Preverbial Rock & Hard Place

Almost from the instant Old Joe took over, Putin has put us in the place where we can’t do the one thing and we can’t do the other. It is an odd switch of roles, with Republicans wanting to stay out of Ukraine and the Democrats are ready to roll up the sleaves and dive in. They are using, under a different name, the old domino theory advanced during the cold war.

The simple solution, it seems, everyone wants to ignore. If we drive the price of oil down to $20 a barrel, it quickly solves the problem of Russia and Ukraine. In weeks, Putin would be out of money. More important, it would go a long way toward helping our economy, Iran and maybe even China. At this point, however, Trump and I seem to be the only two on this earth aware of it.

Maybe that isn’t quite true. Most certainly, Putin is well aware of it too.

Nonetheless, here we are. What can we do that we are willing to do? If we continue to provide arms to Ukraine, we will most certainlly draw down on our readyness. On the other hand, they are holding Russia at bey and costing Putin blood, approval and treasure.

So… do we pull out and let the dominos fall or do we try to let the Ukranians deal with our worst enemy since WWII?

Well, I have spent a lot of time thinking about it. I guess I must to some degree, go against my Republicans. We are losing a great deal of money on ammunition. However, it is putin who is losing blood & treasure.

It is now a little less than a year until President Trump is again President Trump. My guess is that within a couple of months, the price of oil will plumit to $20 and Putin just might be looking for another job.

And if Trump does not return to the White House…? Well at least at my age, I won’t see much more. At 76, I can’t imagine being around much longer.

Hint for Shelby County

My guess is that the current clerk will soon be fired or should be.

Whether soon or later, when selecting the next county clerk, make sure he or she can do basic math, you know add, subtract, multiply and divide. Maybe basic bookkeeping skills might come in handy too.

What in the world is going on with that woman who is the current clerk? Anyone have a clue yet?

The Charge of the Light Brigade

I have done a great deal of reading on it and the Crimean War. It would be senseless for me to write all that much about it. A great deal has been written about it already and it’s easy to find. To be sure, it is a wise man that will study it. More accurately, the person that does read it will come away far wiser.

However, perhaps the best way I heard it summed up, “it was mistake from beginning to end.” And it was. The Charge of the Light Brigade was brave but exeedingly dumb. The stupidity even amazed the Russian leaders.

There were however a few good things to come out of it. One of them was the training of British officers. Until then officers bought their commissions and many had little idea about how to lead an army.

Of course, some folks didn’t learn. They would rather promote those who know not how to lead, because they are the right gender, race or they are homosexual. Guess what. Many private companies are doing it to.

Old Joe tossed thousands of good officers from the services. Why? Because they refused to take an experimental shot. That cost our armed forces readiness.

Tis madness. Do you suppose we should require the poem, “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” to be read by all presidents, and American officers. It woke the eyes of the Brits. It might wake them too, but I have little hope.

Maybe if is reqired reading for American 8th graders, it might help. I’m sure it would acomplish more good before the major part of the damage is done by American public systems.

A New Word on EVs

Actually not all that new. Caught it on the news yesturday. An extra fee of $100 / yr on EVs to replace taxes not paid on gas. This would be doubled in 3 years.

Actually, I do understand, I do. Those taxes collected on gas are to build and maintain roads and highways. Those of us currently driving EVs get to drive on the byways free.

There are a couple of quibbles with it though. I have had my Nissan for about 4 months and I have but 2000 miles on it. I am retired. If I had continued driving my old car, I don’t think I would have paid that much in road tax in a year.

Moreover, much of what is collected in taxes with gas does not all go for roads. Some goes to airports, buses and other special projects. It’s kinda like that lottery they started in NY strictly for education, which now is used for everything but education. Now they again have their hands out so they can run and maintain their schools.

At one time, someone suggested a surcharge based on odometer each year, fast and easily collected with car tags. Hopefully, we can count on our government to use the tax money efficiently. Then too, I have hopes of living to 120.

S. O. P. of Course

Sell swim suits all winter.

Sell coats all summer.

Must work good that way. Walmart’s making a ton of money. I guess other stores do too.

My question, what does one do if they are in dire need of a coat in winter, as me right now. What do I do if I would really like to take a dip in the summer as is customary.

I do get it. To make a profit, they do need to order ahead, or is it behind. At any rate, would it be agin the law stock a few things in phase with the seasons for those of us who purchase clothes when we need them instead of 6 months after.

In a Small Sense, I guess

I know that light I’m aproaching will turn red before I get there. It’s difficult to deny years of experiece. You know. When that big 4×4 pickup next to me starts begins forcing his way in front of me, it never surprises me.

When I was in the Marines and a bad rumor circulates, I know it is true. On the other hand, I was never surprised when the good rumors never came true.

As far as believing in fate or destiny as a thing or force, nope. There is certainly no destiny that has a face or persnality. To be sure, when a certain set of cercumstances fall in place, it would only stand to reason something generally follows.

I have a saying, when I drop something, I am apt to say, gravity worked again. It would certainly surprise me if the object remained in mid-air.

I do believe God does exist and that He does take a personal interest in all of us, in me and this world. He is not fate or destiny. However, from the formation of the earth, He knew me. He knew every decision I would ever make. Whenever and wherever He chooses, He intervenes.

For instance, in the case of that obiect I drop, He knew I would drop it. If He chose he could stop me from droping it. Generally, He does not interfere with gravity but he can. In fact He has.

From time to time, I wish He would intervene in that man’s plans to pull over in my lane. On the other hand He just might have a lesson for me. It still gives my wife a fright when he tries to make his big pickup occupy the same space as my car.

If such a thing happened, it would be bad driving, not fate, not destiny.

As a side note, I do like the musical, “Kismet” which is, I think Arab for fate. Just cause I like the show, doesn’t mean I believe in it. Mostly I like the music. I did from the first I heard it. I especially enjoy the song Stranger in Paradise. I’ll never tire of it.

You Say You Could Use a New Roof

I could use one. It has been while.

Well, in this case, the roofing team was sent to the wrong address in OK, OK. When the crew realized the error, they had already removed the roof.

What else could they do. There’s just no way to put the shingles back the way they were. So, now, due to the mistake, the owners of the wrong home have a brand new roof. From what they said in the story, they really liked it too.

Now just why can’t things like that happen to me.

It does remind me of something that didn’t work out so well. A family returned from vacation to find their house missing. Yep, that’s right. The house movers had the wrong street. I can’t remember how that one turned out.

I would love to have my roof replaced. Having my house moved might cause problems, depending on where they put it. I might like the new location.

What Do They Want, Please Say It Aloud.

A while ago, the call was for less police, less putting people in jail, and of course less bail. Now, I see on TV, they are calling to get the hooligans off the road that are doing doughnuts in the road.

They are also complaining about the car thievery. Some are having the nerve to complain about the thievery and destruction in the stores.

I thought it was clear that when you decreased policing; when you threaten police when they do their job, it was precisely what you were begging for.

So what do the people of Memphis want now. Honest, you got exactly what you voted for. The dems promised to defund the police and they did. They promised to do away with bail and they did. The dems promised to protect you from the police and they are. You voted for them and you got exactly what you voted for.

Now, if you have changed your mind, guess what. It is going to take a while. those dems will not give up their power willingly. They will even pretend they, too, want a reversal of polocies.

Don’t believe them. vote them out first chance you get. If you let them maintain their control, they will let the criminals loose, just as they already did.

If you want law & order and you don’t replace those dems next election, it’s best you leave and quickly. Those who delay the most will be the ones who will have a tough time selling their real estate and businesses. Also, they just might be the ones who will have a hard time getting that U-Haul. or pro movers.

For my brief aside, the same could be accurately said about NY, NY. Those folks up there are stuck on dem so hard, even if it meant burning down the city, they’d still vote dem.

Time for an Auction

Heard something on the radio I was unable confirm. Sorry. However, in my search, I came across something few talk or write about.

As near as I can tell, there are many yachts taken to sanction Russian wealthy people. At least one is in San Diego Harbor. Wonder who is taking care of it. Wonder who is paying for the slip and security. Slips for 350 foot yachts are not cheap.

Apparently, it is far from being alone. For a former communist country, for a relatively poor country, they sure seem to have a lot of very wealthy people.

Moreover, they seem to be having many foriegn tax payers pay, perhaps collectively billions to tend their big boats.

That is not right. Maybe it is time to hold a big auction.

Somehow, I don’t think that will happen. Those wealthy people have power and I’m sure it extends outside the Russian borders and inside ours. If you don’t believe me, watch what happens if we got serious with the idea.

As near as I can tell, they are benefitting from the sanctions. Though they might temporarily lose the use of the yachts, they still own them and we take care of them in the meantime.

As long as we are throwing away money, maybe they can toss a grand or two my way. I wouldn’t mind.
