Never Own Anything You Can’t Carry on Your Back

One of the things my marine drill instructor said, “Never own anything you can’t carry on your back.” It might not be the best or most important thing to remember, but it is certainly worth a thought or two. It is interesting what all a person can collect during my 76 years. Most of it I don’t need. Much of it, I forgot I have. To be sure, at the time I acquired them, I must have needed them, or at least I thought I did.

Now my house is cluttered. I have a storage room full. And my attic is full. I have just about reached a point I can’t buy anything else unless I get rid of something. Actually, I have gotten rid of a lot. I get a stack and I throw away two things and keep one. And, somehow, my stack of things I will keep is bigger than the original stack. Now how in the world does that happen?

To be sure, to limit my possessions to that which I am able to carry is maybe a little too restrictive, but it is a good guide line. I think there is a lot to be said for those who live out of a travel trailer. That way, it is sort of self restricting. Even now as I sit here, I have from time-to-time considered selling the house and buy a trailer. The problem there is… how do I get rid of all the stuff, which I don’t really need.

Let me throw this one on for an extra. There was a mantra we were required to repeat a dozen or so times every day while I was in boot camp. “The road to hell is paved by the bleached bones of marines who did not plan ahead.” I don’t know about you, but I think there is some true wisdom in there, even if you were never a marine. I have found things never go as well when I lack the planning.

Is That Anything Like a Cinnamon Roll?

I was listening to an interview of Kamala’s husband. Naturally, he dodges questions pretty good too. I am sure both of them, if you ask them their favorite color, without hesitation they would reply plaid.

At any rate, the interviewer decided to close out one subject and go on to the next. He said, “Now concerning gender rolls,…

You will have to pardon me. Honest. The first thing that came to my mind was “Is that anything like a cinnamon roll?”

Okay. It was dumb. I am sure you’ll agree it was dumb. However, I am convinced it is far better than the answers they came up with. Besides, a little humor is good for all of us.

Two of the Meanest Things We Can Do to Our Children!

First and foremost, if we let our children grow up without knowing the Jesus and the plan of salvation. What a horrid thing we will see one day if we find out one day that we failed them and they will never be in heaven with us. If we never teach them another thing, we need to introduce them to the Savior early and frequently. They need to have an excellent example and they need to learn the Bible as early as they can read and maybe a little sooner.

That actually leads us into the second. Turning our children over to schools that won’t teach. It is especially important that they be taught to read. Note, I didn’t say, learn how to read. Reading is a skill that needs to be practiced regularly as well as just learned.

To be sure, writing, math, science and history are very important too. But, you see, it all hinges on reading. It is far more important than ever before as even a mechanic has to know how to read.

And yet, we think we have done what we should when each day we turn our children over to glorified babysitters. Both of my sons were reading in the first grade, and actually pretty well. There is absolutely no reason that by the time a child finishes kindergarten should have any less than a 300 to 400 reading vocabulary. They need to read some each day. I should have had them read to me while I listened. Better for them. Better for me. It will help them feel better about themselves and it would have given me an idea of their progress. Almost as important, it would give us some time together.

At this time in their life, their little brains are start forming based on what they do. They might indeed just hate it, but it is very important. If they learn how to read early, they will learn how to write. Learning history is very important. And, of course, you learn history by reading. Science is important. And science is learned by reading.

Math and algebra. Well, that is a different story for a different post. However, that is important too. It too should be practiced and practiced. With practice comes accuracy and speed.

Getting back to the point. Our schools are run by the government, not by teachers. Our teachers belong to unions whose interest is not the students. They just want to make sure the teachers have jobs and that they are well paid. For some reason, they seem to have more control of the schools than the parents or even the government. Who came up with the idea of doing things that way?

And by the way, when it is suggested we go to private schools, who are the first ones to complain? The democrats and the education unions. Which by the way, are the two most guilty of the poor education our children receive.

My conclusion. Get the government and the unions out of our schools and we might have a good education system. Letting the government and unions teach our children is a horrid thing, start to finish.

The Kamala Campaign

The campaign being run by Kamala can best be described as a mirage. It all looks real good but there’s no substance to it. She has not said anything she will do. At least to some degree, she has admitted that there are problems. Even at that, I don’t think she has a clue how bad those problems are.

I don’t think she has gone shopping since becoming vice president. I have to wonder if anyone has told her how badly the prices have gone up since Old Joe took over. I don’t think she has an idea of just how complex the Middle East is. Even at that, you ask her what she will do, she won’t provide an answer but say she knows the problems are bad and then go off on some tangent.

Nonetheless, you really want to find out what she thinks, forget it. She knows if she were to be honest with us, it would utterly destroy any remaining hopes she has to be elected. She thinks it is as poker. We aren’t supposed to know what cards she is holding… or what her thoughts might be.

It Was an AK-47

The rifle found on the would-be assassin was reported to be an AK-47 ; not an AR-15, as some have said. There is a world of difference between the two. Other than to say that it has a much longer range and it is far more lethal, I’ll let you just look it up. Better so you don’t have to take my word for it. Well, I will say this. If I had to go into battle, I would much rather carry the AK-47 than an AR-15. If a person is hit by an AK-47, he is much more likely to go down and stay down.

What I would really like to zero in on are two things. First, the man was a felon. By law, he was not permitted much over a sling shot. The law did not prevent the criminal from getting the rifle. In general, the law does not prevent any criminal from getting guns. Laws only prevent the law abiding from gaining weapons.

I sincerely would like to know where the weapon came from. We can’t find out, unless he tells us. There was no serial number. It was removed. Whereas, in some cases, they can raise the serial number, it is not always successful. However, even if they do get the number, good luck on chasing it down, especially if it was reported stolen 2 years ago.

From what I understand, he was from Hawaii. I don’t think he brought the weapon with him. He had to have acquired it after arrival, in a strange area surrounded by strange people. I am sure he could not just walk up the guy on the corner and ask, “Do you happen to know where I can buy an AK-47 with a scope?”

Well. I do have my own personal opinion. I won’t be specific with evidence, but I would guess the person he got the gun from had a “D” after his name. I mean I don’t know but it only seems logical.

Another thing that has caught my attention, where did they get these Secret Service agents? The man had laid in place for, what 12 hours. It is a good thing the man is not much of a sniper. Had he really known how to hide in the bushes, no one would have ever spotted him until it was too late. The agent said that the only reason he saw him was because of the barrel of the gun. Had the man hidden the barrel, it could have turned out much worse.

I guess in order for Pres. Trump to go golfing any more, they will have to have him do it from within a bullet proof booth. I suppose they could put one on wheels.

The Contested Medal

The news has posted a story about sports. Nothing new there. They have more sports than news. Yet, this one caught my interest, though I rarely pay attention to sports. In this case, the woman is contesting a medal that she won during the Olympics. The way I figure it is as I stated it. Apparently the woman actually won the contest. If I were to find out I had not won a medal, I would not try to hold onto it. If I had the physical medal, it would not be of much value to me if I knew the other really won it.

I don’t know if it is even possible to relinquish ownership of the medal. However, it would speak volumes to give up that which I did not truly win. It also speaks volumes of the one unwilling to give it up, doesn’t it.

On the other side of the coin, so to speak, if the officials were wrong, why is it that they can’t simply admit it? It all the more makes me look forward to computerized umpires in the major league. Sports, all sports would be a lot more fun, more enjoyable without the officiating.

Whistles

The Dog Whistle?

I don’t know exactly when they started using the term but it would seem that it was used far more commonly by the dems. I don’t know exactly know what is meant by it, other than that what I have extracted from context.

Well, actually, I do know what a dog whistle is. I learned about them while in junior high, which was a while or two ago. Truth be told, there are two types. One is cylindrical and when you blow on it, only the dogs, and I guess other animals, can hear it. I suppose they can be used for training but mostly it is used for beckoning. When the owner blows on it, the dog comes running.

The other has something of a flat shape to it, almost with the appearance of a small shape of a bird. The sound it makes can be heard by most everyone and is almost totally used for training, especially for herding dogs.

Then too, I have seen people use noting more than their thumb and forefinger and it works just as good, maybe a little better as the dog gets used the his owners pitch.

The whistling saves a lot of yelling. The shepherd can tell the dog what to do from, easily a quarter mile away. One shepherd and a couple of dogs can control hundreds of sheep this way. And guess what? The dogs love it. Border collies, German shepherds, and many other dogs love the work. I have heard some say that it is cruel to expose a border collie to sheep and then never let them work. It is akin to torture. Don’t know. Just been told.

If you have never had the chance to see a shepherd work with his dog(s), you might take a few minutes to watch it once, maybe three times. If you see it enough, you might even decide to take it up. If you do, you will make a dog very happy. If you keep your eyes open, occasionally, you will see a competition advertised. Bring your camera.

So, getting back to what the dems mean by a dog whistle. I would guess this refers to how the controllers in the democrat party control their people. It does seem a bad way to refer to people, as dogs. They can’t possibly be referring to the leadership in the Republican party as using dog whistles. First, they don’t try to use whistles to control the members of the party. Second, it wouldn’t work. The republicans are not mindless robots as are the dems. They actually have minds of their own and do what they believe to be right. From time to time it is a problem. We simply refuse to march in lockstep as the dems do so it does become a problem from time to time to get a good bill passed.

On the other hand, the dems have no problem passing one of their bad bills. All they need to do is use a little threat, a little enticement and they will all fall into the place they are assigned. Anyone that doesn’t, will not ever be in the good graces of the dems again, which means they will never again receive any of that lovely campaign money. Moreover, they will likely get primaried the election.

So, I would say, if anyone is familiar with the use of dog whistles, it would be the dems. Then, I don’t need to tell you. I don’t need to convince you. All you need do is keep your eyes open.

One thing I do know. I do not answer to dog whistles. I would hope you don’t either. I mean, God did give you a mind with which to think.

Oddly, a Good Word for McDonald’s

Okay. I’ve sworn off Micky D’s. Everyone knows it. I really don’t like the place. I have written many posts on the poor service. So. When they do good, I do feel obligated to say something. Perhaps someone saw me come in and said that I better get some good service. (Just kidding. They don’t know me.)

At any rate, the wife and I were on the way to the range a few days ago and we decided to stop in and get some breakfast. And… guess what. We did get some breakfast… before I was able to get my Diet Coke. That is fast. And, by the way, it was good and it was hot. So, from me, an honest thanks for cooking for me and doing so well.

While on the subject, that evening, we went to the Huey’s in Southaven. I have never been disappointed with any aspect of that place. It is always clean, fast and the best shrimp and fries I had anywhere. My wife had the steak on a stick and, of course, I had to have the shrimp. I don’t know how they did it, but they had our dinner to us in about 4 minutes. …and the shrimp and fries were so hot I had to dip them to keep from burning my tongue.

The truth of the matter is, they truly know the way to do good food… fast. In today’s world, that is especially good.

Unfortunately, it won’t matter to most of those reading my posts. Most do not reside in Southaven. Many do not live in the US. Still, I guess it won’t hurt to say something. Who knows, one day, someone will visit Southaven from some distant place and they will want some good hot shrimp… fast.

Oddly, Some People Believe It

It’s the guns

It’s the guns

It’s the guns

We have to eliminate all guns every time someone gets shot.

It’s the target. it’s the target as soon as they start shooting at Pres. Trump.

Strange as that might seem, as crazy as that sounds, some people believe that line of reasoning, which is promoted by the dems.

It would seem, according to the dems, it is a matter of just whom the target might be. My guess is that if someone started shooting at me, it would be my fault as well.

Was the thought of shooting at Trump originated with the dems? I guess not. On the other hand, much of what they say, encourages it. There have been physical assaults on many republicans and the dems have made it clear it is okay with them, though they might pretend otherwise. They even encourage it in their speeches. Remember, Sen. Rand Paul was assaulted by his neighbor while mowing his lawn and again while walking along the the roads of D.C. Remember those that would have assaulted the Supreme Court justices if they could have. This, of course, while the Justice Department refused them protection. I guess the justices, too are at fault for the attempted assaults on them.

It’s not because of a warped since of justice, though as it would seem so. It just is that some will believe anything the dems say. After all, the dems, the media, and the social media have all spread the word, the orange man is Hitler. How much better would be the world without Hitler. So, by way of twisted reasoning, the dems are saying the world would be better off without the orange man. Hence, by the twisted logic, if someone killed Trump, the would would be far better off. Those that have tried might even be looking at themselves as heroes. On the other hand, there are dems that would agree with them,
