I thought about it and In the last few days confirmed it. Comfort costs. When I have the automatic climate control on, I ride in comfort but it cost me, depending on the outdoor temperature.
While I need heat or cooling, I get about 3 miles per KW hour. The weather has been nice lately so I turned the climate control off. I made one short trip and the car’s computer posted 5.1 miles per KW Hour. It did surprise me a little. It is the highest report I had. If I can keep that up, this car will save me some real money.
To be sure, the reports do still vary up to a mile, but obviously, it does cost to stay warm. Actually, it cost to stay warm at home too. However, in internal combustion cars, the heat is free, though we do have to wait a minute or two for it.
Bear in mind, also, most of my trips are 5 miles or less. I am sure the m/kw hour goes up for longer trips as it takes less power to maintain the warmth than to overcome the initial cold.
Also, it depends how the cooperation with traffic lights and how many Memphis drivers make me slam on the brakes.
