, I will see or hear something that prompt me to write. I live under this really strange concept that if I keep plugging away, I can change a few minds. Then, in turn they too will will spread the word.

Occasionally, I will get an idea that I have a new way to present the plan of salvation. Perhaps it will be a way that will make it clearer. On the other hand, I just might get the interest of a man or woman. Then, by the power of God, one or two more people will go to heaven, instead of hell. I cannot pretend to be a big evangelist, but I do as I can and when I can. No decision is more permanent or more important. I mean, as the Word says, It is appointed for man once to die. Then comes the judgement.

Besides all that, I just like to write. That is odd, you know. I really don’t enjoy reading that much.

When I first got out of the Marines, things were really tuff for us for a while. We had no TV. I think I did more reading in that 6 months than I ever did or ever will. I did not sit and read. We had no furniture, none.
